Interview with ASP
'Ask Amy-Sherman-Palladino just about anything and the response you get it animated, articulate, and decidely Lorelai-esque.'It then goes on to discuss how this is her last season on the show. "I have one year left on my contract, Lauren and Alexis are definitely signed on for seven years, and I can't imagine the WB will let those little chickies go. They shouldn't."
She then talks about what kind of show she thinks it is. " I don't really think this is a chick show. I consider this a family show, a multi-generational family show. And I think our men are very strong characters. But it clearly is Lorelai and Rory's lives."
Apparently the WB let ASP create the show without any creative interference whatsoever. "We never went through creative decisions, we never revamped, we never changed casts.We've never in six years had a story or a script thrown out. Ever. Or even questioned. It just worked. I don't know why. It's a fate thing. The stars were aligned. There's been a lot of faith, and it's sort of like, as long as we keep delivering, they're just hoping we haven't gone completely insae."
It then talks about how season 6 is so different because of the rift. "For Lorelai the hardest thing in the world is not to have contact with Rory. And yet she feels like Rory needs to go through this journey."
It then talks about Old Rory vs. New Rory. " I think it's a very important journey for her because she never made mistakes. And she needs to make some mistakes and she needs to bump into a few walls and she needs to figure out what she's made of."
It then goes on to talk about the latest spoilers. Including the one episode return of Hair Gel and a 'life-changing surprise for Luke'. They then talk about the latest addition to the cast - Paul Anka. "Pet's make you do stupid things,"she quotes. She then discusses L& L's relationship "It's the beginning of Luke and Lorelai's relationship and I wanted to show that they weren't totally in couple mode yet."
They then talk about how she's just focused on the present season and doesn't want to think about what willl happen after she leaves. She then talks about Lauren's continuous Emmy snub. " If it really was about 'What is the best work on television right now?', Lauren Graham would have been nominated. If it really, really, truly in its purest form was about the best work on televison, Lauren Graham would have won."
Apparently once she leaves GG she is working on a pilot for an MTV miniseries and then branching out in feature films. " I think it's time for me to be abused by a whole new set of people," she says laughing.
There's also a side bar box called 'The Boys of Girls' which says "Aside from its unique take on mother-daughter relationships and it's snappy dialgoue laced with pop culture references, GG has another notable claim to fame: churning out young heart-throbs who go on to continued success outside the series. "They don't call, they don't write," deadpans ASP. And then there's a picture and write up of Jared, Chad, Adam,and Milo.
