I have e-maild Carl Magnus Palm.....
After reading some interesting post on this forum about ABBA tour In Sweden in 197/5 I decided to e-mail Carl Magnus Palm and see what his thoughts would be on putting a Book together a Book celebrating this particular part of ABBA's career.

Since there I believe was no actual footage shot by Television, I could be wrong and because there seems to be so many Pictures out there, I though't it would be nice to have something like this in a Photo Book. For Historical reasons as well.

After All many thousands of People went to see ABBA perform.

I'll let you all know If And when I get some feedback.

To be honest, before such a book is being released, we get Just Like That first.
Although ABBA is quite a hit even today, no one would ever produce a book about a tour that nearly no one remembers.
I doubt there are really so much high quality fotos available and I doubt there is so much information there either.
I mean until today it was not possible to create a proper track-list of these concerts, all we have is the one from Eskilstuna but only since there is a bootleg-recording.
But nothing is known about earlier concerts when Hey, hey Helen, So Long and so on weren't written yet.

We all can be happy if there will be a proper live-album one day, since at least full recordings from both 1977 and 1979 exist. But we will never get a book about a small tour by a group that has split up 25 years ago.

BY the way, I'd prefer a book about the pre- and post-ABBA time since there would be so much to write about the boys' and girls' solo-career before ABBA as well as the projects afterwards just as Chess, Kristina, Something's Going On, My Colouring Book. But a book like this won't probably be printed either.

Great idea Debbie!

You just have to tell us what he answers! :D

I would love to see a special tour book released of all the tours but especially '75 and '77 - where they really seemed to be enjoying being on stage. :D

I agree very much!

A book about the careers before and after ABBA would be very very wonderful. But a book about the few concerts ABBA did will not be very interesting since ABBA never was a true live act.
I would prefer to read about the tours in the booklet of the double live cd... lol!

Either way: interesting to hear what CMP has to say...

Debbie, I don't expect much by an answer, but thank you! There's nothing wrong with spreading ideas.

WATERL00 wrote: I doubt there are really so much high quality fotos available and I doubt there is so much information there either.
Actually just as I said: the lack of information is probably the best reason to finally do some research! Obviously nobody in the ABBA circle has cared about that much until today. I'm sure there are more facts and stories to collect from ABBA, musicians, managers, journalists and so on.

And photos? Most of the photos circulating on the net aren't fan photos. Every professional photographer or even papers have an archive with negatives of known, varied or completely unpublished photos - in concert or backstage. And who says that such a book must be something like the big Heilemann book anyway? (Hm, who bought that one? Hold on, let me think for a minute... ;-) ) I wouldn't mind if there was such a book about all ABBA tours including 500 pictures or so...

Who is interested in the existing photo book or dvd about a woman called Frida who's only known to wider public by once being part of the same group? Who's interested in ABBA's old TV appearances, who's interested in a little book called "The Complete Guide Their Music" (even got translated) when most facts are available online, who will buy the Dutch release of the Agnetha book or the announced Swedish book with ABBA statements or any other general ABBA book getting released each year? None of them is a "Harry Potter"!

There's so much stuff getting released about any topic, quality and rubbish, I don't know any reason why an ABBA tour book should have less commercial chances.

Carribean wrote: I would prefer to read about the tours in the booklet of the double live cd... lol!
Really? Why? ABBA never was a true live act. ;-)
And 5 small pictures printed on thin paper in a small booklet which definately won't include any new information?

For any "new" piece of music getting released you need B&B's ok. You really think this is easier to get???

I doubt that Carl would be interested in such a project as he really doesn't create "photo books". But I would be interested in what his response might be. (If you get one ... :D )

Still :excited: about it!

There are a few excellent pictures in the Bubi book but I also think they could be found on the net. Maybe he has more of these pictures in his archive..

Some of you guys have stated valid points about how this idea can't be realised as well as that CMP wouldn't be interested in making a photo book - and you might be right, in fact.

I would still like both - the 1975 concerts photo book (and earlier venues, why not - Folkparks) and the double live cd. A blessing for both eyes and ears.

Well guys as yet No answer But I put a few other suggestions to Carl as well particularly focusing On the early careers and up to today of all the members of ABBA.

So lets all wait and see.

Debbie

Anyway there is no harm in asking!

Re: I have e-maild Carl Magnus Palm.....

lemmon - 06.09.2007, 09:08

It isn't commercial; so I don't think it will happen.

Re: I have e-maild Carl Magnus Palm.....

Visitor1982 - 06.09.2007, 20:30

No harm in asking, but I don't think this will happen. Wouldn't buy it either if it came out... Not interested in photo's from that period (I'm a real 1980/1982 fan, after the divorces their photo's became much more interesting to me), but I wouldn't mind releasing a live album from 1975... But a full 1979 Wembley concert was planned to be released by Universal around this time I believe... It probably got vetoed by B&B (or perhaps Agnetha who didn't want I'm Still Alive to appear on a 2 CD-set?).

I wonder if Agnetha is really aare of that song today since it was never played anywhere after 1980. I can't believe she has any problems with releasing it.
I remember that it were in fact Benny and Björn who were not happy with such a release since the recordings should be rather bad in terms of singing etc. They used them though to mix the 5.1-sound for the In Concert-DVD. And this sounds perfectly okay to my ears.

Agnetha & Frida had to okay the boxset in 1994. All four members have to okay a release that includes previously unreleased material. I'm Still Alive was never released officially, so Agnetha has to okay it. Not only because she wrote the music to that one, but also because she is the main performer.

I can't see why she should veto a release of ISA.

You're right about the box-set but I wonder in how far this okay was really needed. I think it was rather a nice gesture. I mean it is obviously Benny and Björn who can decide over releases.
I mean in case both Agnetha and Frida would agree on releasing Just Like That and Benny and Björn say no - what happens then? It stays in the vauls, otherwise we would already have it.

I read in The Complete Recording Sessions that Agnetha in particular loved the song and she hoped it would be released some day.

If Agnetha & Frida would say no to Just Like That and B&B would agree I do believe JLT would remain in the vaults as well.

You're right there Ivanna Both the girls in fact like Just Like That, I read years ago somewhere where Frida also wanted the Track to be released one day.

Recieved a reply from CMP
Just to let you all know I recieved a lovely reply from Carl Magnus Palm tonight.

I passed on the suggestions made by many here regarding Books Etc
Especially on the early careers of Agnetha, Frida and Bjorn, Benny up to today.

Also a Book covering ABBA's Tours Early in Sweden's Folk Parks, 1977,1979 & 1980 Tours.

Carl told me these projects are constantly in the back of his mind But with his work load it's finding time to put them together.

SO May be one day.

Well I'm Happy
