Unknow plane parts found on italian alps

    Micky,

    welcome to this board !

Do you have found no part numbers on the parts from crash site ?
Part numbers from Curtiss aircrafts begin with the number "20-"
On so much parts you must find a lot of aluminium parts with numbers !

The stamp "CFD11" could be from a Curtiss. A other stamp, as example, have the number "CAB" with three digits.

Do you have a crash date ?

    Regards
    Nils

    Hi Micky

if these are parts of a C46, then the date must be wrong.
from what i can find, the C46 was not used in Europe until March 1945 and that was for paratroop drops in the assualt on the Rhine.

    regards
    Roy

    Mickey,
have you checked to see if any Groups were using C54s?
the landing gear has a lug on it where something would have been attached. the C46 doesnt have this but the C54 does have a strut going there. i cannot find a good photo tho. attached is the best shot i can find
first photo. lug in red box
    second, C54 gear
    third C46

    Micky.
The part numbers that start with 32 could well be B24 Lib and the pic of the strut looks like the front strut off a B24 nose wheel ass.

    may be a B-24...
Hi mucks, other friends tell me that she must be a B-24.
As in many other cases, the date may be wrong. The plane was loaded with ammunitions, SMG and canned beef. I think it was a 15th Special Provisional group plane en route for one of the partisans drop camp in north italy. I'm still investigating...

    Nils

    i think the C46 and C47 also used the P&W 1830 engine. :?

i dont know if the exhaust would be any different on a B24

    Roy,

I think then the part number is not the same as this from B-24 (32).
This part number is a typical B-24 number, not a specific number from engine...

    Well...
Thank you all guys, my friends will have a rendez vous with the Bergamo Historical Intitute researchers. We hope to find some data in the partisan documents, we hope to identify the plane and his crew, as in many, many, many, other cases...
