Agnetha and her teeth!
OK...if not already posted as a topic for discussion elsewhere:

When was the time period that Agnetha had her teeth "fixed"?! I have not been able to pin down the date by viewing videos, does anyone have something more definitive as to when the corrections were made?

I am just curious, as I thought that the early Agnetha with the imperfect smile, gap and all, was quite beautiful as whe was prior.

hi, this topic has been done a couple times now. and she didn't get her teeth fixed. her wisdom teeth pushed her teeth in so they didn't have that gap anymore.

I'm not so sure that it's been mentioned on THIS site (has it?). However it has been discussed on a few ABBA forums in the past.

Aggie-fan is correct that she did not have any dental work done (Agnetha's own claim I believe). I'm not sure about the wisdom teeth being the reason the gap closed (didn't read or hear that myself), but it does seem plausible that wisdom teeth growth might do that.

Re: Agnetha and her teeth!

drimnagh - 05.10.2007, 13:52

Agnetha said herself that she didn't have any work done and it is quite plausible that her wisdom teeth closed the gap. My teeth used to be perfectly straight but one now slightly overlaps the other and it's a fact that over time, teeth do indeed shift about a bit; sometimes quite considerably!

Even if Agnetha DID have the gap closed I see no problem with that but I thought she looked very cute with it... :P

I have a 'thing' about gaps between the front teeth- I find it very sexy indeed! As I'm sure many others do, too.

Oh, divine teeth! I absolutely loved that gap; it gave her personality and it certainly was one of the features that made me like Agnetha so much at the beginning of my infatuation, although it may sound stupid. The gap gave her a child-like bashful racy look I found irresistible. I don't know if the wisdom teeth or the dentist are to blame for the murder, but with the destruction of that gap something inside me died as well  And now, please let's talk about her earlobes.

Re: Agnetha and her teeth!

abbangelears - 05.10.2007, 18:30

We shouldn't worry about repeating topics. Faithful husbands, like me, must get used to sharing our lives with the same wife year after year after year, after year, after decade..., and that gives us the right to keep the same lovers (virtual in Agnetha's case  ) and in consequence to talk about the same charms once and again and again and again...

Her front teeth bug me. They are crooked and I thought she should have worn a retainer for a couple of years or braces. Mind you she couldn't really wear braces during the ABBA years or during her post ABBA solo career. But she had the perfect opportunity to get them straightened between 1987-present. In fact if she just wore a retainer at night, she could be getting her teeth fixed while sleeping, yet a retainer is fully removable by the user, so when she sang or got photos taken, she'd wouldn't have the retainer in. I used to wear a retainer at night and it straightened my front teeth in a couple years. I took the retainer out during the day. No biggie. She could do the same.

I don't see why she would lie about something like this. What's the crime? I had braces, i think a LOT of people had them, nothing bad about that. I think she had one of those night things, take them out in the morning and no one can tell she uses it :)

Your post strikes me a little funny, polod. I always thought Agnetha had a pretty smile. I noticed the gap in the early days (which never bothered me) but it never once occured to me she had crooked teeth in over 30 years of looking at pictures and watching musical performances? (Maybe I do need my eyes checked.  )

Perhaps folks that have had major orthodontal work (as you have) are more fixated on the teeth than the rest of us. However, you really shouldn't let little things like that bug you so much. Everyone has little flaws, that's what makes us human.

Re: Agnetha and her teeth!

platobird - 06.10.2007, 16:54

I thought I read or heard somewhere that Agnetha had braces when she was young (long before ABBA). I remembering wondering why the gap wasn't closed then. I could be wrong, and I can't remember the source. Today, performers must have perfect teeth regardless of their talent. :D

A comment on YouTube to Agnetha singing Sometimes When I'm Dreaming, ragged on her for an apparent gap in her teeth at the lower right. YouTube comments are usually shi*.

Frida had a chipped tooth at the bottom, and it seems it was fixed later in the ABBA years.

Are we ready to move on to an more interesting body part.

I think you are right - I remember that too. Not sure if it was published in BRDS, in some other book, or even on the internet, but it is kinda impossible a such a gap disappears over the years.

Braces or whatever - what does it matter anyway? Everyone wears braces nowadays, (I have a similar 'gap' between my front teeth because of it) so won't be shocked if she did had her teeth fixed.

Dancing Queen has taken down her avatar - again - so she needs to put back a picture of just her teeth. :rotfl2:

DQ is a very pretty young girl. We now know she has a Dutch name that no one can pronounce and a gap in her teeth. Wow! We can write a book about her life, however we'll have to make up some stuff.

Gosh people!!

