Excerpt of article:
Complete ABBA reunion
The fourth member of the Swedish supergroup, Agnetha Fältskog, has avoided the limelight but makes an exception when the film comes to Sweden on July 3rd.
- All four will come to Stockholm, Benny Andersson revealed to Aftonbladet.
Interesting. Let's wait and see.

So Bjorn claimed that both women would not attend the London premiere while Benny says they all will be there in Stockholm. Hmm... what does that mean? Bjorn was wrong so let's just hope Benny is right.
And could we hope for a pic of all four together? Last night they did not pose together either so I say: fat chance! But here's to hope!

I'm wondering maybe Bjorn meant that both girls would not be there, meaning one would? I suppose that could be right :D I dont know since I didnt read his comment lol!! I dont understand why the three of them didnt pose for a picture last night, after all they did at the premier of the stage version.. remember Frida losing her shoe

Even if they don't all stand together, I would die happy if only Agnetha and Frida did stand, smile and pose next to each other. If they held hands, I would go straight to heaven.
Frankly now, I don't care too much about the two Bs. One said the songs are half Mamma Mia and the other said Streep sang like a "goddess" (???? after TWTIA - good but that good ). Wonder if Benny got a bit star-struck? Anyway, I still love Streep.
Re: Mamma Mia movie premiere at Stockholm
iancee - 01.07.2008, 13:35
Odd, because in an interview with the BBC, Benny "was quick to issue an emphatic "no" to a possible reunion of the quartet".
Then again, we all remember that all four appeared at the opening of the stage musical in 2005.

Visitor1982 - 01.07.2008, 13:37
I really do not think they will pose together for a picture, they didn't do that in 2005 at the Stockholm premiere of Mamma Mia! So why should they do it now?
But I really hope I'm wrong!
I'm still betting on the opening of the ABBA Museum in 11 months time. That occasion is really all about ABBA, so they don't have an excuse not to do it. Except of course the fact that they perhaps simply can not stand to be in the same frame together any more.
What's the name of the frame?

He probably referred to band reunion, but what I would like to see is the picture of all of them - in one frame indeed!
Ok, if there won't be all four of them in one picture, then PLEEEAAASSEE Agnetha and Frida. :)
B&B can pose for themselves.. We've already seen plenty of F&B pictures and that is 8) .

I agree! I understand that they did not pose together at the Mamma Mia premiere in Stockholm because it would have taken away all the attention for the musical. All coverage would have been about the ABBA reunion.
But with the opening of the museum I think it would be more than logical to see all of them together. Maybe not at the day itself but I can imagine the four getting a tour of their own the day before the opening or something like that. But then they need to pose already!

It would be nice to see the four of them together to celebrate Mamma Mia and the sucess of it in Movie Form, I mean after all if it were not for Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny & Frida we would not have Mamma Mia.

I think it's a bit sad that we Abba fans must wonder and speculate as we do whenever there's a chance that the four Abba members will be even near each other, that they might be in a photo, perhaps stand together, take a bow, talk about old times in an interview, together etc etc....
What has Abba come to? I just don't get it.
Having said all that though, of course I would be thrilled to see them all at the Stockholm premiere, especially Agnetha.
I say bring Oprah in to get them talking again.

According to ABBAmail
It has been arranged for ABBA to be photographed together at the Swedish premiere of Mamma Mia! The Movie.
A special platform has been built on the balcony for them to stand on for the photo.
Benny has been personally overseeing the aftershow party preparations at his Hotel Rival. Benny normally never interferes in the operational aspects of the hotel but this time he has been very demanding and "hands on".

How fantastic if that were true but I'd err on the side of caution, fellow forum members!
ABBA standing on a specially built plinth to be photographed whilst presumably smiling and waving to the throng???? This is either too good to be true, a wind up or some myth that's designed to build our hopes up.. I just can't see it happening but if it does I'll eat my words!!
I believe I said as much to my good pal on here, Gill.. if there's an ideal opportunity for 'ABBA' to get together again it would be at the opening of The Museum- THAT is ALL about them and NOT 'Mamma Mia' so it would be apt.

