ABBA_The Tour
Our local PBS tv station is bombarding us with ABBA -The Tour commercials. The problem is that they look and sound like ABBA in the promos for the upcoming Red Rocks Show (July 27th). If someone watched and didn't know better, they would think it is really ABBA reuniting. When I clicked on tickets for the show, they simply said ABBA. Although I am looking forward to this show, I think it is extremely deceiving to those who are not fans enough to know this isn't ABBA. Even the advertisements in our newspapers don't make it clear that this is a cover band.

Hi Phil, you are compleately right, if you are not an ABBA fan, a person would walk away thinking that they just saw ABBA and that is the way it was last year with ABBA The Show and ABBA The Music with Waterloo and AbbA The Tour with Arrival. This year waterloo is not comming to the US and Arrival is doing a major tour this year, from June 23rd through July 28th. Sence for the last five years, Waterloo has don the major tour Arrival only did a small tour in the US. The advertisement is very deceving but I have heard some good things about Arrival, I saw Waterloo last year at the Music Circus with my Cousin Dorthy and her Sister Nancy saw them on the cape and they thought it was ABBA. Dorthy told her Sister Nancy that what you saw was Waterloo not ABBA and Nancy would not beleve her until Dorthy came back with proof a week later. I will be going to the Music Circus to see Arrival with Dorthy and Carol my sister. Both groups are Swedesh, and I belived you will have a good time.

Given the number of years since the real ABBA toured it would be hard to believe that anyone might think the real ABBA would look so youthful as Waterloo. Of course though there will be some who don't know anything about ABBA who might not realise what they are seeing. If tribute acts or their agents/promoters actually are trying to trick people (not sure if they are or not !) then are we seeing a most sinister new twist to the whole ABBA tribute business?
Maxi-saxi - 11.05.2007, 03:50
Yes I can see how that can be very deceiving to people.
Surly the people who put this together must see this?
Any way when your going Have a great time and keep us all informed

Is this the tour which seems to have half of ABBA's old musicians on stage with the imitators? I hear good things about their sound. I've seen Bjorn Again, Voulez Vous (good fun), etc so I may give this bunch a look in. Maybe not. Yeah.. NOT! LOL
Joe
DESIGNER - 15.05.2007, 15:16
Hi drimnagh, Bjorn Again and Voulez Vous can not hold a candle to Waterloo, if you wont a real ABBA experiance and walk away with a smile on your face and tears in your eyes, go to see them this September at the Royal Albert Hall Londen, I only wish I could be there. Yes You are right, there are four former ABBA misicians.
Uffe Andersson (sax)

we are getting ready for the show tonight at Red Rocks. i'll take some pictures but i can't guarantee i'll know how to display them here. i have converted both Ruth (my fiancee) and her 20-year old daughter, Cody, into hard-core ABBA fans so this should be a great time. gotta go!

Hi philzone, have a grate time, you are in for a special treat. If you get a chance to meet the girls, say hellow for me from Ross. Check out my pictures on ABBA Tribute Band, by jamthedancingqueen, again have a grate time, Ross.
philzone - 28.07.2007, 19:47
My ABBA-The Tour story:
Like an idiot, I didn't get tickets in advance. I didn't think it would sell-out.
We went to ticketmaster, they had 1 seat left. We decided to take a chance on the Red Rocks box office. Ruth decided we should at least get the one ticket available. It was already gone by the time we decided. Nervously racing to the venue, I ran into the box office and they had stacks of tickets. My day was saved! Then, there was a huge lightning bolt. A hiker got hit (haven't heard how he came out of it) and three transformers were knocked out. They decided to at least try to restore power up to an hour after original show time. There were some anxious ABBA fans to say the least. Thousands of them but most were very positive, having a blast in the parking lot, playing ABBA songs on their car stereos, having a few cold beers and singing along. The place was just an ocean of ABBA. When they finally cancelled the show, they were still smiling and singing. Rescheduled now for September 27th, I can't wait to see how the actual show is. But the ABBA fans made this disaster a pleasant experience. I would go again just to party with these people in the parking lot!
phil
philzone - 28.07.2007, 20:34
I just saw on CNN news that the lightning and weather cancelled a show by the pop group ABBA. So, some folks still actually think it was a real ABBA show (this is national news, not local). On a sad note, the hiker was killed.

Sorry to hear that, Ross
philzone - 26.09.2007, 20:03
Hooray! We are going to try this again. ABBA-The Tour (waterloo) are playing tomorrow night at beautiful Red Rocks amphitheatre. Cancelled by lightning strikes in July, they are returning from Sweden for this one show. They have been bombarding us nightly (through the whole summer) with television ads for the show. I'm going to miss hearing ABBA song snippets every night on local TV. I will return to Red Rocks Saturday night for Phil Lesh and Friends (from the Grateful Dead). I stole his website name for my abbasite4ever user name (Philzone) I'll write my review here Friday.

philzone - 28.09.2007, 18:26
WOW! What a show. it was far more than i expected. to hear beautifully played ABBA music by some of the original band, bouncing off of the Rocky Mountains , awesome! the place was packed, it looked sold-out. The ladies sang wonderfully, even though you knew they were not the "real thing". i didn't think of them as a cover band. i recommend everyone to see this band. we were able to meet Ross (designer) and he gave us some great photos of the band (thanks again, Ross, hope you enjoyed Colorado). i was going to write down the set-lists but the songs just kept coming and i was having way too much fun to be writing things down. i will definitely go again if the opportunity arises.

