    My software choice
I currently use Mix Meister Pro 5 for any software mixing. This is a great program & has alot of options in it. There is currently a version 6 out, but it is not nearly as good as version 5. Also, this software can be used for live sets also.

Since I am still kinda new to the digital game, I also use FL Studio 5 for beats & some sampling also. I have yet to master the software, but I'm working on it!

Can u easily mix digital audio with it? My prob is, whenever I want to make a mixtape, at the 15th song my program gives up and it starts to crackle....

I haven't had any problems with it. My biggest mix done with it to date was entitled "Whoa IV" & consisted of almost 300 tracks (some repeats & alotta samples) in a 19 minute span. You can sample it through my site here...http://djdiamonddog.com/music/Whoa_4.mp3 My advice (however) if you decide to look into this software, don't bother with version 6...I've heard too many bad things about it which is why I never upgraded. They are just about due for version 7 soon, though.

I followed your advice and tried the demo of Mixmeister (6 tho) and am totally crazy about it now! It's awesome!
But still a bit confused with all the differences, Pro, Studio, Express, which version is best?

Also, I do have the question, how do you shorten the songs without taking the nice mix away? Whenever I shortened one song, the mix was not as smooth anymore....

The Pro version is the best because you can use the Direct-X plug-ins. Like I said b4, though...I would not invest in v6....look for 7 to be out soon. As far as your other question about shortening the song, I am not sure of exactly what you mean. If you can be more specific, I would be happy to help you!!

I gladlly be specific for you guapo ;)

Well, I mean, when you do a mixtape, you don't want to play each song fully!!! You want to cut it down to a minute or a tad longer if not even shorter. You know what I mean? So, how to shorten that 4:35 song to approx. 1:10 or something. In FL 5 there is a quick and easy option to cut the song. But in Mixmeister, I didn't see how. And whenever I did the mix but want to cut the song then, it changed the whole appearance and didn't mix well with the other songs anymore. It shifted the whole mix. :(

The trick to using Mixmeister is tweaking the intro & outro sprockets (kinda like in Acid when you set up each song individually with the first downbeat, etc). Sometimes MM will not set the intro & outro sprockets correctly by default. What you have to do is set them so they cover the proper 8 measures (or 16, 24, 32, etc). Once they are set properly, right click the track & select save current settings as catalog default. This will set up the track so that everytime you bring it into the playlist window, it will be with your settings. After that, you can cut the track wherever you want (but make sure you keep it on beat (each measure is represented by a vertical dotted line.

Here is a tut i set up for this on another forum that I am a mod on...

This is a great mixing program, but it takes quite a bit of getting used to, mostly because of the visual setup. With MM you mix visually as well as by ear. I took me a while to get the hang of it. Any questions, just ask!!!

I read some of the tuts but dang, I am not getting it.
When reading about to stretch the sprocket, downbeat 1, intro, outro, my head started smoking. :)

LOL....it takes a lil practicing first, I think. When I first sampled it, I used it once & put it away for about 2 weeks & said "no way! I'll stick to vinyl". Then, I got frustrated and became determined to learn it. Although it's a lil different from most mixing software, the possibilities are endless. It's all about mastering those sprockets. Once ya start to get used to it, the rest will come to ya....especially since you already understand mixing. Just holla back after ya experimented for a bit & I'll try to help ya (if ya still need it).
