    What about a C:\TEMP\ directory???
Does anybody of you know if there is an existing doc or hint that a player has to create a dir named C:\TEMP\?

I've never seen such an info before... and the so-called expert-group of beta testers haven't talked very much about it in the years before (I've checked it via google newsgroups)... also a NON-reader of this newsgroups hasn't any chance to know this worthy hint. BAD!

So (Tim's Opinion and some other newsgroup highnesses) we players just have to create a dir named C:\TEMP\ for unpacking a RST file. Hmmm... why there is no standard C:\TEMP\ dir on just installed Windows 2000 and XP systems? And why the hell there exists a C:\WINDOWS\TEMP or C:\WINNT\TEMP on such systems? And why is there also a user temp dir for each user?

But the biggest question is: why has Planets 4 an OWN subdir named TEMP? Maybe you can explain it... :?:

(I cannot!   )

VP4 tries to write into c:\temp, C:\windows\temp or C:\winnt\temp. It must have the right permissions for the player to write into this folders. I had problems when hosting testgames without setting the right permissions.

The qzip utility, (his dll) must have acces to one of these dirctories!
All other stuff is done by using the temp in the planets directory.

I know that. I've reviewed many web pages yesterday (including the newsgroup).

But I asked for a reason... why is there a <drive:>\<Planets4 dir>\TEMP? Why should I need several TEMP dirs on a drive, too? :?:

I cannot understand this programming style. It's totally confusing. And the player gets no hint when installing Planets 4 onto harddisk that he also has to check for the existing TEMP dirs above...

BTW Win 2k and XP hasn't a temp dir like C:\TEMP\ when just installed. Only DOS and maybe older Win versions. It's annoying when a player has to read the newsgroup for possible problems and errors.