err i just read a few articles of this nature
The Swedish pop quartet Abba plan to get together after 25 years for the premiere of the film Mamma Mia! in Stockholm.
But the four will be attending the screening of the Hollywood version of the Abba hit musical starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan as members of the audience.
A spokeswoman for film distributor UIP told the Sweden's Aftonbladet newspaper that ex-Abba singer and songwriter Benny Andersson, 61, and Bjorn Ulvaeus, 63, wanted to appear alongside Singer Anni-Frid Reuss-Lyngstad, 62 and Agnetha Faltskog, 58 at the gala premier.
Streep and Brosnan wanted the film, which has already premiered in London and Berlin, to also premiere in Abba's home country. Because of Faltskog's reclusive lifestyle, the reunion was still not certain.
In 2004, the singer pulled out at the last minute of a performance to mark the 30 years since the group's won Eurovision Song contest in Bristol with the hit Waterloo. Abba broke up in 1982.
is this true? i didnt realise they were going to perform together in 2004! hope they all go tonight and get talking and have so much fun! cant wait for photos!

DeltaGoodrem - 04.07.2008, 13:24
i actually loled at benny's call! :D
Abba stars Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus have said they are willing to consider a sequel to new movie Mamma Mia!
The film version of the hit musical, which stars Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan, opens in the UK next week.
Andersson told Teletext: "Maybe we need to make another movie - perhaps we could call it Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again."
More than 30 million people have seen the musical since it opened on the London stage in 1999.
apparently merly wants it to be called 'grandmamma mia' haha

A huge THANK YOU to all who are posting pics, links and news!!!!!
One question, the picture of all of them on the balcony. Who is the woman standing to the right of Colin Firth (she's wearing a dark coloured dress. ) I think aftonbladet said she was Mona Norklit. At the London opening, there were many pics that said this same woman was Mona. But I don't think she is. She doesn't look like Mona. I wonder if it is someone else who is involved with Mamma Mia.
To the person who asked if that was Gorel in the picture of Agnetha waving, I don't know but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.
Does anyone know if Per Gessle or even Ludvig Andersson were there?
Thanks agian

What a marvellous day in ABBA fandom. To finally see the two most beautiful women in the world, Agnetha & Frida, meeting the incredibly fabulous Meryl Streep -- well, I'm as delighted as the rest of you. I think that Frida and Agnetha are every bit as gorgeous as they were when I first laid eyes on them 32 years ago -- stunning, classy and angelic. And seeing them on the balcony was like a fairy tale Royal Wedding. I am immensely proud to be an ABBA fan on this day of glorious beauty. We love you, Frida. We love you, Agnetha. And of course, we love Meryl too.

As so many of you here, I'm proud to be a fan as well. Not just because the music ABBA created is fantastic, but they have remained great persons as well. As far as I can see, all four are doing well and look good and are probably happy in their lives too. That's not a self-evidence for "former pop stars".
And the world seems to sing along... It will be great to see the movie and to visit the museum next year!!

WHY DID THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN ON THE BLOODY FOURTH OF JULY?????? :axe:
Just getting in from the festivities, and I'm absolutely blown away. They finally did it- I never thought they would........
It would have been fantastic to have all 4 by themselves on the balcony (or at least Bjorn on the left and not Benny, to keep the Bjorn/Agnetha/Frida/Benny order), but I'm not complaining one bit. What a great day for us ABBA fans!!
And can you GET any cuter than that little dance?? :love4:

yay ^ thats my paper.
it truely was A & A's day. thats who everyone wanted to see together. media has gone crazy about it. anything they do together would be a huge success. B & B were pushed to the outer frames of the photos while A & A were center. maybe B and B were wanting Stockholm to be all about A & A?
can someone answer me this. was abba going to perform together in 2004 until agnetha pulled out at the last n=min? the papers are saying yes but i thought they only did the video. could this mean that they may do a number at the museum? today has just brought so much hope

There were rumours that ABBA were going to sing a song at the 5th anniversary of Mamma Mia! and the 30th anniversary of ABBA winning the Eurovision Song Contest on the 6th of April 2004.
Agnetha apparently had said yes to joining the other three in Londen, but eventually opted out. She was also going to do some promotion in London for her new album (My Colouring Book).
This has never been confirmed officially though, so therefor it's all rumours.
I believe ABBA will appear at the opening of the ABBA Museum in June 2009 and we will probably get a picture of all four of them standing next to each other then.

