Hi!
On a recent trip to Sweden, Ï bought some compilation CD's with Agnetha, Frida, Hep Stars and Hootenanny.
I already had all the songs, I just bought the CD's because I'm an ABBA maniac, and I didn't have those excact CD's in my collection.. :oops:

The Agnetha CD's called "Agnetha Fältskogs Svensktoppar", and it's from a series of compilation CD's called "Blå Gula Toner" ( Blue Yellow tones ) Having a closer look at it I noticed that the last track, track 17, was called "Sången Föder Dig tillbaka" ( The song makes you reborn.. ).

It's from 1971, and written by Agnetha, with lyrics by B. Carlsson. A lovely song, too.
The thing is, I've never heard of it! I thought I knew all her songs! I looked through the Agnetha box, couldn't find it there either.
So, I wonder, do you know this song?

The track is actually taken from her 1971 album, "När en vacker tanke blir en sång" (When a lovely thought becomes a song).

Geir, it IS in the Agnetha boxset. The "vacker tanke" album definitely is a part of it.

Agnetha faltskog svensktopper is a nice album, similar to tio Ar Med but with this added song, which is also one of my favourites.

Thanks folks! I'm really ashamed of myself now.....I looked through my box 2 times, and couldn't find it...
But, indeed, it's a good song, and Agnetha's voice is so powerful and clear in it! Of course, I play it everyday now, as it's "new" to me.. :lol:

Nice slide show Johnny, and although I've been to your site, I haven't watched it before. :applause:

It's a good complement to the '77 tour thread running now, but it's a wee bit slanted toward the blonde one, :wink: FYI, all four of them were on the tour. :lol:

It's actually föder, the swedish language doesn't know the ø ;) (I read now you come from Norway so you probably know that :D)

Now i'm wondering, does the title means 'the song makes you reborn' as you say in the opening post or does it mean 'the song takes you back' (in time perhaps)?

Good question. I had the "newborn" interpretation in my translation too. But for the "Vacker tanke" album I had a professional translator as a help who revised my drafts and she changed it to "The song which takes you back".

I definitely trusted her more than myself, so I changed it. Now I see Geir use the same translation as my original one.

I'm puzzled. I see that "take back" probably would have to be "att föra tillbaka", i.e. "Sången för dig tillbaka". But I also think that "to give birth" - att föda - doesn't seem to mean "newborn" to me in connection with "tillbaka" ("back"). "Newborn" rather would be something like "nyfödd" or passive form "to be newborn": "nyfödds" to me.

Any Swede out there who can solve this for us?

If i translate it into dutch, and swedish and dutch are simular, i would say 'the song takes you back'.. but i am no swede either :D

"Blauwbloempje", you're right about the ø / ö. We Norwegians use ø and the Swedes ö. šThe pronounsation is the same, though.
I'm no expert in Swedish, but feel I understand it rather well. The title of this song strikes me as a little odd, but directly translated, it means : The song makes you reborn ( or : the song makes you born again ) Like Johnny sais : "Takes You Back" would be "Föra tillbaka" and not "föda".

I'm pretty sure it's an expression ment to be read "between the words", though.
The lyrics of the song is about love that once were. It doesn't say if it's because "he" is dead, or in love with someone else. Anyhow, the song makes her see him in front of her again, like in a dream. So, in that sense, I guess we can say both that "he" förs tillbaka or föds tillbaka.

Oh, maybe I'm confusing you all even more, now :?

Oh, this song is really lovely, one of my favourit tracks from that album.
It has a great melody and Agnetha's vocals are stunning.

When it comes to the lyrics, Bosse Carlsson was very poetic when it comes to the lyrics as the whole Elva kvinnor album shows. So probably he used this rather spiritual expression simply because it fitted to his style of writing.
And on top of that you don't have to be dead to get reborn. Rebirth is aslo used as a notion to express a change in live, that someone got a better person, a better version of his- or herself. Maybe this is what little Aggy sings about ;)

He - he, you're right, "Waterloo", I actually feel kind of "reborn" everytime I hear that woman sing! :D

Many thanks Geir for drawing my attention to this beautiful song. I confess that when I first got the boxset my first priority was to listen to "Elva Kvinnor i ett hus" and the "bonus" disk I must have skipped the "När en vacker tanke blir en sång" album by accident. :oops:

The song is the middle song of a little triumvirat consisting of tracks 9-11 of the "Vacker tanke" album. I often have those three in the repeat loop i.e. "Kanske var min kind lite het", "Sången föder dig tillbaka" and "Tågen kan gå igen".

Very lovely songs.

