Elva kvinnor i ett hus!
Hej!

Agnetha released her fifth solo album called Elva kvinnor i et huss on December 1st 1975.
For those who do not know the album here already the first three songs for you to enjoy!

The opening track was the only song out of 11 that she did not compose: the Swedish version of SOS. Frida sadly is missing but Bjorn's backing is very clear:

The remaining 10 songs were all written and produced by Agnetha with Bosse Carlgren. Second song on the album was En egen trädgård:

Link

Third song was Tack för en underbar vanlig dag:

Ok... eight more to go! I :love4: YouTube!!

Ron thank you so much

LOVELY!
Thanks heaps, I know some people who don't have her boxset will also appreciate this very much. Am waiting for the next 8 songs!
Scandiaca - 19.06.2008, 09:27

Thank you, I love that album. When it comes to Tack för en underbar vanlig dag, I can listen to it over and over and over... :agnetha:

Thank you, thank you, thank you Carribean.

Wow, I really do love her Swedish version of SOS. I'd thought that it would definately pale against the english version which I've always loved. I was so wrong.
Carribean - 19.06.2008, 12:50

You're all very welcome!

Next the cute and charming Gulleplutt with Michael Tretow laughing at the end:

A year earlier the English version called Golliwog was released as a single in Germany but it was not released on this album:

Next: Äd du som han!

This song here is taken from vinyl so the quality is not as good but it is the only upload at the moment. Enjoy!
WATERL00 - 21.06.2008, 02:16

A great album, a good proof to me how underrated Agnetha as a songwriter is.

Here are to videos of her performing

"Dom har glömt"

and "Tack för en underbar, vanlig dag!"
Link

I've never seen the latter one so complete as here...
Maxi-saxi - 21.06.2008, 04:31

Thanks for the links guy's

Much appreciated

WATERL00 wrote: A great album, a good proof to me how underrated Agnetha as a songwriter is.

Very true! And she started as a singer/songwriter in a time where that was not even standard. Only years later female singer/songwriters like Carole King, Carly Simon and Joni Mitchel started getting succesful.

Next song: Och han väntar pa mej. Also a lesser known song that is really gorgeous. I just love the instrumentation with strings, accoustic guitar and clarinet in the intermezzo. Agnetha's vocals sound very mellow and relaxed.

I think this is a mono version but it is the only one uploaded on YouTube.

Next is Doktorn:

skm - 22.06.2008, 08:41

Thanks a lot for these great links. It's highly regretable that she stopped writing (except for 1 or 2 songs) after ABBA became big.

May I know if Agnetha produced this album herself?
Carribean - 22.06.2008, 08:46

skm wrote: May I know if Agnetha produced this album herself?

Yes Agnetha produced the album herself except of course for SOS.
So that is how talented she really is.

skm - 22.06.2008, 14:08

Thanks for the info. She did a fantastic job as producer in MCB. So it was not her 1st time then. She seemed to be someone to be reckoned with back then - singer/songwriter/producer. My admiration for her keeps on growing.
Carribean - 22.06.2008, 15:40

Agnetha also co-produced (with Michael Tretow) the two albums she did with her children. She actually recorded more albums solo than with ABBA: eleven! Out of these Agnetha (co-)produced four of them.
platobird - 22.06.2008, 18:17

Producing (which requires money) four of her albums is not quite as amazing (IMO) as writing most of the songs for ten of the eleven. :applause: OMG, in addition to being beautiful and rich, she has talent!

I recall the paper by Sabine.Vogt-Schneider, which we discussed at length, and one premise was that Agnetha gave up her composing career to support ABBA and build a family. OMG, in addition to being beautiful, rich and talented, she's noble and a woman. :love4:

It's nice to see the new pictures of her out and about (in another topic), and she looks great - although a wee bit older than the ingénue of Elva Kvinnor. :D
platobird - 22.06.2008, 19:39

More... I just can't say enough about Agnetha. :D

Agnetha was a busy girl in the '70s - '80s, and I can forgive her for abandoning composing. However, she denies being in a relatioinship, she's not out clubbing every night, Linda and Christian are grown, and the grandchildren have their own parents to manage things! Soooo, Agnetha should have time to produce that new album of her own songs. :agree:

OK Aggie dear, time to cut out the c*** and get back to work! :agnetha:
Carribean - 22.06.2008, 21:32

platobird wrote: Producing (which requires money) four of her albums is not quite as amazing (IMO) as writing most of the songs for ten of the eleven. :applause: OMG, in addition to being beautiful and rich, she has talent!

Why would it require money? It is actually cheaper if you do it yourself because you do not have to hire a producer.
abbagav - 22.06.2008, 21:57

Never heard Gulleplutt before! - sounds like the type of song Lyndsey de Paul would have recorded at the time. Or Fox maybe...

