MCB - Gotcha, Baby!
A thread for the Agnetha die-hards.

The Queen of Hearts is back again
And it's you she wants my friend

Did her comeback in 2004 and the release of "My Colouring Book" have a comparable impact on you as it had for me?

Judged from a retrospective it has been a full hit on me. An earthquake. A deja-vu. A return of an era. While I always had been a fan over all those years, my admiration had kind of cooled down meanwhile, with that lack of news from Ekerö.

Then MCB hit the shelves and when I got it it set me on fire again. All my memories from my teenage years returned as lively as if it had been yesterday. I listened to the new songs and felt how the lady did make my heart melt away as ever since. The Queen of Hearts was back and she still wore the crown.

Meanwhile 30 years older and in another millenium I sat down and created a fan website and became a member of the online fan community. When the abbasite forum was shot out of the sky I jumped in and created this forum. Without MCB we wouldn't be here at this place today.

What were your feelings in 2004? Did the album have a comparable huge impact on you? How do you feel about it four years later?

Edit: Corrected typos
drimnagh - 08.04.2008, 16:16

It had a huge effect on me and made me realise that no one would ever make me feel the way I do when I hear Agnetha's voice. Period.

:D nice to read your story Johnny! And you are right, without you (and Agnetha!), we wouldn't have this forum...

I remember that I was very excited when I heard the news of her new album. And I couldn't wait to buy it in the shop. Most of the time I wait to buy cd's when the prices are getting lower, but this time I paid the full price for it! It was sooo long ago that I could bought something new from HER!
I knew this cd was full with cover-songs, but luckily I didn't recognize them all (you must know that I don't like cover-versions at all  ...), so I could enjoy the songs she was singing on this brand new album. And, as I did in my teenage years, I read the lyrics while listening to her voice and learned them again (!) by head...

Yes, it brought back some memories from my childhood and it was nice to see some clips of her on television again. It suprised me that she was still a good looking woman.

But now I think it is time for some new material from her.

In 2004, I was not an ABBA fan. In 2005, I listened to the some songs on ABBAInter.net and I loved them. But it was not until early 2007 when I bought my copy of MCB, and today, it's one of my absolutely favourite albums :D
kitty-cat - 08.04.2008, 17:52

I'll never forget hearing If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind for the first time on Radio 2 (UK) My heart soared with excitement!! It was wonderful. I'd heard the rumours that she'd released another cd but I hadnt seen it advertised on the TV!! So the week of its official release I went and got it.. her voice still sounded as crystal clear as it did all those years ago!! It was a wonderful present from Agnetha for us fans, and I wish she'd do it again

Hi Johnny

It was Magic! I hadn't felt excited at the thought of an Album release, since the Last Agnetha solo's came out in the eighties and then previous to that, the Abba releases

I waited as patiently as anyone on here, but then on the day of the release I rushed up town, to (Woolworths) frightened that they may not have it? has this is a little one horse town, (Barry in Wales) compared to the city I come from (Plymouth in England). Anyway My luck was in and I brought it home and it went on the stereo

I have not felt that way for 17 odd years, about any album (rushing home to hear your favourite artist, I truly hadn't felt that excitement since my late teens, and I am now in my early fourties.

This lady has alway had a hold on my listening pleasure.. and continues to to this day

Agnetha still had what it takes. she could charm the birds out of the tree's with her voice

I was a little shocked at Past Present and future though, but loved it instantly!

It was all very exciting. I remember reading the official announcement made by Staffan Linde that Agnetha would indeed release a new album and that they were talking to record companies. Later on the news came that Warner Sweden would release tha album called My Colouring Book. The title of the single was also announced.

I could not believe it!!

Then in January 2004 the new Agnetha pics were all over the place and I was so very very thrilled to see some posed pics after so many years.

When I got the chance to hear 40 seconds of If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind on her yet to open website I was overwhelmed. Hearing Agnetha's voice after 17 years was just amazing and I was very moved. I listened to it over and over again and it remains one of my all time Agnetha faves.

Of course I heard all the previews through her site as well and it was very thrilling. I finally got the cd in May 2004 as a gift. It was a wonderful time to be an ABBA fan.

(I once made a topic about hearing If I ThoughT You'd Ever Change Your Mind for the first time. I will see if I can find it.)