Dearest Ivana, Ron, Mailman and everyone else - for your fab contributions and creative efforts.....
What a journey this has been!!! FANTASTIC!!!! I was at the gate at Heathrow when I got an sms from Stockholm about ABBA on the balcony!!!!!! And I mean... I was - as you know from my other report - happy to be in London on Monday.... but now I felt kind of.... what shall one say.... at the wrong place!!!!!!
But even so.... I'm sooo happy this finally did happen! And do you see how EASY it was!!!!!!!
I mean... the girls are DANCING in front of the cameras - they are huging at the balcony!!! Why were actions like this sooooo difficult for 22 years!!!!! I think it must be some Meryl Streep-factor. She is the first lady of film-making, and ABBA - the first group of pop - can't be shown together with anything less than the absolute first class... or.... well... never mind... HOORAY for Meryl and of course - hooray for A, B, B, A for finally doing it! Why not show up together more often - you guys seems to have fun together. Look at the looks of the girls - playful as ever. This is soooo different from the Stockholm MM-premiere of February 12th 2005. Whatever happened in between I don't know... but the result of it is just faaaaaaab gorgeous!!!!!
Out shopping papers tomorrow!!!!

The Best Day of my life, 4th July 2008 will ever be in my memory, from the time i arrived at rival hotel special things started happening, Benny came on to the balcony and waved to me, seeing all four walk indervidually down the red carpet, the crowning moment of all was seeing all four members together on the balcony before the movie started, if that wasnt enough at the after show party Benny and his band came out on the red carpet to see us and played for us for five minutes and as the night partied on, we could see Agnetha dancing the night away,
special wonderful memories,absolutely Priceless. :D

I was thinking... This was quite emotional for us, the fans...
But I bet it was rather emotional for the ABBA members as well. Standing there on the balcony, all four of them, just like in 1977 in Australia where thousands of people were screaming for them. It must have felt magical for them as well, especially for Agnetha & Frida.
I hope they enjoyed it as much as we did. :D

Thanks to everyone who posted pictures and links. What a momentous occasion.
I think one of the main reasons that they haven't appeared publically together is because they feared it would just make fans want even more from them. They were worried it wouldn't be enough and that fans would start wanting them to record something new together as a group, or just an album with A&A together, or something of the sort.
Perhaps they think it's safe to appear together because their fans have matured now, and will stop wanting anything more from them professionally.
Finally, they have given we fans the farewell we have so long waited to see.
Goodbye ABBA! You were Great!

On the other hand, I feel like this too... But I also started to think that maybe they wanted to test the media and fans' reactions and their own feelings when appearing together like this. Maybe they have some plans for the museum opening next year... who knows! 8)
It's not a "goodbye" feeling for ABBA that I have, on the contrary, I have a sort of "welcome again, ABBA" feeling right now!

Maybe they felt safe appearing on the balcony with all of the other people. No chance for a pic of just the 4 of them. BUT this could lead to other things. And seeing them together on the same balcony is better than not seeing them together at all.
It is so great seeing the girls so friendly with each other, so relaxed. I wonder if Meryl had to coax them to be together with her or if just happened like that.
Thank you again for all of the pics, links, stories etc. What a memorable day. Mamma mia they did it again :)

Well, the thought that popped to mind when I saw the balcony scene was "Long Live ABBA!" I'm a little bit embarrassed to say I barely noticed the 2 Bs at the sides.
Can someone who was present there tell us what the crowd reaction was like when Frida and Agnetha came out together to greet Meryl? Was there lots of screaming etc? Must have been spine-tingling during the balcony scene. Were most of the crowds there for the hollywood stars or ABBA?
Anyone heard any news about the after-show party? No pics?

Pabs - 05.07.2008, 16:57
I have to admit that I think that this is it. I doubt all four would attend the opening of the museum, because they're modest people, and also they'd feel a bit foolish in front of their peers (i.e., all the other artists in the world of music).
My bet is that none of them will appear at the museum's opening. I'm sure that Gorel will issue a press-release on behalf of A,B,B and A, saying how they're all proud of what they achieved and how grateful they are that someone thought their career worthy of a museum, but attending its opening? No way!
Think about it! They are too classy and they would want to show some humility. They would be too embarrassed to be part of any big fanfare about themselves. There's also the risk that, in 10 years or so, the museum might close due to mismanagement or because its owners are no longer generating good profits. So ABBA would not want to appear all excited over the museum, because its closure would then make their appearance at the opening seem silly and proud.
I'm willing to bet that this will be their last public appearance together.
It was a great day Friday, but here is where the story ends: this is goodbye...
We can all be grateful now that they made such a graceful final exit.

Lovely done Ivana - great having stills of this... I saw it on the film and it was such wonderfull seconds!
Then Pablo... a bit melodramatic your thoughts I think.
I still think my thoughts on "why now" comes down to Meryl Streep and this super Hollywood-thing. Meryl is the no. 1 within film. ABBA is the no. 1 within pop. I guess ABBA felt it was fun to meet up and "go all the way" because they can match each other with Meryl as the very no. 1s....
But I wouldn't dare dream of AA-work and so on after this!
By the way - what I have heard from Stockholm is that the balcony was mostly for the press. Fans wasn't allowed to stand with such a dreamsight to the balcony. But of course - thay saw what was happening!

Meryl Streep is one of Agnetha's favourite actreses and she loves movies. Plus that she probably feeling much better these days. I think that were some reasons she came. I agree with Pabs. Don't expect to see all 4 of them there.

Well I have the feeling, "Thats all folks!! last night was wonderful! that they persuaded Agnetha to join in the fun, and for all four to celebrate together for once and the final time!
I think benny played a big part in getting Agnetha to turn up.
This time, it would of looked like a complete snub to many, if Agnetha
stayed at home.
I hope Agnetha really enjoyed herself last night, and to know that she was a big part of the abba music, that still continues to bring joy to more and more people.
I can't see them (All) coming together for the opening of the theme park/museum., they were not too keen on the idea in the begining,
its just other people making alot money on the back of them again.
But we have the solo projects to enjoy and talk about in future.
for me abba is the past now.
Re: Mamma Mia movie premiere at Stockholm
RichieR - 05.07.2008, 19:20
Maybe I am missing something, but why are some thinking this is A, A, B & B's way of saying goodbye to us? This wasn't, after all, truely an ABBA event. I don't think anyone persuaded Agenetha to go - they had no need to and they never seemed to persuade her in the past. I feel she went simply because she wanted to (it was on her own ground etc) - the same as the first and last nights of the Stockholm stage production.
I don't think A, A, B or B would feel that they had to say a formal goodbye to us anyway and, if so, why now and why at a premiere? From what I have seen it hardly seemed like a goodbye either. If anything it has given me a little hope for the future. It's fantastic to see Agnetha and Frida so happy together.
If A,A, B and B did want to say goodbye to us I would have thought the museum would have been the ideal time? A place to celebrate ABBA rather than the premiere of the MM! movie.

Wonderful pic, wonderful film-clips - I had never imagined this to happen. I was rather expecting a Mamma Mia på svenska-primier-thing again, all four attending but all arriving at different times not ever meeting each other in front of the cameras.
This was so amazing and mindblwoing I still can't believe the pictures I just saw. Agnetha and Frida both looked absolutely gorgesous (better than Meryl if you ask me but no A&F vs. Meryl-thread, please  ) and they all seemed to enjoy themselves.

The media
Hi guys, Like you all I'm so excited about this BIG event that took place last night. I can't get enough of the pictures and videos. I've read the Swedish tabloids today and it's funny how different they can describe the same event. Aftonbladet is celebrating, using the whole midsection of the paper to really enjoy the party mood. Expressen on the other hand are VERY cynical, they claim that this was only a publicity stunt to increase the boxoffice for the movie. Furthermore they say that at the party afterwards none of the ABBA members sat together or even said a word to each other... That's the media business for you! ;)

What I think is that the ABBA members probably had nothing of a "goodbye to fans" on their minds yesterday! But also no secret hope messages for fans either. They came there to celebrate the film and have a good time, not to announce the state of ABBA the band. If they would have something definite to say, they would have given an official statement about it. This was not it.
I don't think A, A, B & B know themselves for sure if they will appear at the opening of the museum. If they do, they will appear as those four persons, but it's still not "ABBA" there. Unless they really pose as ABBA, but I think of that as very unlikely.
It's just our own interpretations about them if we feel this to be a goodbye, a welcome or some more hope given. 8)

Such wonderful pictures. Love the close up shot of the four of them and the 'Scandinavian' chic sense of style they have have.
For me it's a wonderful occasion simply to be celebrated. I was disappointed Agnetha and Frida didn't have cameos in the movie, but seeing these pictures more than make up for that. Meryl Streep must have been a deciding factor, surely, in getting the women together. Who wouldn't want to meet the singers of the some of the most famous songs in the world and what better way than at a MM premiere? (And vice versa, I should imagine Agnetha and Frida loved the opportunity to meet her).
There will probably still be some nasty press speculation about this i.e it's just promotion for the movie etc. but we know full well these four people would NEVER get together unless it was something they really wanted to do - otherwise they would have taken up many, many past opportunities of all kinds of things as a foursome.
In other words, this is a genuine get-together.

Juuuuuhuuu... ABBA stoped working together 26 years ago. Last night was a fun night out for the four, and this time they finally - after 22 years - shared the celebration with us.
Talking tabloids... Expressen and Aftonbladet.... norwegian VG had a double spread which really irritated me - that wonderfull balcony-shot with the headline; "8 metres from a reunion" - to describe the space between B and B with the girls in the middle. But the worst... they had drawn red circles around the ABBA-faces - as if we don't know who they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Terrible!!!

i think B & B have become ever arrogant over the years. in the press today they said abba will never get back on stage together again (so why were the concidering 4 years ago but not now) maybe because money is not an issue... as bjorn said (ie he has enough money now, he no longer cares about abba or the fans).... but they didnt say they wouldnt record etc again so i dont know
but i think that A & A should do something together. everyone knows them as the face of ABBA. B & B wrote the songs, A & A were the face and sound of abba. They both (A & A) deserve success. B & B are so successful with MM i would like to see the girls have MAJOR post abba success. even if they just do one song (get in some big producers)
they just need to show B & B that they are someone and that the can do it without them (since they are so arrogant and unwilling to even do anything together again)
i hope there is a chance of an A & A project after the wonderful connection at MM

Just now!
Just this past few seconds I saw a television commercial for Mamma Mia! the movie as I was preparing to type a comment on here! Amazing coincidence!
 :P
I agree...I feel that the "Fab 4" will meet again in person for the Museum opening....I mean, this was a "Mamma Mia" premier..Not a premier for their own museum created to honor ABBA!! Thay almost "have to" make an appearance for us there! It will be expected. I also do not agree that this is an "ABBA Goodbye"..rather a "Hello, we're still alive! and just as great as ever!"
Anyway...I am still over the moon about seeing them together, but moreover, the emphasis being on Agnetha and Frida being there together..and with Meryl. Just the sight of A&A hugging and talking was enough to make me happy for a loooooong time to come! :D Plus, just a thought, I feel that the appearance was for US, the fans..not just to promote the movie, but an appearance to honor ABBA fans, who have been dying to see the four of them in public at an event. Thank you to all of the people involved in this event!
After all, many of the people who shell out the money to see the movie are ABBA fans...and remember the songs, and expect to see the girls somewhere to promote it. If they did not make this appearance, I feel that people may not make the connection of ABBA the group with the Mamma Mia movie, which is what the story was written around, their music! Let's GO!!! I am ready!!!!!!

If you're talking the 5th anniversay of Mamma Mia!/30th anniversary of Eurovision thing in London in 2004, no former ABBA members were considering a "reunion" then, the producers of the musical were trying to organise it for the publicity for the musical. The recent stories say that Agnetha pulled out at the last minute, but it was known well in advance that she wouldn't attend, and just a couple of days before, Benny was saying that he wouldn't go because it was being hyped as an "ABBA reunion".

Thanks for the link Ron! Almost all TV links I've seen are gathered together in one clip!
By the way, I have taped a lengthy TV interview in Athens with Pierce Bjorn and Amanda which was made one day prior to the London premiere in London. The reporter CLEARLY knows nothing about ABBA, and Bjorn knows it and it could be seen in his answers.
She also asked him an unusual question bearing in mind it was a MM-inspired interview and I think he showed once again his memory failed him.
It is a VERY interesting report and I might tape it with my camera and put some parts of it on YouTube later. Actually I liked the Pierce part but it is just too long.
They have also made a very nice connection between MM the movie and ABBA, by giving the audience more info about ABBA but that is where the reporter cleary confuses some facts.
In the end we get to see BENNY on that boat? playing the piano!

