    purples all time greats.
Hi. For those new ones that don'tknow me,I am purplesnake and have been playing for a long time on and off a2. In a game which I think you can split the good players into 4 distinct generations I amgoing to bring you a brief history into a2 as well as what I regard the greatest 1/2 generation players to be.

Let me start by saying me and triple were in TOL together and he has shown me alot of respect in regards to both ability an development of his skills. Triple like myself has a tremendous sense of honour and morality when it comes to correctness in armada 2.
    Rise and Fall of Purplesnake.

The first chapter is me bigging up myself with my clan history.
I started out in SFC known as [SFC]purplesnake. SFC was a big devoted star trek gaming clan and spanned over several games. After starting out as a easy pickings player, I gradually started to make my mark on the clan.It was not an easy task though.I first became known as the 8472 specialist at that time, mainly due to the discovery of the full fleet cruiser rush. Common practice at that time was to either mass destroyers from single or do the 8 cruiser rush. The full fleet rush enabled you to take unexpecting people by surprise quick and fast.Mass turreting was not as prominant in those days the oldies more dominated by more offensive approaches to the game so it worked a treat.

Altohugh hardly enough to call myself a big time player I made contacts both in the dominion and sod. Those two clans were in the top 3 biggest clans of that time without a doubt.
Ist generation top 3 in no order
    Sentries of death
    Dominion
    Iron fist.
The SFC-- Dominion war was big and WE AT SFC had no chance against DOMINIONS top heavy legendry muscle. Johnny or psyche some know him as was impressed with skills and shared some of his dominion expertise with me as a show of kindness. This was what I needed in order to progress myself with other races.SFC Undertaker devised a new 1v1 map on my request called 1v1 sfc style. This map eventually rivalled death snare as the number 1 1v1 map. I joined sod for a short time and added to my experience before joining DOMINION. This is where my reputation eventually became to its peak. The dominion was headed by a guy called The founder who widely renouned as in the top 5 players in a2 at that time. I improved gradually by practice as 1v1s versus the best players were giving me merorable experiences. Saber from SOD was cool aswell.

    Top 1st generation players
    [A]Snakebiteme
    IF LOTUS
    IF DJ
    DOMINION THE FOUNDER
    DOMINION JOHNNY
    SOD Rehban
    SOD SUP-----just for the map.....
    SOD LORD *****.
    SOD SABER
    Tom Cain
blauberre or blueberry he likes to be called.
    TOL Steam Iron

There are great players missed out there but one of them im putting as 2nd generation just because thats where he really was apart from the field..The era when I became widely known as top 10 active non german in the a2 game was when I was working on counter strategies to the double sy sartan, bop, shrike and scout rushes. for a short time it was just like fire with fire rush or be rushed. In came the counters for the double sy which I expertly demoonstrated on one of the top players. I made a rival for myself a person who called himself riker. We became kinda clicky as we battled plenty of times with games lasting an eternity in most cases. At this time alot of the old greats had retired and it was time for fresher blood to come through to the front of the crowd. My defensive counter striker technique had passed the test and I thrived mixing the defensive acquirements and previously ackuired attacking elements of earlier days.
2nd Generation best players in no order

    11th fleet Riker--although is a 1st gen player.
    NDO Torment.
    TOL DEATH.
    TOL COMMANCHE.
DSA-BLACKTHORN X SOD AFTER THE CIVIL WAR
DSA PAYNE X SOD AFTER THE CIVIL WAR.
    TOL VEGETA.
Iron Fist I FORGOT HIS NAME...please help.big double rusher.
Iron Fist I forgot his name....
DOM PURPLESNAKE[TB]....only the noobs will laugh.
THERE WILL BE OTHERS BUT MY MEMORY IS NOT GREAT.
    apologies.
Shortly after this in between this and the arrival of 3rd gen players I left dominion just before the closure and attempted to create a great clan comprised of some of the best players in the a2 game. Called OSA. Me,snakebiteme,Riker and other high profile players came together to create an uber powerfull clan called the old school alliance. Members in 11th were especially pissed with losing their admiral and worked on destroying the foundations of the clan. The clan only lasted less than 2 weeks but while it was active no one could touch us at that time. DOMINION disbanded,if were reduced to 2 active players and quite a lot of big clans disappeared shortly before the arival of the latest noobs..

Heres something they didnt tell ya.

The two IF you may have been thinking of could have been Seldarine and INTERCEPTER.

It is kind of weird to think that, after DOM and IF disbanded, almost all the big clans, like NDO, DSA, TOL, 11th, alot of them dissappeared. It was something that kind of happened all at once.

Thanks purplesnake, a good interesting read. Especiallly for all those newer players, who are interested in Armada 2 history. I would like it if you do a part 2, telling us about the [TOL] era.