During those barron years when we heard nothing knew from Agnetha,
She was still a massive part of my life, along with the rest of Abba.
So in someways it didnt feel like it had been 17yrs since her last album.

But still it had been 8yrs since Djupa Andetag had been released, and i had forgotten the excitement i felt everytime there was a new recording.

MCB wasnt any different, the news of the release and the release hit me like a tornado.

I just couldnt wait, to get my hands on a copy, I travelled to my local Asda at midnight, as that was the time they were going on sale.
When i got home i sat there for hours listening to the album over and over again, tears rolling down my face.

So MCB, didnt have the impact of rekindling my love, or having Agnetha in my life, because she had never left me.

But it certainly brought great happiness and excitement into my life again.

I knew about the release of MCB, but at that time there was absolutely NO chance for me to get it.

However, thanks to the net, I found out about the interview/ABBA weekend on VH1 and I waited all day long when that TV special with the interview with Agnetha will be shown. I had absolutely no idea at what time it was going to be aired, but I managed to tape IITYECYM, WYWITR and I think Past Present Future clips and I loved them very much.

I had announced on that day that nobody would watch anything on TV because I needed to tape the interview. Hubby, knowing I was a Frida nut, was immensely puzzled so he did not (dared not  ) complain. He wondered why I needed to tape it when it was not about Frida, but I said that did not really matter as Agnetha was ABBA, period.
I loved the interview and was determined to get MCB some time in the future. And I did, and I thank you, you know who you are! That is my favourite Agnetha solo album. :)

So my experience did not really date as of the very moment of MCB release due to reasons I did not have much influence on, but a few songs I heard at that time brought back excitement well known to me from the 70s.

I want new excitement! LOL

Johnny I couldn't believe it when I read the news I pre-ordered my Cd direct from Sweden.

I am not ashamed to admit when I first played the CD I did shed a tear. It was so wonderful to hear Agnetha's voice again after so long.

I play MCB a couple of times each week I love this Album To me every song is a strong one and they are done to perfection.

The Album Is a true favorite of mine and I still get the same thrill today each time I listen to it as I did when I first played it

It was a feeling of pure Exsitement :D I remember seeing in the paper the news Agnetha was about too launch a new album i was so shocked yet delighted you see at this time i did not have my own internet so i had no idea that Agnetha was about too release this album i had known there was talk and rumours but this was now confirmed :D The first time i listened too If i thought you'd ever change your mind i started too cry i was in my sister's house and a clip appeared on tv Agnetha in the white dress singing this beautiful ballad it was a surreal feeling i also remember i was so strangely overwhelmed with emotion,As soon as i could i bought the Album aswel as all the singles includeing the promo singles,I was also so exsited in seeing the interview from the documentory this was the first time i had seen Agnetha speak so openly and honest i loved this period in 2004-2005 i would say it actualy made me more interested in Agnetha as a person than i had previously been

I must admit I didn't believe Agnetha was going to release Another Album!
it wasn't until I heard the first single on the internet that I realized it was true. and it wasnt until I had the Album in my grubby little mitts, that it dawned on me, everything was true!
Joe - 14.04.2008, 21:34

ABBA and therefore Agnetha never had left me and at that time I already was riding on another personal ABBA wave again. 2004/2005 were exciting years anyway with the 30th anniversary of ESC, the "Waterloo" dvd and "The Last Video". "In Concert" was finally released and later topped by "The Movie".

And then there even was... She!

And there was her voice again!
So very much unique.
The voice which never really can be described, which only can be felt.
The voice which was thought to belong to the past and gone forever.

And there was the album -
somehow returning to her roots and yet so different, surprising.

Everything sensational enough for itself.

This kind of old-fashioned, romantic, melancholic, kitschy songs always had a place in my heart and Agnetha has hit this weak spot right into the center and deeper than I ever would have expected.

The wave had grown even higher and I'm still riding it.

Loved that, Joe. Pretty much tells my feelings as well.

Here's the inside of my office door, btw:

I thought for a respected scientist it would be a little bit over the top to exhibit BRAVO posters from the seventies, but this thing passes as acceptable. :rotfl:

I should send it to her in a role and kindly ask her to sign it with a dedication.
Angeleyes - 16.04.2008, 12:55

:blob1: I have that poster too: in a role at my attic... unsigned...

Great, Johnny, it even matches the colours of the door!
