Wondering what Universal's First DVD release of '07 will be.
Just sitting here wondering what Universals first official DVD release...hopefully will be of ABBA in 2007.

Any suggestions ?

Anyone!

Maxi-saxi.

I mean there has been so much crap and rubbish released lately, hasn't there
MyMamaSaid - 25.06.2007, 05:56

Completely boring I know, but it does appear to have the Universal "seal of approval." :D

ABBAnator - 25.06.2007, 07:26

Looks like Number Ones with a slightly different cover. No description of it's contents however. And it is awfully expensive if it is indeed Number Ones with an alternate cover.

And it is PAL only which is unusual for a current Universal release.

Sorry Bruce, it's just that TV special that was aired a couple of years ago in selected continents. A previous thread can be found here:

iancee - 25.06.2007, 10:43

This was first listed for release in January last year, then the release date was pushed back and pushed back until it was rumoured to have been cancelled completely late last year. Then it reappeared with this July release date. Goodness only knows whether it will actually be released this time.
DancingQueen - 25.06.2007, 11:12

Is The All Times Favourite really the next release? That's quite a disappointment. Making money of a group which doesn't longer excist is one thing, but to release this crap about that same group is a shame. I mean, better focus on what's happening now: the museum, the members nowdays or maybe an other good documentary, but in fact I think we already have one of those. No 'hit song science' for me since that documentary was already broadcast a month ago in the Netherlands. I only watch it when I'm bored stiff acutally.

We want good new stuff. 8)
Maxi-saxi - 26.06.2007, 04:48

Yes I know what you mean.

It would be nice for the powers that be to get a official release of An in depth interview with Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny & Frida talking about The ABBA Day's, there careers reminiscing about Tours and What ABBA meant to them.

Maxi-saxi

Or I'd settle for another release of never seen before performances by ABBA on a DVD
MyMamaSaid - 26.06.2007, 10:15

Glad we were able to help you out, Maxi-saxi!

News on the Intermezzo site: http://www.abba-intermezzo.de/ehome.htm

June 27, 2007

* Universal Music England have announced the release of a Deluxe Version of ABBA The Album in autumn. More details will follow soon.
Joe - 28.06.2007, 12:26

Thank you, Angeleyes!
If this is true, then this day is a good day! :D

Joachim
Angeleyes - 28.06.2007, 12:40

Hi Joe,

You can trust the Intermezzo site, so have a good day!! :D

That's something to look forward to indeed. :D

However it is UM England anouncing it rather than UM Sweden. It may be a PAL only release. That would be bad news for us in North America. :?

imstillalive - 28.06.2007, 13:14

That sounds interesting! Lets just hope we get stuff something new and not something we've already had 1000s of times before.

"Arrival" deluxe was excellent with ABBA-dabba-do. I just wonder why they started at "Arrival" instead of the beginning??

Roll on Autumn!!!! :D :D :D :D
Maxi-saxi - 29.06.2007, 05:07

About time.

I hope they have some great performances on it.

I hope they do not decide to put ABBA the Movie on the bonus dics, I mean there are plenty of other ABBA clips they can release,

Sorry to be s stick in the mud

Anyway hopefully Universal Uk will have a few treasures on the delux version anyway.

Joe - 29.06.2007, 10:07

Even though I tend to believe in this story, because a source is given this time (in opposite to the 'news' about a live album earlier this year...) I still would like see an original source to be sure. :D

I (still) don't think they would waste The Movie for such a release. I'd rather expect them to re-release it in a couple of years as a new "special/limited edition" with different bonus material. Anyway, I'm pretty sure The Album Deluxe will include interesting material, but I'm not sure if it should be expected to be on the same high level as Arrival Deluxe.

But there are at least two existing threads with ideas for possible contents:

Hi every one, nice topic Maxi, this comes from the ABBA Site.

:boogie: :boogie: ABBA-The Album Deluxe Edition :boogie: :boogie:

ABBA's 1977 watershed album, featuring hits such as The Name Of The Game and Take A chance on me and more, will be released with bonus tracks an accompanying DVD of rare and previously unreleased performance. October 2007 is the projected release date for the Deluxe Edition.

