Connecting to WorldChat via mIRC v2.1
First things first. Get mIRC, install it, then run it!
Setting It Up
When you first open up mIRC, the mIRC Options Window should open up. If it didn't, click the button that looks like a folder with a hammer.
In mIRC Options, Connect should be highlighted on the left of the window (If not, highlight it!). Fill in the information.
Here is some info on all the options that you see in Connect:
-Full Name doesn't need your full name or you name at all. Just put what you want in there.
-You don't have to put your real email address there unless you want to. The email address is not shown to the users, only IRCops can get it.
-For Nickname, put the nickname that you want. It cannot contain spaces!
-Alternative is just a Second nickname to go with incase the nickname you chose is being used. It cannot contain spaces either!
-Invisible Mode just hides you incase someone has you in their identify list.
After you have all the info filled out, we create the server connection info. ^_^
Click on Servers (It's on the left of the window, below Connect). This will bring up new options.
Click the Add button to get the Add Server window to pop up.
Here is the info that you should enter:
Description: Mindforge (You can give it a different description, but it's best to give it a Description that you will remember)
IRC Server: irc.mindforge.org
Port(s): 6667
Group: Mindforge (I would name it Mindforge, but it's up to you)
Password: This will be usful for when you register your Nickname, which I'll explain in another tutorial. If your nick is not registered, leave this blank.
Then click add!
IRC Network and Server should have changed to Mindforge (Unless you choose something else for Description and Group).
Now all you have to do is click Connect to Server and you're on your way. ^_^
Joining a Channel
Ok, once you click that Connect to Sever button, the mIRC Options window will close and you will see a buch of text appear in the window. This spacific window is called the Server Status Window.
To join a channel, just type /j ChannelNameHere.
For example, if you want to join WorldChat, you would type:
/j WorldChat
And hit the Enter key.
Here are some other ways to join a channel:
/join #ChannelNameHere
/j #ChannelNameHere
If you just want to chat and learn more about mIRC, join WorldChat.
Now that you've connected to the server, it's time to learn some commands (Which I have yet to write a tutorial for)!
Perform
Have you ever wanted mIRC to do stuff once you connect to the server? I dunno about you, but I don't like to type all the commands to join channels, and then, some channels require that you enter a password to use certain commands. There is an easier way....Perform!!!!!!!!!!!!
Open up mIRC. Open up Options (If it isn't already opened...). Highlight "Options" under "Connect". See that button that says "Perform"? Click it.
A new Window should popup named "Perform". In that Window, make sure that "Enable perform on connect" is checked. Now, click "Add" to make, yet, another Window popup with the name "Networks". Select "Mindforge" (Or whatever you named the server) and click "OK". That Window will close and take you back to the "Perform" Window. With "Mindforge" selected in "Network", place any commands that you would like mIRC to do on connect. For example, if you want to join WorldChat on connect, just place "/join #worldchat" (Without the quotes) into "Perform commands".
After you add all of your commands, click "OK". Then connect to the server to see if the commands work. If they don't work, you fucked up somewhere...most likly lol. Go back through the steps and see if it fixes it, if not, make a post.