Its interesting who were the best players when armada was at its prime. I dont agree with players that are stating that they are now the best. Now, after so many good players left.

And yes I owe you much, because you got me into this whole clan thing, by recruiting me for [TOL]. And of course by training me, as did [TOL] soldier too.

Yea your story shows one thing: Its hard to keep a clan alive. In [DD] I had a huge advantage right from the start. I was not alone, having my long time friend keeper on my side. So we could easily build a clan around us two, by recruiting loyal people like saltok, tokabora or nuke.

    Anyway purplesnake,
I hope you continue to participate on the forums.

    Welcome mate.

Yea TOL have been around a very long time. In the early era where bragging and flaming was prominent,TOL weren't as harsh on the noobs.
I can;t think of a clan that has so many different players and multiple figure heads through the eras. The first official boos that I remember was called TOL Another world.Me were him in contact when re appeared long after he had retired from the game.
    Old TOL

    TOL Another world
    TOL Tornmorbid
    TOL Deany
    TOL Guinea pig
    TOL Steam Iron

And Other players I had less contact with.

I knew steam, torn and aw from early in the game.We werent on the same team but I in those days but I respected steam highly for his discovery of new techniques and builds and witty(although sometimes sick) sense of humour. He was some player. It started to go downhill for some of the old TOL after TOL civil war number 1. To cut a story short TOL ended splitting into 2 factions. TOL and TIE. The head of TIE was steam iron who was vital if TIE were going to last in the game.
With Steam irons loyal followers TIE overtook TOL in terms of both skill and commercialism. I played alot of games against TIE and TOL I spent time away from the game so dont know the full ins and outs but I know that steam eventually stayed away from clans after the decline of the TIE. TOL rose for another time under new management as a new generation were about to come through. I played plenty of 1v1s vs death in his early days on 1v1 sfc style. I watched him go from strength to strength and become the new talisman of TOL. IF were still going pretty strong at this time, they had outlasted SOD. Others did well there like commanche and others. This was still a time for big clan battles, mainly 3v3 as those 14k peeps still existed. I joined TOL for a short time after I returned to real life for a while after I escaped out of the back door of the OSA saga. Different people have taken the responsibility since Death and comms exit.

I dont remember the full story but I ended up going to tol when i returned. X Dominion member Talon who had been with me through end of dom and OSA had decided to help rebuild TOL as i think people had decided to leave or retire. my memory is hazy I dont know how it played out. I know veggie and later mcd had alot of involvment and i later returned to tol. I joined pro for a while for a while whilst TOL was Dead and joined up with people like crow, riker, and some x 11th and returning peeps. pro was probably my last clan where I had a decent playing rep.I got on with crow who always shows me alot of respect. I knew others from a long time too.People who I had seen in their noob days but they never would admit it.Only person I well say a bad word about on this forum on this forum is pro.paris. Which started my idea to re produce TOLS old glory is the reason i joined tol once again.
The bad word is unclefucker.Or is that 2
big up-pro teh riker, crow and loyal teh followers.slag.

I also tried to rebuild dom once with lord steven and some other guys. Steven has hardly spoke to me since but ive had plenty of team games. Members blamed him for the split. He has been clanless ever since.
Im going to step down from TOL soon. I was keeping it warm for the return that clearly will not happen. Im notan ancient tol player but an ancient friend of tol and it might be time to relinquish the tag. After all i dont play as much as i used to and feel its time to let lie. I have no hard feelings about anything on this game.after all its a game and here to enjoy..

big up richmond who helped keep tol on the map. .

Im never sitting on his wall.

Were Seld and INTER the two IF you were missing or not? I'm pretty sure they were, because I know Seld was a big double rusher anyways.

    Re: purples all time greats.

    purplesnake - 30.08.2007, 09:55

Yea thanks demon. Selderine did become a very good player. I wasnt playing alot of the game during selderines peak but yes he was one of the ones I was thinking of. Other IF were around like Tiger also. Inter deserves to be there defo yes. Others like Vader in dsa i forgot to mention also.
You have been playing a long time aswell demon but I dont think we played alot of games together. Are you the X NDO DEMON?

    Re: purples all time greats.

    [DD]Trip - 30.08.2007, 10:46

I think there are / were two top players called demon.

And maybe [IF] Ithane should be in the all time "non - german" greatest list too, which of course can never be complete.

I want to add when I joined [TOL] it was early summer 2005 (I guess). The lineup I was in was:
Purplesnake, Monitor, Soldier, Richmond, Veggie, Keeper, Hawke (aka Rapid), Moses, McD, Eraser and Soul Collector.
Many of thoses players were at their prime. I cannot imagine ever seeing a clan including my own clan [DD] having so many top players at once. I mean some clans have eventually 3 - 4 top players, but who has around 10?
I think it was the last golden age of [TOL].