P.S. I know! they must have had film from the cutting room floor, Universal must be looking in on us and read about us talking about unpublished and unreleased performances.
Villemo - 03.07.2007, 14:58

And here we have tracklist. Why don't they give us "I Am An A" :D
Angeleyes - 03.07.2007, 15:33

Bonnie - 03.07.2007, 15:43

Sounds good!
I bet there are a lot of fans who start whining again about this is missing or they forgot about that.... yadayadayada...

Does anyone know what that The name of the game (ABBA special TBS) is?
DESIGNER - 03.07.2007, 15:49

Angeleyes, like you I will be putting it on my birthday list in October, 17th.
I hope I can get it from the ABBA Site, from the shop.

P.S. Gniblett and I are both going to be very happy when it comes out, we have been wating far to long for unreleased performances.
DESIGNER - 03.07.2007, 16:07

Bonny, I know that B.S. is broadcasting Systems like CBS PBS and so on and so on, the T must stand for a country or system like Public BS.
Joe - 03.07.2007, 17:22

GREAT!!! :applause:
Actually everything in it I hoped for and fine to see some B-sides included as bonus tracks (Eagle edit, the live versions)

Bonnie wrote: Does anyone know what that The name of the game (ABBA special TBS) is?
This is from the Japan Special. According to abbaontv.com it wasn't included in the broadcast!!!

Joachim
welshabbalover - 03.07.2007, 17:41

YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Can't wait for this :D It's especially rare seeing as it has Name of the game from ABBA in Japan which wasn't even released. Just a question...

7. Recording ABBA – The Album (Gomorron Sverige, SVT)
11. ABBA – The Album Television Commercial II (AUSTRALIA)

I cant see either of these on ABBA on Tv... Can anyone help??

Thanks x

abbasite.com wrote: 11. Take A Chance On Me (Live Version; Alternate Mix)
Is this the alternate mix they used in the Starparade or the live-version included on the B-side of I Have A Dream?

welshabbalover wrote: 11. ABBA – The Album Television Commercial II (AUSTRALIA)

I guess this is the second special included on the second DVD from ABBA - The Movie including footage from The Movie.

Neither do I. Makes things even better, doesn't it? :D

You might be right with the commercials, WATERLOO. (Happy birthday again! They've chosen the right day for you to announce it!)

WATERLOO wrote: Is this the alternate mix they used in the Starparade or the live-version included on the B-side of I Have A Dream?
Most likely the B-side (as some of the other bonus tracks) since they have the Starparade clip on the dvd. The B-side is said to be a different mix (Palm has written that somewhere I think), I'm not sure about the differences though.

imstillalive - 03.07.2007, 19:55

yipee!!!! This is fantasic! I'm well pleased!! :D :D :D :D :D
WATERL00 - 03.07.2007, 20:16

Thanks Joe, you're right, this announcement was a great suprise (although not as big as the trip to Stockholm I will do in two weeks)
Joe - 03.07.2007, 21:57

Lucky you, WATERLOO!

But I'm really happy too, this has made my day, not that many performances because of touring, but some really nice clips with special versions and different outfits:

1. Eagle/Thank You For The Music (Star Parade, ZDF)
nice, because sung as "one" song
2. Take A Chance On Me (Am Laufenden Band, Radio Bremen)
great for sentimental reasons... ;-)
3. The Name Of The Game (ABBA Special, TBS)
wasn't included in the special, I only know a part of that clip
4. Thank You For The Music (Mike Yarwood’s Christmas Show, BBC)
live vocals
5. Take A Chance On Me (Star Parade, ZDF)
different version with cold ending
6. ABBA on tour in 1977 (Rapport, SVT)
having seen some pictures of it I expect some guys here will need their pills again...
7. Recording ABBA – The Album (Gomorron Sverige, SVT)
sounds interesting, maybe some scenes from the studio as on Arrival Deluxe?
8. ABBA in London, February 1978 (Blue Peter, BBC)
funny, they always appear very relaxed in UK interviews
9. ABBA in America, May 1978 (Rapport, SVT)
finally I might understand it completely :D

Maybe they should (have) change(d) track 2 with 5.

And though known I really think it's a good idea to complete the bonus tracks with the single versions which rarely have been included on other releases before.

I'm very happy with this and especially to see that this series goes on!

Well, Debbie, the speculative thread you created only a couple of days ago has got a definite answer from Universal earlier than we might have expected..

Since we don't have to wonder any longer and can switch to joyful anticipation mode, this topic has done its duty.

The upcoming release of ABBA - The Album - Special Edition can be discussed here:
