Benny - The Name
Dear Benny fans,
in several books you can find his complete name: Göran Bror Benny Andersson.
Is "Benny" really a part of his name or is it only a stage name? I often asked myself that, because "Benny" doesn´t sound like a typical swedish name.
Toni :)

Yes, it is part of his name. And Benny really is a typical Swedish name...But it's sometimes spelled Benni instead.

Well you learn something new every day I would never have picked Benny to be a typical Swedish Name. Well at lwast not Spelled the way, I would have gone for Benni.

Hi Toni (and everyone),
Ooh, I had asked a similar question on the old site, because I am not used to seeing Benny as its own name. I know Benny can be a nickname for Ben/Benjamin, and someone had pointed out that it can be a nickname for Benedict, too. Another thing, I think I'd heard his name pronounced less Benneeee, and more like Bennih.
I happen to have an aunt and an uncle named Frieda and Benny. However, I don't have any Swedish relatives, so an Aunt Agnetha and an Uncle Bjorn (or even Stikkan) just aren't there.

Benny (with this spelling) is a rather common name in Sweden. I've never seen it spelled like Benni.

I can't imagine him being called anything else now but I remember in the 70's finding it amusing because there was a character in a TV soap, 'Crossroads' called Benny who was a bit of a simpleton and consequently, over here at least, and in school playgrounds, 'Benny' became a by-word for someone not very bright, a bit 'thick' you might say. So, he may have fared better with Goran! It is certainly more exotic so it gets my vote.
