Great work Samy, dunno how you do it (put things like this on youtube) I only hope B&B get their fingers out and give us an official backing tracks album of ABBA songs like these. wouldn't that be cool?

OMG! The chorus of Lovers (Live A Little Longer) is CRAZY!!!!!

Re: ABBA Oops Videos

valgar - 15.01.2008, 06:35

I have to admit it certainly sounds different than what I am used to, Not sure how to take it, it's so different to my ears. I keep expecting to hear one thing but instead hear something else. One thing about it is that you are light years beyond anything I can do on the computer Samy and that is a marvelous thing

Fire&Ice - 15.01.2008, 11:49

Chris, with OOPS effect you are able to hear backing vocals and the backing tracks . Basically vocals are removed there.

I've oopsed plenty of songs as well and I sometimes put a cd and listen to these songs. It is amazing what you can hear there!

Great work Samy, though I must admit I haven't listened to your links because I've already done that many times on my stereo.

Re: ABBA Oops Videos

valgar - 15.01.2008, 21:32

Ivana, I've listened to Samys links several times now and can't get them out of my head. I'm just not sure whether I like it or not, I keep expecting to hear something and its not there and find myself singing the vocal in my head, I see the lips move but no sound is coming. I don't know if I am explaining myself here right or not. I just have difficulty getting my head around them. Technologically they are a masterpiece, anyone who can do that is incredible and that includes you as all i can do on a computer is send and recieve e-mail, I am envious of anyone with that type of knowledge of computers. Maybe I just have to listen a few more times. Please I am not bad mouthing them here, I'm just trying to explain what I feel

Chris

Re: ABBA Oops Videos

Villemo - 15.01.2008, 22:18

That's great, thanks :) I've always wanted to listen to Abba's songs in "oops" since I read about it on this forum but I didn't know how to do it. So thank you very much :)

Re: ABBA Oops Videos

Angel585 - 16.01.2008, 04:44

Valgar, all you need is one simple program which does all the work for you. Goldwave!

I did one also some time ago for Summer Night City, kareoke style ;) It's really fun to sing along! :D

I am quite happy being illiterate as far as computers go, I can't even download music, although I can find you tube. I was always more into hunting, fishing and camping than sitting in front of a screen and now they don't intrest me enough to find out how to work them beyond the basics although I deeply admire those who can do things with them

Chris

Re: ABBA Oops Videos

DistantDrums - 16.01.2008, 05:06

Or do it the original way, without a computer. Just plug in your headphones (but not quite fully) to your stereo, you have to tinker around with the plug a bit, and then you will eventually get that Oops sound. Try it and see.

You can also treat oopsed songs as a sort of karaoke, if you like to sing.
Maybe you should only listen to such tracks and not watch the video, you know - just hear the sound. Just listening to them could possibly create a different impression. The one which is really amazing is Super Trouper because there are lots, really lots of interesting backing vocals. I myself am a fan of backing vocals so no wonder I enjoy oops very much.

valgar wrote: and that includes you as all i can do on a computer is send and recieve e-mail, I am envious of anyone with that type of knowledge of computers.

It was just about the same for me as well. The pc knowledge comes gradually with lots of trial and error thingy. I am definitely not a pc wizard. :)

Saabman - 10.02.2008, 00:18

This might be a daft question but...
Did the girls actually have to sing all those individual different parts in different keys and ways? Or was it some technical wizadry? I know nowadays they have to use some sort of computer programme to get most of today's singers even keep in tune but I suppose thirty odd years ago they just had to get on and do it properly. I know they had incredible voices but they must have had enormous amount of patience too

Re: ABBA Oops Videos

Toni - 10.02.2008, 00:40

Saabman wrote: Did the girls actually have to sing all those individual different parts in different keys and ways? Or was it some technical wizadry?

They really did it all without technical tricks. Michael B. Tretow said, that with Frida and Agnetha everything is possible in the studio. They are able to sing absolutely everything what Björn & Benny wanted. Maybe some ideas for the background vocals came from themselves as well (?) I think so.

As far as I know there was only one exception. On one line of the song "The King Has Lost His Crown", they used a technical trick to put it into another key.

Hi Belinda,

it was the line "clumsy like a clown".

"Benny was doing some keyboard overdubs when he happened to make a mistake", remembers Michael. "He played a minor chord where it should have been a major one, and I said ´that sounds great! It´s much better.´, and so he redid all the keyboard parts. The only problem was, that the girls had already recorded their vocals, and there was one note that would be out of tune if we changed the chords (the word "a" in the line "clumsy like a clown"). I solved that by feeding that one note on the vocal tracks through the harmonizer, by which I was able to lower it a semi-note......"
from "The complete recording sessions"

Re: ABBA Oops Videos

Singing in choirs since childhood has taught me the pleassure of nice harmonies.

