What ABBA song puts you to sleep?
I don't know if this has been covered before, but do any Abba fans out turn the light out listening to Abba?
Of course the title of the topic could be looked at different ways as in....do any Abba songs bore you :!: but I was thinking more about night-time listening....
Well I'm not sure I have fallen on the pillow with Voulez Vous blasting away  but feel Frida has a very pleasant 'lullaby' voice especially on the song she did with Daniel Balavoine Belle, but of course there's Sovrum off the Djupa Andetag album and Like An Angel....

Nice to see you Merton and nice topic!
I fall asleep listening to ABBA/Agnetha/Frida a lot. Usually to the slower ballad type of songs like Should I Laugh Or Cry, The Day Before You Came, Like An Angel Passing Through My Room, One Of Us, If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind and Sista Valsen Med Dig.
Best way to fall asleep...

Asleep? No way! I get far too excited when I listen to ABBA. :D

Although all ABBA ballads would be good as lullabys, especially "I Am Just A Girl", "Gonna Sing You My Lovesong", "I´ve Been Waiting For You" and "Andante Andante", I never use them that way, because I prefer to sleep in silence.

I've actually only once listened to ABBA for falling in sleep, and that was not even ABBA but Agnetha's My Coloruing Book (the song).
DancingQueen - 19.04.2008, 12:33
I always fall asleep when I listen to MCB. I love Agnetha's mature voice on this album - it has a very relaxing sound for me.
If I want something more Abba-related, I usually listen to songs from The Visitors, like I Let The Music Speak, Should I Laugh Or Cry, Slipping Through My Fingers..
So yes, I do turn off the lights when listening to Abba or Agnetha.
Simsalabim - 19.04.2008, 19:26
I don't fall asleep very often while listening to ABBA. I want to hear all the songs on the album before I go to sleep!

Like An Angel Passing Through My Room
My Love My Life
Agnetha Sometimes When I'm Dreaming & her wonderful ballads
Frida The Same really Usually ballads do it for me But I'd like to add I don't do it often.

The same with me. I have never fallen asleep when listening to ABBA. Too much excitement :-)

I always listen to my MP3 player for a bit at night, before I go to sleep. One that makes me drift off is Like An Angel Passing Through My Room.
I usually set the player to shuffle my whole ABBA collection, and - on more than one occasion, I may add - I have been reawakened rather annoyingly by the opening of Summer Night City. >_>

Skywatcher, quite right about Summer Night City :D
That intro is not good for heart conditions! Mind you, could work the opposite and be a great alarm clock....M

I can't listen to any music when I go to sleep, because it distracts me too much (especially ABBA!!!). Similarly to what a bunch of you have already said, I can't really picture falling asleep to music on purpose, per se. However, there have been car/bus rides where I listened to ABBA. And the one thing that always made me fall asleep was ABBA Undeleted. Maybe because there's a bunch of dialogue in the beginning, but I always seem to fall asleep within the first few minutes of that.
drimnagh - 23.04.2008, 16:50
I don't think there are really many ABBA songs that could put me to sleep (too many surprises and flourishes in the music) apart from 'Like An Angel Passing Thru My Room'.
Is that the time? I was just dozing off on the sofa when that this thread beckoned me...

My mother told yesterday a funny thing. When my brother was 3 years old, he needed to listen to "Me and Bobby and Bobby's brother". This song was calming him down before falling asleep.

Hi Merton,
Long time no see! You always have these interesting topics.
Well for me when we were kids, my sister and I shared a bedroom and we would often put on the tape player with Abba music when we were going to sleep (usually on the weekends or holidays). It did not matter what songs they were but we would try to remember in the morning which was the last song we heard before we drifted off. Then later as a teenager when I finally got my own room, I would put on the earphones and listen to Abba quite often before going to sleep. Nowadays, with two small children when my head hits the pillow that's it! No time for music then. So now I always listen to Abba when I am driving or sometimes at home if I am doing housework!
Sorry for thoroughly boring everybody to tears! Did I go off the topic slightly?
Gina
abbascots - 04.05.2008, 21:06
No Gines you did not bore me as i did the exact same thing as you :) When i was around 10/11 i used too share with my sister and wee used too listen too Abba aswel going too sleep i remember clearly i played Arrival album dureing this time,Eventualy i got my own room and i was a teenager by then and i started listening too other groups but not too often going too sleep!

  I sympathize with you! That must have been one hell of waking up!
I prefer falling asleep in silence and any music (even ABBA's) annoys me in that case. I suppose LAAPTMR would be a good choice for falling asleep but then the tick-tock of that metronome would drive me crazy I know.
Once I was watching DKRC late at night and I happened to doze off. I was awaken, pretty much the same as Skywatcher's experience, but with Rock Me!

Thats a nice tip i will try it :D
Gines - 05.05.2008, 00:20
Thanks for the reply Johnsteven. It's funny that people all around the world really are not that different at all.
I guess though a good song to go to sleep to would be Like an angel. Maybe one day I'll try that song!
Gina
merton - 05.05.2008, 10:45
Hi Gines, nice to see you here
Well I am definitely one who can fall asleep to all kinds of music but mostly "chilled out" music - and I too find it interesting to wake up the next morning (although it might sometimes be an afternoon nap) and check out what the last song was that I heard....Like an Angel is definitely a lullaby winner, with its metronome effect I'm sure it alters the brainwaves! Quite like Arrival too - the title track. Move On has a nice swaying feeling to it and liked the earlier suggestion of Me and Bobby and Bobby's Brother with its comforting nursery rhyme feel
Pardon me, I feel a yawn coming on....

merton - 05.05.2008, 10:46
Gina I should say
Gines - 05.05.2008, 12:44
Oh Merton, You're too funny! Nice to hear from you. Yeah I guess Arrival would be a good one as well. How about Should I laugh or Cry?.That has a nice kind of soothing sound to it. Oh and what about I have a Dream......seems appropriate!
Gina
Fire&Ice - 05.05.2008, 15:24
Yes, I have a dream would be appropriate - the song does not have too many twists and turns, no annoying instruments such as drums and violins and a loud electric guitar and I would suggest the Spanish version - without the choir!
abbascots - 05.05.2008, 23:01
Hello Merton and Gines