Agnetha said in several interviews that her teeth have not been fixed! There is no reason why the lady would lie so who are we to say she did, to have other theories or to even judge her!? Why does it even matter anyway?

No one here knows what happened to her teeth so all we do right now is gossip since we really are clueless. Again: Agnetha said she had nothing (nada, nichts, rien, niks) done to her teeth so I guess we should respect that and move on!

Just to be clear, I think remarking that someone has a sexy feature is a harmless and rather flattering comment. No matter if aimed at a man or a woman. But not really appropriate for a 15 year-old, which it is clear you were not aware.

Ahem ... moving right along:

Dave, I don't really see a war going on here, just some differences of opinion. I'm not convinced anything as drastic as locking is needed (yet ...).

I might suggest taking a deep breath however. (oxygen is good for calming the emotions :D )

I was reminded from platobird and DQ's posts that Agnetha did in fact have oral surgery and wore braces from the age of 10-14. She descrbed it to CMP in the book BLDS (chapter 8 ). She says that she was rather traumatised by the experience (kids can be quite sadistic to other children that have braces  ).

The braces were removed at 14 so that does not explain the closing of the gap however because she obviously had it until her late 20's. Agnetha was asked about the closing of the gap in a few interviews over the years and she did say that it gradually closed up on it's own. As Ron indicates, I think we should give her the respect to take her at her word. :D

This is all public information that Agnetha provided herself so no secrets being revealed or speculation.

Quote: I'll assume from this comment you are unaware that DancingQueen is a 15 year-old girl

16. Almost 16. :eyebrow: One more month to go..

I think Caribbean is right - if she said so, we should assume it is true - I agree on that now. I was only wondering how on earth such a gap could disappear without some supernatural help. :rotfl:

This thread should better be locked. The fact that 'Agnetha had this' and that 'Agnetha looked lik this' isn't egual to 'sexy'. I doubt if she ever would agree with that herself..

But again, I agree this discussion should better come to an end. I can imagine some more intresting topics about Agnetha than her teeth.

Re: Agnetha and her teeth!

johnny59 - 07.10.2007, 11:05

Well, I can't see any violation of a site rule, so it's kind of hard to lock it. Usually we do not censor threads as long as they align with our guideline.

Personally I wouldn't have objections if it just died out. Even the topic creator has expressed that he's fed up with it meanwhile.

Re: Agnetha and her teeth!

platobird - 07.10.2007, 17:25

This message should be a topic killer. It seems Agnetha's childhood orthodontist was skilled enough to know that her teeth would move a bit as her mouth matured, so he didn't close the gap initially and probably just lined things up a bit.

Now someone needs to post a series of pictures showing Aggie's teeth from age 15 to 25, and we can track the gap as it vanishes. :D From the pictures, we can estimate the gap space in millimeters and create a chart over the ten year period.

For those who are in love with the gap, we'll know they are feeling increasing gap-despair. :( For those passionately awaiting the more mature mouth, their ecstasy will grow exponentially.

Those who enjoy her singing, will experience a unchanging constancy of pleasure for 40 years. :love4:

Re: Agnetha and her teeth!

polod - 07.10.2007, 21:34

What I meant by "crooked" was just her front left tooth, it sticks out a bit from the other and it bends sideways, slightly overlapping her right front tooth on the bottom. She should just get that one tooth straightened by a nightime retainer (easy to fix and not very expensive). Since she doesn't go out much, she could probably wear a retainer most of the day and all night. Within a year or so, her tooth will be completely straightened. See the link below of her promo shots for "My Coloring Book". The tooth that is crooked is on your right looking at the picture, Agnetha's left front tooth. The second link you can see her side of her front tooth that sticks out a bit.

I also believe she didn't do anything to her teeth since she was a child, but I must notice one thing - Agnetha had very healthy teeth! Not a single filling all this time.. :o

It must be the wisdom teeth that gradually closed the gap.
Funnily enough, the same thing happened to me but in the opposite direction. My gap got wider when I removed my wisdom teeth.. :(

I must say I was wondering what gap people kept mentioning when I realised it was the lower jaw in question.

Re: Agnetha and her teeth!

Angel585 - 07.10.2007, 23:39

I had a gap between my two front teeth up until I was 10 years old. It naturally disappeared, so I have no doubt that Agnetha didn't get work done ;) Rate of teeth growth varies from person to person.
Some cultures value imperfect teeth because it represents unique beauty as opposed to America, which is all about (unnaturally) straight pearly whites. You can't deny both ABBA girls had beautiful smiles, despite the "crooked teeth" :D

Does anyone actually listen or bother to read about this stuff? I've said it before and I'll state it again for posterity... Teeth DO move in alignment over the years! Ask any dentist! So it's quite possible that Agnetha's gap closed naturally over time.

