ERUPTION
Does anyone remember this band? I still crave their version of "I Can't Stand the Rain". They also did a great remake of "Runaway". Precious Wilson's vocals remind me of Amii Stewart: pure brilliance.

In the UK, they reached Number 5 with, 'I Can't Stand The Rain', in 1978, & Number 7 with, One Way Ticket', in 1979. They both reached Number 7 in Germany.
I think that, 'One Way Ticket' was a Cover of the 'B' Side, of, 'Oh! Carol', the 1959 Neil Sedaka Hit. And Neil helped to write the English Lyrics for 'Ring Ring' - so, an ABBA connection!

Eruption was a group that was produced by Frank Farian. They had a few hits in the late seventies. The ones that come to mind are 'I can't stand the rain', 'Party, party' and 'One way ticket'. Precious Wilson guested on Boney M's 'Oceans of fantasy' album in 1979, even with one solo number 'Hold on, I'm coming'. After that she also had some solo success with 'Cry to me'.
I have the vinyl album 'I can't stand the rain' that includes a long version of that song. I also have that song on a seventies compilation CD, as well as 'One way ticket'.

There is a 'greatest hits' CD out, but it does not include the original versions of 'I can't stand the rain' and 'One way ticket'.

That's the one I've come across before with the '94 remixes on it. Why can't people leave songs alone - the originals are always so much better!
But thanks for that anyway Hades

Yes, I remember them!
I know two of their hits: "One Way Ticket" and "I Can´t Stand The Rain".
Very nice stuff! You´re right, Restareabaer, Precious Wilson´s voice sounded amazing.

Eruption had a huge hit here with I Can't Stand The Rain and when I went to Germany in 79 I picked up One Way Ticket single which briefly made the charts here. Frank Farian, forall his faults, was frankly bl....dy brilliant at creating novel and clever sounds with his songs, especiallyhis remakes, be it with Eruption or Boney M. Some of the Boney M remakes didn't work for me, they seemed like album fillers, but others, well, lookat Rivers of Babylon which had been previously recorded by another artist....That's the obvious one.
Abbagav, totally agree but the endless remixes. I get reallytired of seeing artists oftenfromthe 70s have their one-off hits or so get remixed to try to squeeze some more juice out of it when there's none left really.
Or the worst one is when the artist re-records the actual song. Arrgh!!!
Some of the songs are better left alone, they were fine as they were. I think though the newer songs from the 1990s onwards, definitely need help becasuse frankly a lot of pop music today just isn't as good. But that's my own e-pinionof course.
One exception about the remives relates back to Frank Farian. And that is the remix I think fromthe early 90s of Ma Baker. It's sped-up and does that kind of beat-box thing in the middle (is that the right term) but it's damn catchy and doesn't disturb the original arrangement too much, but adds to it.
Oh well sermon over.

MIKA doesn't need remixing though. He is going to be pop's "saviour" I think.

Glad to know there's another MIKA fan around Einar :P
Also, Andrea who on another topic mentioned Mika's song Relax Take It Easy. That song has a breathtaking musical hook in it. Hopefully we will get an extended remix sometime.
Sorry to get off-topic here!
