Was LAYLOM ever performed live?
This question was asked about TACOM, and it got me to wondering the same about Lay All Your Love on Me. We know there is no offiicial video for it (unless you count the "montage" on some prior official releases), but the more I thought about it, I can't say I've ever heard a live version either. Strange since it was a smash club hit (although a miserable failure as a single).
Does anyone know if it ever was peformed at all?

Hello Restareabear,
for aught I know, "Lay All Your Love On Me" was never performed live, and ABBA had no tv-appearance with it.
From the "Super Trouper" album ABBA sung "The Way Old Friends Do" live in their concerts (before the album came out).
In the Dick Cavett Show they had live performances with "Super Trouper", "On And On And On" and "Me And I".
In tv-shows they had playback appearances with "Super Trouper", "The Winner Takes It All", "On And On And On", and "Happy New Year". From the same songs there are official videos. (although "On and on..." is only a picture slide show).
Yes, it´s a pity. I would have liked to see a performance of LAYLOM, too!

Well said Toni, It would have been nice to see a live performance of LAYLOM and also it would have been nice to see an official promotional clip to accompany the song.
I know Polydor Uk made the clip up but It would have been nice to ABBA sing the song like they did For Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! in the studio.

I must admit that LAYLOM isn't one of my real favourites (though it's ok to listen to it from time to time) and you might put it all on this fact, but I really do wonder what a (live) performance could have looked like?
You can't really perform it, there are no outstanding vocals, no story and nothing else you can act, mime or perform some interesting dance routine to at least - I don't have any idea what they could have done with this song on stage or TV for an interesting performance!
So, Maxi-saxi, to me it's no wonder that you suggested a pure studio clip for it and I agree with this idea.

I think the song might have worked in a studio since On And On And On was also performed in that way and worked quite well.
But for a playback-performance the chorus simply included to many vocal-layers.
If Agnetha's and Björn's children hadn't been frightened with those kidnapping-rumours we would have had a performance of LAYLOM. According to ABBA Magazine No.30, ABBA wanted to record six songs and they had travelled to Germany to appear in the Show-Express. Despite Super Trouper, The Winner Takes It All and On And On And On they planned to perform Me and I, Lay All Your Love On Me and The Piper, too.
But sadly this never happened.

Now that would have been something.
Only if....