And finally, this obsession with 'perfection' and someone saying Agnetha 'should' get her bottom gap fixed or the over lapping top one...what utter twaddle! Do we all wanna look the same with no individuality? No. well, I certainly don't wanna live in a world where everyone has perfectly straight, stupid looking white hollywood teeth! Lol

Unless something's a major hindrance or causing discomfort why the hell would anyone want to gaze upon someone whose teeth look fixed?! Bring on the quirks, that's what I say!

I think Agnetha's teeth are lovely just as they are; unique just like her..

And there are far more important things in life to worry about anyway..

Re: Agnetha and her teeth!

platobird - 08.10.2007, 18:29

I'm surprised that this thread hasn't died yet; however, I'm not surprised that no one followed my stupid recommendation to post progressive pictures of the "gap". Therefore I have to do it myself!

This is actually Linda, and I can't find a similar pic of Agnetha. Considering heredity, we can assume that at this young age, Aggie's front tooth gap was similar.

When Agnetha started her career (about age 17) her teeth were aligned, but a small gap was still apparent. Also the left maxillary central incisor (number 9 or F in dental terms) was slightly in front of the right. Perhaps due to a small error in the early orthodontic work.

As she matured and the wisdom teeth emerged - usually before age 24 - the gap was closed, but that out-of-line left incisor was pushed in front of the right. Please note that Agnetha is on the left as you look at this picture.

By the time of Waterloo, her teeth settled in, although the interproximal contact of the central incisors was a bit askew.

Although the gap was essentially closed, caricatures of Agnetha continued to identify her youthful diastema with her adult appearance. FYI this is not the real Agnetha.

Finally, the slight overlap was never corrected and remained to full maturity as a permanent "flaw". On the basis of the information disclosed in this thread, I'll need to re-examine my relationship with Agnetha.

I've completed my analysis and I've decided ot follow Angel's wisdom, and I see 'unique beauty" in Agnetha in every picture :love4: (except the puppet)

Re: Agnetha and her teeth!

platobird - 08.10.2007, 21:12

An important on-topic addition is that the slightly protruding left central incisor could have been corrected by a nighttime retainer starting at about age 20. Then, the two central incisors would have made contact (the 8 incisors are the only teeth that should touch), and the left would not have been pushed in front of the right. :D I imagine that Agnetha thought she was pretty enough as she was, and I agree.

Another important feature of the left incisor is that you can tell when a picture has been reversed. :?

Her wonderful voice was never at risk based on her teeth, although her troublesome tonsils were a different story. It must have been a tough decision to go ahead with a tonsillectomy, even though her voice could have changed. However, her repeated tonsillitis was impacting the group.

I would have posted a picture of her tonsils, but I couldn't find one. Perhaps it's time to move ahead. 8) I'm happy to abandon this thread.

Agnetha and her fillings! Agnetha is not cavity free! Agnetha and her retainer!, For Heaven's sake! You are talking about Agnetha as if she were an ordinary human being. But when was the last time you played an Abba song? A piece of advice: Just listen to her voice in SOS, AS GOOD AS NEW or CHIQUITITA and let's see if you are able to think about fillings or retainers. Impossible, there's only one Agnetha. We'll need a picture of your "gap" to compare. Please post immediately!

It's quite easy to keep the forum in one window and the market in another. We ordinary human beings need to make money to survive. AND, we also need a community of friends, so both the market and the forum and necessary to life on earth.

All that said, I'm going to let Agnetha touch me again.

Mind, my gap widened in years and due to certain surgery I had, and hers closed. How about the lower teeth gap? Has anyone noticed that one?

I noted it somewhere in this thread that some dork on YouTube commented about the lower gap which shows in the Sometimes When I'm Dreaming video. I didn't go back and try to find it.

Talk about oral surgeries! If we ever meet, we can compare notes.

That's not really true. Agnetha has stated many times through the years that she dreamed of being a singing star as a child. However, she wanted to be more of a local star in Sweden rather than the international superstar that she became. A "little star" as she describes it.

I think it is true that she couldn't have foreseen that anyone would be discussing her dental work 20 years after her public life more or less ended. But after all she has been through, and all that has been written about her since she was 17, I don't think this topic would shock her in the least.

After all it's not a cruel or mean-spirited discussion, but I agree it is pretty ridiculous. :rotfl:

But, you know what? I was merely wondering if/when something was done, as I have never seen her with any sort of dental/orthodontic devices in any pics over the last 30 years! And, Agnetha being such a lovely lady no matter how her teeth look, I am just a curious fan, and always will be!