I've only heard Doktorn and Tack For En Underbar Vanlig Dag before - quite impressed with the rest of it to be honest! Is the album available on CD on it's own or is it only available on the box set?

malin - 22.06.2008, 22:12

I really like "Elva kvinnor i ett hus". Earlier I had like two years when I was litening to this album daily.
The sommarnöjet performances are absolutely adorable  . I havent seen "Tack för en underbar vanlig dag" in full before either, so that was awesome. BTW notice she sings "...hurra det är söndag imorgon"instead of "lördag" as in the studio version.
Carribean - 22.06.2008, 22:41

abbagav wrote: I've only heard Doktorn and Tack For En Underbar Vanlig Dag before - quite impressed with the rest of it to be honest! Is the album available on CD on it's own or is it only available on the box set?

The album was only released on cd as part of the boxset however there are CD's of Elva kvinnor i ett hus around but those are bootlegs. The boxet is really worth having!

skm - 23.06.2008, 17:44

Once again, thanks Carribean - you are a wealth of info.

I've always wondered why Agnetha was dissatisfied with her life - the last few years before the divorce. She had talked about it somewhat but never gave us the reasons. Bjorn also noted that she started to become less confident on stage in their later years (not that he noticed it when they were still married). She was rich, famous, beautiful and had 2 adoring children. Yes, she wanted to spend more time with them but that was only one reason.

Now that I know how creative and involved she was in her music in her early years, from singer, songwriter to producer of her own songs, it leads me to suspect the loss of this creativity or control while in ABBA must have played a part. Agnetha was definately a woman of substance nad it must have pained her somewhat to be known to millions as nothing more than a pretty face (or the sexiest bottom) with a gorgeous voice. If you talk to a female singer/songwriter and praise them effusely about thier beautiful singing and gorgeous looks, you can bet that they will remind you that they can also write. The need for critical acclaim is inherent in most creative artists. Agnetha did not get that in ABBA. Well, she did not contribute in that way. Instead, journalists and fans gushed over her Nordic beauty and voice.

Sorry, I've gone waaaaay.......... off topic.
platobird - 23.06.2008, 18:56

skm wrote: I've always wondered why Agnetha was dissatisfied with her life...
I don't think we know that for sure; unless you want to believe the tabloid press. Unfortunately for Agnetha watchers, she will probably never write her autobiography and "tell all."

Regarding the years beofre the divorce, we've pretty much accepted the idea that Agnetha was torn between the stage and motherhood, whereas Björn was ready to tour and boogie. We probably don't need to know any more. 8)

Today, Agnetha seems "settled in" and happy, however she knows whenever she steps out, cameras will flash in her face. (and we'll post the pictures here).

The songs from Elva Kvinnor are wonderful, and I wish it was actually tolv kvinnor and they were all her own songs. :D
Carribean - 23.06.2008, 20:56

Agnetha talked about her songwriting in her last interview (to date) in December 2004 with Lasse Bengtsson:

LB: Well, Agnetha, as I was driving the other day and listened to this song and your other old songs… Hi by the way.

AF: Hi Lasse!

LB: Then I thought, what good songs you wrote.

AF: Yes, I did.

LB: Where is it (that talent) these days?

AF: Somewhere in here, inside me and up here. <Pointing towards her head>

LB: But you don’t compose anything now?

AF: No, I don’t compose much these days.

LB: Why not?

AF: It’s as if I got it all out of me during that time. I was very productive then, with my own music and lyrics. So there was a lot to get inspiration from then.

LB: But they’re all so sad. Why are they so sad?

AF: Well, I don’t know. Later on somebody else wrote the lyrics. I became too critical.

LB: Oh, you did?

AF: Yes, I was very critical.

LB: Have you always been critical of yourself?

AF: Yes, I have. Very much. Especially when it comes to my lyrics I think. There are very many that I’m not so fond of, lyrics that I think are very naïve.

In 1985 she also expressed in an interview how she had struggled all summer (of 1984) long to compose the melody that would become I Won't Let You Go. So I guess songwriting became more and more time consuming plus that Agnetha was indeed more and more critical.
platobird - 23.06.2008, 22:10

Agnetha also commented on Man (from WYAAM). "It took me some time to write it. I worked a lot with it; even with the lyrics."

The hardest person for Agnetha to please is probably herself. She has no problem pleasing me. :love4: Man is one of my favorites. :applause:

Let's see, if it takes her two years to write a song, and she needs at least 10 songs for the new album, we should see the album before she's 80.
Carribean - 23.06.2008, 23:35

Actually... Agnetha had written songs for the album that became My Colouring Book according to Staffan Linde at the time.
If she'd only release them...

Agnetha's cover of ABBA's Disillusion (music: Agnetha, lyrics: Bjorn) was called Mina ögon:

Link
drimnagh - 24.06.2008, 14:09

It's just a pity that Agnetha isn't inspired by some of her recent life experiences (both good and bad) to put pen to paper and compose some new songs about it!

