Good idea. There are many many pictures made of the '79 tour and I own a lot of those, so it's nice to see something of the Australian one. I like the first one you posted, and I will see if I can find some new photos and add those to this topic as well.

Well, this was the only song where Agnetha and Frida shared one microphone.
And no, Eagle hasn't even been written in early 1977 so ABBA couldn't have done it back then.

WOW!!!!!!!! is an understatement. Can't decide whether the wonderful visuals satisfy me as though I was there, :D or make me dissatisfied because I wasn't there. :cry:

Just a couple of years later they would have had video tape, and they could have captured more with less effort. There's gotta be more of the film preserved somewhere. Hopefully it will emerge in the future. 8)

Many thanks for all the fantastic pictures of Abba at their absoloute peak.
The girls looked amazing during the 77 tour, and those outfits were the best, sexiest they ever wore!

Such a shame that so much footage of the movie was taken up by the silly DJ story instead of the concert footage. I always FF to the Abba footage when i watch the movie.

I think you're right there indeed. Dark nailpolish is too extreme for her. She's more the kind of pink nails, or blue.

I found the stand-in Agnetha on the pic too. :lol: You can only spot two blonde women, and both are sitting next and above Björn... Creepy...

She did indeed. In the first concert in Sydney, the famous "rain concert", she slipped and fell during Waterloo, but quickly got back up again - so quickly, I missed it completely. This photo made the papers the next day, including the front cover of one morning paper.

Same here I enjoyed this also very much. You were so lucky getting to see ABBA live.

I can remember several plane loads of fans flying over from New Zealand to see ABBA in Australia,sadly I was no among them.

By pure coincidence I stumbled across the Agnetha picture using yahoo search engine. The version of your picture I found was can be found at http://abbafever.bravehost.com/ with the picture being http://abbafever.bravehost.com/myPictures/agnet2.jpg . So it proves how good they are.


To find this and other picture I went to www.yahoo.com and entered "Agnetha" (by the way the agnetha in pink was originally mine on alt.binaries.pictures.abba and now appears elsewhere!)

When you click on the link, the picture on the top right of Frida in the hat is indeed the real Frida, and the picture of Agnetha with her blue scarf around her waist is the real Agnetha, the oonly fake girls are the bottom pic of them both together.

Anyway, it's off-topic, but again I have to wonder about hearing more about past ABBA gossip in less than in a year in this forum than in over 30 years of being a fan. That explains everything. Agnetha is surprised because she has just traveled through a time warp back to 1968 bringing a copy of ABBA The Album with her. She probably stopped off at that "Different Planet" to meet up with Joe and listen to ABBA. The journey was difficult and she lost her bra. :rotfl2:

The story starts in the summer of 1976 in the yearly charity tv-show from Momarkedet (ABBA visited Momarkedt both in 1973 and 1975 - the 1975-visit was shown on tv and ended up on the Number Ones-DVD)

In the show in 1976 - the norwegian Crownprinsess Sonja (today Queen Sonja) sung a norwegian song for children "Vi har ei tulle med öyne blå". She did it with the norwegian artist Wenche Myhre (known in german speaking countries as Die Wencke) and the doll "Titten Tei". The song was released as a single:



ABBA was probably told about this, so when the royal couple where in the audience on January 28th 1977 in Oslo, they did this song à capella as a salute to the royal couple.

The song has ceveral verses, but I guess ABBA only did the first one:

Vi har ei tulle med øyne blå,
med silkehår og med ører små,
og midt i fjeset en liten nese
så stor som så.

.. which translated is something like:

We have a little baby girl with blue eyes
with silky hair and with tiny ears
and in the middle of the face a little nose
as big as this

I thought you guys might be interested in some more of the premiere in Oslo on January 28th 1977, so I've done some scans from my scrapbooks. Sorry that the quality might be a bit bulky on some of these magazine-pics, but as you know... they're 30 years old.... maybe ready for a museum... eh.. well... not yet... :-)

By the way... the mentioned salutesong for the royal couple; "Vi har en tulle med öyne blå" was sung as song no. 4 after three songs. Then they presented themselves verbaly and sang for the royals.

I suppose my main gripe is that we never got a good shot of Agnetha's 'famous part' in that outfit. :cry: To see her wiggle in that outfit would have finished me off! :D

Btw. I remember seeing a picture of the girls in that outfit where they are sitting down with their arms by there sides and their legs stretched out.
It's an odd posistion to be in on stage, and i'm wondering which song they were singing at the time?
I have'nt seen the pic in ages but i think it was on Maggotts site.

It occured to me she wanted to wear the shorts for the rehearsal too because she was going to wear them in concert.. just a thought.