Why is there so much interest in locking this thread? Those who don't like it just have to ignore it; it's as simple as that. I would like somebody to tell me what the problem is? This thread, as many others, is just an excuse to talk about Agnetha (whom we love) and to have some fun. Besides, it's been very useful, now some of us know a lot about mouths and teeth  And who knows? Maybe the youngest members of the forum will discover their vocation as dentists thanks to this thread and therefore, thanks to Agnetha :D (Sorry, I haven't found an emoticon with a gap between its incissors)

abbangelears wrote: Why is there so much interest in locking this thread?
Maybe the moderators haven't locked anything for a while, and their trigger fingers are gettin itchy.

The most interesting thing I learned is that there's a website dedicated to celebrities with diastema (a gap), and Agnetha made the cut. That's unusual, because during her highest popularity (the ABBA years) the gap was closed - and, there was even an overlap (i.e. a negative gap). :?

When she began her recording career in Sweden at age 17, a small gap was still apparent, and she was unable to ovecome that image throughout her career - although her bottom got more attention. There's a tendancy to portray a sexy image for a female celeb, so I guess butts are more sexy than teeth.

I suggested we move on to Agnetha's tonsils, so I've repeated Angel's pic here as the closest look I can find. (Note, no diastema at this age.)
You can't see them down there, because they're gone. :rotfl2:
This picture doesn't emphasize her beautiful face and smile, which IMO are her best features. (in addition to her voice). :love4:

I know the tonsils had to be removed, but I'm sure they were every bit as sexy as her teeth.

LOL Don't worry, they are gone so we can't talk about them! Fortunately..

Anyway, this thread has been useful for me too, because I have learned that two front teeth are called incissors. 8) I'm going to impress the kids at school! :D

I find her lower teeth gap quite interesting! I haven't seen virtually anybody who has it. Don't you guys think that one is cute as well? It is still there. :)

Re: Agnetha and her teeth!

abbangelears - 13.10.2007, 17:43

Yes, the lower teeth gap is another masterpiece of nature. Taking that into account I think this topic, being so fertile, should have been divided into two from the beginning: one for the upper gap and another one for the lower gap, in order to make our job easier. And as long as tonsils are concerned, Ivanna, don't be so sure we can't talk about them because they are gone; once the tonsils were removed, they left a gap (another one) in Agnetha's divine mouth, and by now you must know how dangerous gaps are on this forum. Agnetha's tonsils' absence could be called THE THIRD GAP,wonderful title for a new thread: THE THIRD GAP, it sounds like a James Bond's movie.

Definitely a very important question, and I'll have to hit the medical webistes to see if an adenoidectomy would have affected her voice more that just tonsillectomy. I believe vocal tone and the singing voice are related to resonance in the nasal cavity and sinuses and not the throat. Sinuses are hollow spaces in the skull bone (I'm sure Agnetha's sinuses are adorable), so the voice tone is very stable. :D

Fire&Ice wrote: I have learned that two front teeth are called incissors.
We have eight incisors - four upper and four lower - and these are the "cutting" teeth for ripping flesh from bone - or for eating a T-bone steak. Next to the incisors are the canines (cuspids)- good for attacking prey. Vampire Agnetha has enslaved many fortunate souls.

Thanks for the right info Dr. P! I wouldn't mind eating a T-bone steak at all.

I just caught up with reading this thread. It's getting funny. First the gap, in her teeth, then tonsils, then adnoids. Poor Agnetha, I hope she's not reading this. She probably thought the Sexiest Bum Award was the end of it (pardon the pun). Now sexiest tonsils and adnoids? :rotfl2:

Actually, in addition to my BS degrees, (physics and engineering), I have an MS degree (you might say even More S***). Now I'm working on a degree in ABBAology, but I'm way behind most of the people here.

My wife tells me she read that Barbara Streisand never had a nose job because her voice coach feared it would change her voice. This fits with the idea that the nasal cavities determine the vioce tone .

The adenoids are located high at the back of the throat, i.e. close to the nasal area, so I'd conclude that Agnetha still has them. In any event, I understand her problems with throat infections were cured by the tonsillectomy; giving us many years of great music. :D (No s*** there!)

I guess I can agree that this topic, by itself, is not entirely offensive. Believe me, when it comes to "body parts" nothing mentioned so far even approaches the depravity of what the media is willing to discuss regarding Britney Spears, on a daily basis...

When it comes to BS, you've hit the jackpot. Agnetha's infected tonsils had more talent than BS.
Nevertheless, that particular BS :fight: has no place in an Agnetha  topic.