Actually, she probably HAS but I mean RECORDED and RELEASED so us, her avid fans, can enjoy them, too!

Or perhaps she has been a busy little bee? Yeeeeessss... Who really knows? I still live in hope that she will release a new album of songs written by her own fair hand again one day.

Or anything really. Another cd of covers would do me. I'm easily pleased.

J ('True Prince blah blah blah...'  )

Carribean wrote: Agnetha's cover of ABBA's Disillusion (music: Agnetha, lyrics: Bjorn) was called Mina ögon:

Thanks, I wouldn't call it a cover, though since it is her own song. You cannot really cover yourself, can you?
Carribean - 24.06.2008, 20:30

Phillip I do not agree with you.

A cover is a new rendition/performance/recording of a previously recorded song. So if you recorded a song and record it then live or in another version you are able to call it a cover because there already is an original version.

Joe - 24.06.2008, 21:56

I think the album demonstrates Agnetha's great talent as a composer. Many interesting moments in the songs. It often is just the (old-fashioned) arrangement which could be improved. Anyway, sad that the original concept got lost. It would have been very interesting to see and hear the complete work.

SOS
it's not bad at all, but I prefer ABBA's version

'En egen trädgård'
I really like it!

'Tack för en underbarn, vanlig dag'
I especially love this one. Somehow the positive side of that day before... :D The only problem is that I always expect the voice of a journalist at some point, because the first time I heard a piece of that song was in a radio report 1983 in a show called 'Europa-Magazin'.

'Gulleplutt'
mixed feelings, somehow cute vocals (especially in the English version), but it also gets on my nerves a bit

'Är du som han?'
nice and interesting, though the very first part reminds me of some English song

'Och han väntar pa mej'
ok, relaxing arrangement, but not much more

'Doktorn!'
reminds me of the Baccara style or so and I'm not very fond of it

'Mina ögon'
I actually prefer 'Disillusion' because music and vocals sound more emotional to me, but as I don't understand Swedish it maybe is a language thing

'Dom har glömt'
wonderful - especially live (just as 'Tack...')

'Var det med dej'
I like Agnetha's vocals which sound very powerful here and some interesting parts of the music which interrupt the easy flow, but the Na-na-na reminds me of some German schlager...

'Visa i åttonde månaden'
Just very nice. Schön!

I must admit i haven't thought much about the lyrics of most songs yet (thanks to Johnny for providing translations) although they usually are important to me.

drimnagh wrote: It's just a pity that Agnetha isn't inspired by some of her recent life experiences (both good and bad) to put pen to paper and compose some new songs about it!
Well, when she said 'No, I don’t compose much these days.' then this means she actually does (or at least did so in 2004). So there's always hope. ;-)

Yes, if there's anything I would critisize about Elva, it's the production. It's old fashioned and lacking.

Joe, you mentioned this in another topic as well and since I reacted there I will react here as also.
Do not forget that this was Agnetha's first producing effort. She was 24/25 at the time and was not as trained as 'Bennybjorn' who had already years of experience.
Furthermore were there many other acts in the 70's who produced typical 70's music. Bjorn and Benny stood out which is one of the reasons why ABBA is still popular these days.

drimnagh - 26.06.2008, 14:49

I know. Both topics concerned Elva so that's why I made my comments. Which I stick by.

Given that then, she did a a good job considering her inexperience and everyone has to start somewhere. Fast forward a million years to MCB and what a difference!

It's really quite charming to have Agnetha's development in our hands to see the difference thru the years.

J
Carribean - 26.06.2008, 20:12

Agnetha co-produced My Colouring Book and I really like that sound.
However I am not so fond of the production of the two albums she did with her children. But then again: they were made for children... lol!

WATERL00 - 26.06.2008, 20:35

I think the production of Elva is not that bad compared to other music from that time. Not only production-wise it's a huge departure from her previous work and it doesn't sound worse than e.g. several songs from the Ring Ring-album in 1973.
Carribean - 26.06.2008, 20:39

I agree!
Some of the songs on this album sound at least as good as some on Ring Ring and even Waterloo.
The production is not all that great but it surely is not bad at all.
drimnagh - 27.06.2008, 13:21

Of course the production isn't THAT bad! Just not that great.

Incidentally, those albums she did with her children...  :x

J
trayf - 27.06.2008, 18:57

I think the standard of production is really good. It's just very much of it's time and sounds quite dated now.

I really love hearing Agnetha singing in Swedish. I have no idea what she's singing about but it doesn't matter because the sound of her voice tells me all I need to know.
drimnagh - 28.06.2008, 11:50

Yes, it was good for it's time.

Maybe we'll look back in years to come and assess ABBA albums or MCB and say, ''Hmmm..sounds a bit dated..''

I think NOT!!!

J
Carribean - 01.07.2008, 17:45

Next song would be Vad det med dej but the song sadly hasn't been uploaded on YouTube yet. Too bad because Frida sings backing and gives the song a little ABBA feeling.
