A'vron d'ma Shadar is the standing force of Manetheren. When shadowspawn rears it ugly head, the Watchers of the Shadow are there to confront them. When Darkfriends start an uproar, the Watchers will quash it. They are the first line of offense and defence, mostly on the battlefield, but they are skilled on other grounds as well.
The most important thing of being A'vron d'ma Shadar is to know how to fight. Let your Aes Sedai do the thinking, and use your mind and your body as a weapon. Be aware of what is going on. See, listen and feel your surroundings, seek out evil before it finds you, engage it when you can win, but retreat when you are overwhelmed.
To put it short, the best defence is a good offense. Strike before you get struck. Protect your Aes Sedai and listen to her, for she makes the plan and you carry it out.
If it can be said of the Tower to have an army, the A'vron d'ma Shadar is just that.