Keeper and I didnt like the way 2 persons treated us, so we left [TOL] and started our own clan. Obviously the dream line up fell apart at a later point in time.

There were countless attempts to restart [TOL], people like Mason, Longman or E - Man got recruited, but it never lasted long. At one point in time I sacrificed even my own clan, rejoined [TOL] and convinced my clan members Tokabora, Sparks and Keeper to join [TOL] too.

The timing was bad because the multiclanning, namechanging, clanhopping issues were now overhelming. A group of people had one week [TOL] tags another week the tags of another clan. Over and over again.
We had 2 websites with different memberlists, changing leaders, so keeper and I left, this time forever.

At the end of the day and eventually after some back and forth Soldier did his own clan. Richmond, Rapid, Veggie and McD joined [ACH]. Moses and Eraser did their own clan, which didnt last long. Soul Collector joined TAO. Monitor retired.

Then came 2006, which was a bad year for armada 2 in my mind.
[-RF-] had new recruits almost everyday, which didnt stay long due to the lack of training in [-RF-].
The now dead [TF] got popular.
German clans like NBK, SFU, STW, RKO died.

It was totally impossible to recruit new players for [DD] in 2006 and maybe for the same reason for [TOL]:

The new founded clan called [IBKW].

I had some friends like Adragoncat, Fragger, Baby Boy, Kill 'em All or Crossbones. They always told me: "Triple I dont do clans, but if I do it would be yours."
Once [IBKW] started the phrase changed to "Sorry triple, but I have an offer from Bear".

Ironically I played some of them this year 1 on 1 and found out the didnt learn anything in [IBKW].

Still it was tragic for [DD], because instead of having "friends" in the clan I could help devolping their skills, I had to give notorious clanhoppers, namechangers, multiclanners a chance to keep [DD] alive in 2007. But as time went by, trustworthy people joined too, so we didnt rely on the disloyal people any longer. Which I all kicked, finding them multiclanning, Clan Hopping, Namechanging. Or they hopped away on their own - like a bunny.

Thanks for that trip.Yea a few names I had forgot to mention there who were also important to tol in later days.. Soulcollector, eraser, moses who were loyal to tol through thick and thin.Monitor had been with me in dom and osa. mcd and veggie also added an extra year to tols expiry date when they attempted to rebuild the clan at one time. I apologise for any offence caused, I did spend alot of time away from the game when other people were working hard with tol. I am unsure about certain eras.
In terms of loyalty and length of time in tol. Eraser is is one of the only people who been in tol from quite an early day through to the late days without leaving and then later returning. He was an unsung hero and did deserve more credibility as his honour more than made up for his weaker playing skills. I have returned to an empty clan and am soon to leave TOL, but the legend of anotherworlds TOL will live forever. Thankyou Triple.Keeper In DD.

I bet it was you candyman own up. :D jk.

The kids will never be the same again.

The cool thing about [TOL] was - and I tried to redo in [DD] - was building up / training players.
I try to sustain this [TOL] spirit with [DD] as good as I can.

I always tried to help my people as good as I can to get better, while asking even more experienced people like Lord Steven or those fellas from [_DBW_] for help to train me or our people.

This way, I think [TOL] differed from all those clans that eventually got more popular my spam recruiting, but not caring for / training their people. Thoses poor souls lost obviously their interest in clans and armada 2 in general.

    Demon - 31.08.2007, 08:17

Yeah, I'm [NDO]FAdm-Demon. I miss the old days, it's nothing compared to how the game of A2 is today.

    Re: purples all time greats.

    [DD]Trip - 02.09.2007, 07:52

    @ demon

The situation is bad for several reasons.

One of the reasons is that A2 is an old game.

Another reason is the popularity of some clans that are unable or unwilling to help their players, which they "spam - recruited".

Of course its not only a clans fault, but a players fault as well. I saw someone in the lobby for some weeks. So I offered him to join us.
    Lets call him Mr. Attitude.

After playing him 1 on 1, I told him he has much to learn. He was like wtf training? He didnt even wanted to be trained and stated that armada 2 is dead, so theres no point for training is his mind.

    Well he checked our website.
Not beeing interested in training, he demanded a website that is more fanzy.
Well for some people a clan is about a fanzy website. Not the people. Not the will to get better. So after some lols and rofls from him, I took my offer back. Because I want only quality members for [DD]. And I can assure you Mr. Attitude is not an exception.

Another time I saw some self styled old school player, that would eventually join us. I was like lets play 1 on 1 for ranks, training etc.
He didnt want the 1 on 1, because in his mind a clan is about fun, and not challenges or tryouts.

    @ purplesnake

I think Eraser got pretty good in my mind at some point in time.
Especially at the time when he appeared with the nick "noob pwnzor".