Samy.... I'm totally overwhelmed with what you've managed to show us in "One Man One Woman".... my oh my the chorus presents harmonies and rythms I've never heard untill now. Listen to that high pitched soprano (probably Agnetha) in her very own melody... soooo faaaaab.... LOOOOVE IT!!!!!!!

Can someone oops "Two for the price of one"? I probably have (realize now) some oopsed seconds of the chorus on a bootleg cd. That chorus has A LOT of hidden magic... so... anyone... oops please!!! The same technic with two "different songs" is hidden in the back of the chorus of "You owe me one" I think... soo... anyone for oopsing?

;-) Gunnar - now hooked on oops...

Re: ABBA Oops Videos

Fire&Ice - 13.02.2008, 01:07

Ah Gunnar! Hooked on OOPS? No wonder!

I oopsed almost all ABBA songs and I would put them on YouTube but since Samy is doing it, I won't. Besides, I need to learn how to include pictures into melodies yet.

I'm with Valgar on this finding the oopsed vision / sound out of sync rather difficult to get my head around, but taken in parts great videos and its good to leave them playing and listen to some of my favourite songs as I type

Great work Samy hope you get top marks for your "homework" too!!!

I wish somebody had erased the dancers from "That's Me" and shame the lyrics are drowned out by the backing tracks

Totally, eh? It's so much better than the 'regular' melody. They shouldn't have hidden it in the final production. It adds a lot more drama to the song.

The 'Through the HARD TIIIIIMES!' and 'Comes back again' parts are awesome.

Dangorous question... you might get some answers... hehe...

Songs that have multiple harmonies in the choruses must be very interesting.... Chiquitita, Cassandra... Angeleyes.... hmmm.... well... I'm looking very forward to your work, but remember to eat and sleep and all that...

Hey... what about I let the music speak and The Piper......

Hey. My tracks are oopsed straight from 'The Complete Studio Recordings' CD's, and as you use MP3's then maybe that could be the difference? Or maybe to the extent we oops the tracks? :P

I also "oopse" mp3s straight from CSR. Quite interesting that little differences are audible...

Ooopsing sort of dissects ABBA's music highlighting sections that blend naturally into the background and you don't normally hear. It's a strange effect. Just listened to Fernando and found myself singing along with Frida's lines ~ almost like being in the recording studio building up the tracks with ABBA ~ in my dreams

You have a polite request here! I am sure you've missed this one, because you usually reply to people. I would love to hear these two songs in OOPS too!

Glad you all like them guys =]
I haven't got much time to make any at the moment. I've got my GCSE's in 6 and a half weeks and i'm revising like mad and If i'm not revising then I'm sleeping or eating  So i'm not sure when I'll be able to make some more but i do plan to take a few hours out now and again and I'll see what I can do for you guys :D

After a month of exams I don't have to go back to school and have a 12+ week summer holiday and I plan to finish putting all of ABBA's tracks onto youtube in Oops form, with a few other ABBA projects planned to keep me busy through the summer, but as I'll said, I'll try and put some more videos up soon :)

Yes, funny and cool at the same time.

Since I've heard some very interesting parts in OOPS versions I've never listened to songs like "One Man, One Woman" or "Hole In Your Soul" again the way I did before. :D

Toni, Joe...
Even though I oopsed the tracks quite a while ago, i don't think i have ever listened to Happy Hawaii, i mean, I couldn't have, not without remembering those backing vocals!!! I always assumed they were ''We're going to Hawaii...We're going to hawaii...but now everything becomes clear :D

Did you also notice the piano parts going up in the back of "Happy Hawaii"? "di-di-dum", "di-di-dum", "di-di-dum". I think it's great to hear these little details which you easily can miss when not listening very carefully to the full song and I like this small part very much.

Hi, Samy! I just discovered your Oops videos on YouTube. I actually wondered if maybe it was someone from this forum, but didn't realize there was already a thread on it. Oops!

Love the affect you get by doing this. It really brings out the complexity and musicality of ABBA.

Here is what I said in my original thread: "Reminds me a bit of what happened when I listened to the recently released "Love Album" by the Beatles. There were parts there that really stood out once they were taken away from their original environment. I wonder if anyone has done anything similar to this for ABBA."

Great job, Samy!

Re: ABBA Oops Videos

Emmanuelle - 29.07.2008, 05:27

I had heard of OOPS but it wasn't until these videos that I got to listen to it. Wow  That's incredible, what an insight into the layers of sound that went into making ABBA's music.
Thank you for putting those on YouTube, Samy !

I guess Samy has been busy these days so he couldn't OOPS Watch Out.

I was talking to Gav about this song so I decided to make a quick vid with oopsed Watch Out.

It is really a thrill to hear the girls and a very muffled Bjorn. A unique experience I tell you. :D