Well, I've spent lots of time catching up on news etc on this event and read some really humourous comments from fans. My favourite was along this line :
"..... it was a big surprise to see Agnetha show up for the premiere but the even bigger surprise (thinking "is it possible, anything bigger than this?") was to see Benny actually enjoying himself and promoting this movie." I agree but Agnetha was the bigger surprise, imo.
I guess we should thank Benny. He was the one who decided on building that special balcony for that now world famous balcony shot. I'll bet none of the Hollywood actors could have imagined that that picture would propel them to the front page of some many newspapers worldwide. Benny might have had an inkling. I'm also in agreement that most probably, Benny had a lot to do with Agnetha's presence there. He was the only one who gave an firm YES when asked if all four would be there. He must have promised her a low-profile and quiet entrance via a side door but forgot to mention the balcony, :rotfl2: Of course, Frida played a big part in taking hold of Agnetha's hand and marching her over to the entrance to meet Streep. Agnetha was a good sport.

Well im sat at Stockholm city terminal waiting for my bus to take me to the airport.
Ive just experienced the biggest high of my life and could die quite happily now.
But after reading some comments on here im actually feeling quite low.
It certainly true whether they stand together of not the fans will never be happy.
their standing on that balcony that night wasnt a goodbye, it was a celebration, party time. They gave us what we wanted, not totally, not stood right next to each other, but wasnt our focus always on Agnetha and Frida, and it was they who stood together and my god it was the happiest moment of my life.
If anyone finds anything to criticise about that night, then i suggest you obviously werent there, or really shouldnt be a fan.
I have never seen the Abba members and the people around then as happy as they were that night.
At the party Benny came into the street to play for us, so brought the party to us.
Agnetha in the early hours of the morning, knowing full well the fans were watching only 20 ft away danced and laughed without a care in the world.
So for me whatever Abba or the members do from now on can only be a bonus. Ive seen everything i wanted to see.
I believe their appearance together will make it easier for them to pose together again, as the big money shot has now been done.
Next we will say " oh look they are posing together once again, cant they leave each other alone".
Please eveyone enjoy this historical moment and try to delve to deeply into what it all means.
It was a fantastic party night, that just happied to include the previous members of abba standing on a balcony.
At the end of the day its only the fans that care about that.

Most of us fans are still floating on cloud nine after seeing pics and videos of this momentous occasion.
LONG LIVE ABBA!
Btw, the "We Want ABBA!" chant before the balcony thing was truly spine-tingling. Since you were there, do you mind telling me if most of the fans there were tourists or locals? I'd assumed most would be locals. I'd also somehow concluded that they are not ABBA fanatics unlike UK, Holland etc? Hence, it was a wonderful surprise to hear the chant so clearly on the videos.

That's because they recorded the clip about 5 or 6 hours before the film! :) (I was there when they recorded it - but I wasn't brave enough to sing when the reporter asked me. ;) I think if I had have done, Benny and Björn would have sued me for ruining one of their songs! LOL!)

Well, I'd thought that there would be a mixture of ABBA and some of the actors/actresses fans. Furthermore, the Swedes are supposed to be the super-cool type (so I'm wrong  ) and ABBA being a local group, may not cause a frenzy in their own country. I heard that they can walk down the streets and not be disturbed by fans etc. I guess I would have to exclude Agnetha cos it seems like everytime she steps into town, there's a photographer somewhere.
Well done Wendy for starting that We Want ABBA chant. You, Nick, Stu and others are immortalized forever in the videos. We hear you loud and clear! :applause:

Well, actually there is probably quite a bit of truth in that! ;) But I think 'ABBA-fan' Swedes can, when it's a big event like this, be just as noisy as ABBA fans from other countries! :)
It is true that people here do generally treat their celebrities in a more down-to-earth way than happens in many countries, so you are right about that. :)

Roban, thanks. That's a great link. Incredible video.
You can see clearly in the video how the meeting with Meryl was set up. An assistant (in black) signalled to those inside as Meryl was approaching. Meryl was informed and then, we see Agnetha being dragged out by Goran and Frida. Goran was seen earlier with Benny and Bjorn.
Now that I can finally focus on other guests present at the premiere, I must say Amanda Siegfried was fresh, girlish and beautiful in that maroon dress. The dark-haired girl next to Ludwig is gorgeous. Reminds me very much of Juliette Binoche. Meryl Streep, bless her, has never looked less than beautiful in every red-carpet function that I've seen.

