well yes they did, here's what I can remember anyway:

Super Trouper
The Visitors
The Singles, First 10 Years
Thank you for the Music - Collection of Love Songs (Not released on CD yet!)

and all the singles released from each of these albums (on 7' vinyl, not CD)
Actually, come to think of None have been released on CD, Ive just realised The albums were released later on the Polydor label.

No, I don't think EPIC ever did. I believe the initial releases were compilations on labels like Pickwick & Castle.

According to the book 'ABBA Gold' by John Tobler, several ABBA albums were released on CD in the UK by Epic:
-The Visitors (March 1983);
-Super Trouper & Greatest Hits (May 1983);
-The Singles (September 1983);
-Arrival, The Album & Voulez-vous (November 1984).

Early UK CDs
Using Visitors as an example the first CD I have was "Printed in West Germany by" and "CD is manufactured by PolyGram in Hannover" and is on the blue Polar label. In this case they have added a black sticker "CD 10032" over the POLCD 342 number. By the way it cost me £11.95! The other albums were similar although some omitted the sticker.

The second version I have was a Japanese import on Polydor. Both have a copyright date of 1981.

The reference to others, such as Castle and Pickwick, were budget labels that put out compilations rather than the official albums.

fyi - it should possibly read Greatest Hits Vol 2 since initially Greatest Hits [Vol 1] came out in a US long box on Atlantic (can't speak for other countries) but didn't come out in the UK.

Also there was the Abba-Live CD as an official release about that time (1986).

The first appearance of LIVE & Ring Ring was on the Castle release 'ABBA The Collection Vol. 2' The other CD's may have been available, but they were most likely Polydor Germany imports.

I'm sure Ian Cole will sort all of this out.

I concur with what Charlie has said.

The first CD I ever got was The Visitors, just as Charlie described it - the 1983 blue label Polar CD, manufactured by PolyGram in West Germany, with the black sticker on the spine with the Epic catalogue number (but I peeled off the sticker many years ago). I recall seeing some others in a similar state.

PolyGram manufactured all the early ABBA CDs for the world, when there were only 2 CD plants(1983/84) - PolyGram's, and Sony's in Japan. Even the first Atlantic CDs released in America were manufactured by PolyGram (later copies were actually manufactured in the USA).

CDs in UK - 1980s
Just to expand on what Iancee correctly said, Epic UK actually did quite a big promotional push on Abba / Abba-related CDs around 1984/85...this included listing the availibility of CD albums such as 'Greatest Hits vol 2', 'The Visitors', 'The Singles - The First Ten Years', 'Wrap Your Arms Around Me' and 'Something's Going On' on inserts that went into other artists' CDs....

So, even though the CDs themselves had the Polydor or the Polar logo, there was clearly some liscensing benefit for Epic in terms of UK sales. Plus they gave the CDs the stickers that Iancee referred to, and an Epic catalogue number.

Along with the release of 'Eyes Of A Woman' and its singles, it was probably one of the last Abba-related areas of work for Epic. I guess they must have realised their Abba association was coming to an end, since they never even gave Agnetha's 'One Way Love' a picture sleeve and did not promote it at all.

CDs
Hey well done Jack, that is good going, I lost all of my original CDs (apart from 'GHV2') in a house move that went wrong !

But I am very happy with my set of 2001 re-masters - the only problem was that I was collecting the digipak ones, and the European ones were so limited I could not find 2 of them ('Arrival' and 'The Album'). So I had to get the American equivalents for those (shiny surface rather than matt ones, slightly different markings etc....).

cheers

The unremastered CDs sound great. I have "Arrival" & "The Visitors" which both sound - especially "The Visitors" - fantastic IMO :D