Well, "Waterloo", only seventeen for two more days, I hope you're having the time of your life!

Johnny, indeed those songs are special! Agnetha sings them with so much power and emotion! And, working as a train conductor, I'm really glad she sings "Tågen kan gå igän" ( The trains can start going again )

And, I've got a weakness for the cute "Tio mil kvar till Korpilombolo", too, where she's on the train, asking the conductor if it's a long way left for Korpilombolo... ( yes, there is a place in Sweden with that name.. )

Tio mil kvar till Korpilombolo is also a very lovely track with very cute lyrics while the English ones could be improved here and there - but who cares as long Agnetha is singing. However I prefer the string arrangement of the English version since those instruments are more prominet here and I really love stings ;)

Oh, and I'm a railroad-fan, too but this is a far too expensive hobby so I stopped extending my model-railroad-collection which is now waiting to be sold some day (or to be discovered and used again).

Yeah, that was really good. I whish I could speak your language (I never really understood how to call it right - bokmål or nynorsk - whatever the difference between these two is) or at least swedish as well as you know about german.

Hi, Waterloo, and I guess by now your 18, congratulations! I'm off topic now, but thanks for your kind words. I had German at school, but didn't learn to much. I learned more by watching "Derrick" on TV, and reading "Bravo", hehe.
I'll explain shortly about Norwegian:We have a lot of dialects in this country, as I'm sure you have in Germany, too. But, we all understand eachother, and speak Norwegian. Or, as we say : Norsk. In older times our language was simular to the language they speak in Iceland today. Our modern Norwegian is basicly Danish, but with a very different pronounsation. The "bokmål" is the basic Norwegian of today, and spoken around the Oslo area. And used by 90% of the Norwegians as a written language. A little more than 100 years ago, there was a protest movement, claiming that "bokmål" was Danish, and they released the "nynorsk", based on some Norwegian dialects. Finally, both bokmål and nynorsk was decleared official languages. And, all pupils at school has to learn both. I can tell you, it's not popular...

I'm sorry again, from going off topic, but hopefully some of you might find this a little interesting..??

Very interesting. I learned something there and that makes it a good topic.

So if all Norwegian students must learn bokmål and nynorsk, when do they learn English? Plus, they surely travel the continent, so they probably learn some French and Italian too. That is, neither bokmål or nynorsk will work broadly, so Norwegians (Swedes too) must increase their language skills.

Americans are spoiled and lose out culturally, because of the wide use of English. Isn't English the language of business all over Europe? 8)

I'm essentially on topic, because I'm listening to Sången Föder Dig Tillbaka while I type. I've switched to Tio Mil Kvar Till Korpilombolo now. These songs are too short - or I type too slow. I'll be forced to listen to more. :D

I dont know this song Sangen folder dig tillabaka as i have not got the Agnetha boxset yet :oops: it is on my wish list,I do however have Tio mil kvar Till Korpilombolo and i have to say it is truly one of the most beutiful songs i have heared in a long time,I love Agnetha's vocals on this song i just had to add this to this thread!

Hi, Johnsteven, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying "Tio mil... ", and I promise you, you'll love "Sången Föder.." when you get it. Hurry and get the box, I think it's available at a low price by now.

"Platobird", what a great idea, "Sången föder.." is playing at my CD player right now, which means I'm not off topic, hehe.
About languages, we start our English education in the third or fourth grade at school, which means 6 years of English for all pupils, and 3 more years for the majority continuing at school after that.
From the seventh or eight grade, you start on an optional new language, usually German, French or Spanish.

As you mention, English is the official business and computer language, but most important, I think : the most common entertainment language. In Norway we usually don't dub movies or TV ( only childrens movies or programmes ) , so you get used to the English language from TV, music and Cinema.
One more thing before I stop: The forced "nynorsk" education at school's not very popular by most pupils..

I will be buying this boxset as soon as i can,A nice friend sent me this song SangenFoderDigTillbaka this weekend,I listened tonight and it is a very strong vocal from Agnetha it is a beutiful ballad i do enjoy listening to these songs,It makes me more determined to buy this boxset asap! :wink:

Do it, do it sooner than possible. There are 20 or more super-great songs like Sången Föder... in the set (the rest are just super). You won't be disappointed. :D

I've copied them all to my hard drive so I don't have to bother to load a CD when I want to listen. I've just gone through 27 songs and there wasn't one I didn't like. I'm in schlager heaven. :D :D :D :D

I have two Agnetha boxsets (shame, what a wealth) :oops:

I immediately bought one after its release and a few months later it was on sale on CDOn (Sweden) for only 12,50 or 15 euros. Couldn't resist...