You can clearly see all the conspirators in action and the scheme was farther reaching than I supposed. One spy escorted Frida away to get Agnetha, another positioned Meryl for the big moment, and Gorel, who may have arrived with Agnetha, ushered Aggie out to the red carpet. :D Their timing was perfect, and while the girls hugged, the spys stood around congratulating themselves. 8)

Hi Karin,
It was wonderful to meet you, Marieka, Nick and many others too.
Well done to you and Marieka for spotting Agnetha dancing, we had a great time watching as she was spun around the dancefloor, like a real Dancing queen, it looked like she had one to many, but it was great to see her so uninhibitied. She certainly outlasted all of us, it was around 4am(i think) and i know i was ready for my bed, Agnetha didnt look like she wanted to stop.
I was so sad when she left the party and they drove away from the hotel, as we knew that incredible day was truly over. Abba had left the building.
Im still trying to recover from that incredible week.
Hope you have.
Best wishes

Yes, Agnetha certainly does like to party, still dancing after 3 o'clock in the morning! ;) (And she looked absolutely fantastic! :))
So did you attend the same party as the cast and the ABBA-members? You could watch Agnetha until 3 o'clock? That's amazing...
No way! There were plenty of security guards to stop us getting in! LOL!
It was a warm evening/night and the hotel's doors were open - we simply saw Agnetha dancing through an open door. :)

About members, I just could speak to Frida at the entrance before the show. It was a only a few seconds, I think. I really excited to have a chance to shake hands with Judy Craymer and Phyllida Lloyd whom I wanted to see for some years :D Many Mamma Mia Musicals' made my life changed indeed. I have so much memories through them in these some years.

I think the four handled this very very well.
With the stageshow it would have been inappropiate to have the four on stage because it was about the musical and not about them. Same goes for the movie of course and again they did not really pose together.
t was no really coincidence that Bjorn and Benny stood widely apart from each other. And the girls gave all of us what we wanted: a pic of them together. Agnetha did not walk up to Benny or Bjorn but joined Frida and Meryl and I for one thought it was great seeing them standing next to each other.
Wow people... what a day! I told many of my friends and they really could not care all that much although they were surprised hearing that it had been 22 years. They all were pleased for me... lol.

Why is it that everybody is consciously missing the four of them being together at the Swedish premiére of Mamma Mia? This was on 12th of February, 2005!
They were at least all in the same place at the same time, although not in the same picture. Sorry to be a spoilsport, but I really don't get the hype.

Anne, to a lot of ABBA fans, I think it's because Agnetha and Frida made contact and showed happiness being together. Furthermore, it was the 1st time all 4 had taken a picture together since the good old days.
At the MM musical premier in Stockholm, there was frost hanging in the air. All 4 members arrived separately, didn't acknowledge one another and sat well apart from each other.
Come to think of it, it's like they're taking baby steps leading to a final ABBA picture. The frost is slowing thawing. First, stay in the same building but sit apart, next the 2 girls make contact while the boys stand far away and finally, a picture of all 4 members only having fun (mebbe at the opening of the museum).

No offence but Lillian is right, these letters on all the pics are really annoying. For me all the pictures you posted are completely worthless because I can't save them onto my hard-drive since I am interested in Agnetha, Frida, Benny and Björn but not if their faces are hardly visible because of Watermarks.
In general I do not understand these watermarks at all. I mean, if you had taken these pics okay, but most of them also appear on other sites so you do not own the rights to them so you could share them without watermarking them
But well, as I said, no offence, it's completely up to you what you do with the pics you post.

I find those tags annoying as hell... It can't be to protect copyright, cos the photo's belong to newsagency's, not abbatoday.
Marnix
Re: Mamma Mia movie premiere at Stockholm
johnny59 - 08.07.2008, 12:41
Marnix and Philipp, as far as I understand copyright law, I have to agree.
Seriously taken none of us is allowed to publish these photos at all. Not here, not on abbatoday, not anywhere. Everyone who does it without buying the publishing right from the legal copyright owner (in this case in fact a news agency) could be sewed by them, if they would think it's worth the effort. The only reason why nothing happens is that the private fan scene seems to be somewhat tolerated by big bizz as long as it is only photos and not footage. It's definitely not because there is a legal right to do what we do.
So watermarking a photo that does not belong to the site owner and that strictly speaking has been published illegally, seems like a strange concept.