Frida is wearing black nailpolish in the rehearsal pictures?? :shock: Or is it only the dark red one.

Lou, that is the one I had in mind. I like the one on the previous page even better - the girls had stricken a pose. 8)

Some fantastic photos from the '77 tour on this thread. It makes me wish that someone would publish a book devoted to the '77 tour. There have been so many books on ABBA, it would be nice to have one book that was specifically about this tour, and full of great photos of course! I think ABBA were at their most photogenic during this period, and my fave pics of ABBA are always the ones on stage. I hope there's a publisher out there who reads this and agrees with me! :wink: Rich.

The frizzy ST was actually frizzy only shortly after she had applied it. Later on when it grew up a bit, it was much better.

I am not really fond of Waterloo perm either, but I don't think she looked like a granny. Many women had that hairstyle at the time. Frida herself said in 1982, during Nojesmaskinen programme, something like "was I wearing a wig?" :lol:

Loving these photos! I've always thought the best photos of ABBA are the ones of them in concert, especially shots from this tour. I've said it before but I really hope we get a book in the future dedicated to the '77 tour, and full of colour photos like these. Rich.

Thank you for the pictures, Pekka. The pic of the slip on the stage is famous, it was in the paper they held up in the hotel scene in The Movie. According to BLDS, Frida had injured fingers and bruised her hip, and I often wondered how she could go on with the concert and if the injuries had inhibited her.

Ivana...I hate to ask for more and more, but could you tell me a link for the Australia interviews? I've never heard them talking about this incident, except for this short, rehearsed scene in The Movie...I'd really like to know what Frida herself had to say about her fall.

Pekka - I love the pic of Frida on the landing stage, she's wearing one of her folklore blouses that suit her so fine!

How I wish 'they'd' do a proper book on the 1977 tour, crammed full of pictures! They did that 'ABBA In America' one, didn't they? I'd rather one on the glossy '77 tour, the '79 one didn't really do it for me- well, not as much. ABBA were at their shiniest, glossiest best then, visually. They had yet to record some of their finest songs yet, though. But they never looked better than on this tour. By contrast, I think sometimes they all looked rather tired and even a bit dowdy by 1979.

Agreed It would be nice to have a set of Books ABBA's 1975 Tour '77 & '79 and '80 as well.

This is yet another dream of mine.

I think The '77 costumes were actually a bit better than they wore on other Tours, with the exception of Frida's Boots Remember the white tight outfit with the little Jacket

I'm still amazed to see NEW '77 tour pics after all these years -- and such beautiful ones.

Of course I'm biased, but I think that not just ABBA fans but anyone who is interested in the history of popular music (or of popular culture in general) would find these pictures fascinating. These are iconic portraits of one of the world's greatest pop music groups at the height of their powers. To look at these pictures is to see fascinating moments of a great historical phenomenon frozen in time.

Thanks to ABBA for creating their art and their legend. Thanks to the photographers who so artistically captured the images that preserve the memory of this titanic phenomenon. And thanks to all those who have shared these images with the rest of us.

Well said! I've also been harping on about the very same book earlier in this thread. I think it's the book a lot of us fans would love to have. Does anyone have any serious ideas of how we could all request such a book? If enough of us emailed one of the publishers they might just listen. :) Rich.

We really need a tour book, really bad! (I made a topic about this a while back)

Maybe a 600 pg like Fotografien covering 75, 77, 79? Roughly 200 pages each, and of course there will be a detailed analysis of the tour, etc. covering a few pages. And a complete set list - every website is different (is Mamma Mia in the middle or the end?) :wall:

I'm quite a fan of the Beatles myself; why would I need condolences? I agree that an ABBA 77 tour book would be nice idea, however, I don't quite understand why anticipating one requires snarky remarks about the Beatles?

I was simply using them as an example of a popular, successful group who have (and deserve) a great many books about them- they were the first thing that popped into my mind, that's all. All I was saying was that I find it odd that another huge group (in this case, ABBA) seem to have much less. And the 'condolences' thing? That was me being dry/sarcastic/obtuse.. I didn't think you'd take it seriously for a minute-you're an intelligent man. I mean, why would you require 'condoling' for your musical taste? :stupid: :lol: It's a sense of humour thing that may not be fully grasped by people from a different background but it's hardly hardcore 'offensive'. Sometimes, we'll say to someone, "You have my sympathy" for something but they haven't really..but not the opposite, either. It's a little hard to explain. I agree Maxi. I think a book about all the tours would be great including the 74-75 tour - if it's going to be a book about the tours, let's have all of them :thumbup: The fact that they toured so seldom must warrant a book surely. There were so few opportunities for people to see them live - a book would be another way for fans who missed out to get more of an idea of what it was like.