Hi Harrybanks (nice nickname!), that is one of my favourite moments too. I love the way Frida turned around caught Agnetha's look lovingly and reached for Agnetha's hand. Really sweet. Agnetha let Frida take her inside. :)

As sweet as it was, it also shows us the depth Frida's character. With all the excitement, circle dancing, and being hustled off the carpet to make room for Brosnan, Frida has the presence of mind to look back at Agnetha and saw she was trailing along alone. Frida quickly solved the problem naturally and without a second thought. :applause:
Some people are able to reserve a part of their brain to look after others in spite of what may be happening to focus their attention. :D I've seen it regularly in many of my oriental friends, but I've had to struggle to do the same thing. Sigh it's been a few days since this happy event and still not really any reference to it at all in american media.
Even a search on CNN.com doesn't bring it up. I guess the ET week of ABBA probably should count but for the most part it has pretty much been (ABBA at the premier together after so long) ignored. The more things change the more they stay the same as far as ABBA interest goes in America :(
On another note, I was thinking about all those old postings from long ago people saying they, ABBA, so hate each other to ever appear together* again and then we have this....Good things come to those who wait :D :D
Anthony
*of course when I say together I mean at the same occasion and being friendly but I assume that is implied on this thread but I still feel I have to be specific cause there is always someone that needs to split hairs LOL

Actually, I found something...
In today's paper there was another explanation of why ABBA will never reform as a group. Everything we've already heard countless times before, but I guess those reporters still never tire of pressing their luck.
But the last sentence reads:
"Last week all four members appeared at the Swedish premiere of "Mamma Mia!," a film based on their hits."
So at least that's something, although not so much.

And that underscores my point....a footnote in a newspaper...in the age of fast information/cable tv/ and internet this is all we could muster :-|
Not really appropriate for one of the best selling/beloved worldwide groups of their time. All that seems to be of interest in US "entertainement" is gossip and innuendo.
OK off my soap box and wish for the next thing ABBA to come true a new album by either lady or "crossed fingers" a duet album? produced by B&B? :D :D
Am I asking too much??

LOL I guess all I have to do is complain...here is the biggest article about ABBA I have seen in a US newspaper in a LOOOONG time...
http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2008-07-08-abba-inside_N.htm
Even quoting Bono
"It was the year of punk rock and ABBA were to beheaded," recalls Bono in ABBA: The Winner Takes It All, a 1999 TV documentary. "And I probably would have held the ax." That's right before he dismisses their ear candy as "girl music."
But eventually he, too, succumbed to their sugar-spun siren songs, as did such tastemakers as Madonna and Elvis Costello. "ABBA have a purer joy to their music," Bono says, "and that's what makes them extraordinary."
And this description of our foursome :
"Find a photo and take a good look at Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid's four shiny-clean, almost cherubic faces. In many publicity stills, there seems to be a halo of light hugging their bodies as if they were messengers from the great beyond, spreading their musical word to the masses."
Guess I can't complain about no write up in the US!!!! :D :D :D
Anthony
Re: Mamma Mia movie premiere at Stockholm

LOL TWO articles about ABBA
http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2008-07-08-abba-main_N.htm
This one even mentioning Presidential candidate John McCain on ABBA:
"I'm not embarrassed to say I like ABBA." Furthermore, if elected, "the background music would be ABBA in the elevators all over the White House."
:D :D :D
LOL I may not like his politics but I have to admit he has great taste in music

Yes, the fans 'enclosure' was to the right of where the press were, so the videos are from a slightly different angle.
The BAO one, though, was after the film, much later in the evening and so in that video the fans are standing directly in front of the hotel's doors.

jessy I spoke to one of those German woman and saw the pictures that were taken of her with Agnetha in Benny's hotel.
Unfortunately I don't know more about this woman, but she was crying after she had met Agnetha inside. Earlier that day she showed us some pictures of her with Agnetha when she was a teenage girl, this night Agnetha recognized this woman and they hugged eachother...She was very lucky!!
But I don't think she on this forum...

"knock head" Um, sorry! I only had eyes for the blonde. On a second look, yes, Meryl and Frida look lovely too. Frida has such a cute crinkle on her upper nose when she laughs.