I might be enjoying it as well in November. :D
Angeleyes - 09.10.2007, 12:29
Don't understand this anymore...
Are you all talking about "Abba-the Tour", "Abba-The Show" (with Waterloo-girls), "Arrival"
...or is "Arrival" the same band as "Abba-the Tour" :?:
platobird - 09.10.2007, 16:29
I'm confused too. ABBA the Tour is what recently played in the US, but only came as far West as Colorado. Now I see that ABBA the Show is coming to California in JUne 2008. They'll be down in Costa Mesa and tickets are US$298 each.
I see good stuff here for the whichever group played in London. Before I commit to this price, I need to know what I'll be seeing.
johnny59 - 09.10.2007, 18:26
It seems it's the one with the cover band "Waterloo". I've read they will be in Hanover/Germany in January 2008. Tickets are 30 Euros, I think.
DESIGNER - 09.10.2007, 19:30
Hi all, I no it gets confusing but I will try to straighten it all out. Waterloo and Arrival are two different groups although they are both from Sweden and are frends with Bjorn, Benny, Frida and Agnetha. Camilla and Katja are the lead singers for Waterloo and it is called, ABBA The Show and Vickey and Jenny are the lead singers for Arrival and its called ABBA The Tour. What happen this year is that Waterloo normally did a major US tour and Arrival only played only a few cities. Waterloo did this for five years in a row but this year Waterloo decide not to do the US and Arrival took over the tour. I hope this helps, and yes I know all four.
platobird - 09.10.2007, 19:50
So which group is better, and should I pay $298 (plus tax) to see ABBA the Show (Waterloo?) next June?
If I go, my wife will come too, so I'm up to $600. My son - who now hates ABBA because I play them in the car, and he can't listen to things he wants - will probably want to come - just because. That makes $900. In addition I have to get to Costa Mesa from San Fran - so I'm over $2000 - and it's not even ABBA. For the real ABBA I'd gladly pay tens of thousands. :D
I'll need to think more about this. (By the time I decide, it'll probably be sold out.)
johnny59 - 09.10.2007, 19:53
300 bucks sounds crazy for a cover band. Are you sure that's the price?
Fire&Ice - 09.10.2007, 20:53
I am talking about Arrival as Designer has already clarified it. Check out tour dates.
http://www.arrival.se/#frame5
However, if the ticket should be 300 USD, I think I'll skip it. In fact, the whole country would. :P
I paid 50 EUR for the original Rolling Stones, why should I pay more for a surrogate band however great they are? No way Hose.
philzone - 09.10.2007, 23:10
I paid $30 US for ABBA The Tour.
phil
platobird - 09.10.2007, 23:13
Here's an image of the event in Costa Mesa. :D
You can see the $268 tickets are the second row (row BB).
I'm not sure what the Tribute show is on the 12th, but tickets for that are $428 - and it's only row A.
Maybe I need to sit in the second balcony.
I'll have to call Segerstrom Hall to learn more.
Maxi-saxi - 10.10.2007, 04:13
They seem expensive for tickets to a tribute Band!!
Maxi-saxi
DESIGNER - 10.10.2007, 17:58
I will E-Mail Vickey and find out what is going on, I paid 26.00 for the tickets + Ticket Masters charge for a tottle of 36.00. As good as they are I would not pay that price for them or any other groupe no matter who they are, that price is crazy.
platobird - 10.10.2007, 18:05
It may be just too soon to order tickets and these are advance-sale, VIP or press tickets in the front rows. I'll have to call the theater to learn more.
philzone - 10.10.2007, 20:57
that is unbelievable. seeing how far in advance this is scheduled (June 2008), i wonder if this is real. By the way, we are thinking of seeing The Colorado Symphony:ABBA-Mania this Saturday, Oct. 13th as tickets range from $15 to about $70.

I just bought my tickets on-line (the cheap seats $15) for ABBA-Mania. If you can find your way to the Colorado Symphony Orchestra web-page, there is a picture and information about them. It should be interesting to hear ABBA songs recreated with an orchestra backing up the cover-band. Sorry i am not computer-smart enough to display the link here. i will give my review Sunday morning.

Yes!! I'm going to see Arrival at October 28 in Amsterdam! :excited:
Don't know what to expect and I wonder if these girls can sing just as good as Katja and Camilla from Waterloo...
Have seen/heard Katja and Camilla at fanday Roosendaal 2006 and they have beautiful voices. :D
philzone - 15.10.2007, 19:59
We went Saturday night to the Colorado Symphony to hear ABBA-Mania. Abba-Mania are 4 portraying ABBA. The symphony has what they call a "Jeans 'N Classics" series which is a backing band (guitar, bass, drum-set). They had previous shows with The Lettermen (yuck), a review of songs from Hair, etc... It is not a typical, stuffy night at the symphony. We found ourselves in a minority age group. It seemed most of the audience was over 70 or under twenty.
Some of the arrangements were fantastic but others didn't seem to work. There was an obvious lack of keyboards (especially in Ciquitita) but, surprisingly, the ones that really worked were KMKY, Voulez-Vous, Summer Night City, and Gimme x 3. Great orchestral arrangements on those. The ladies used the same dance moves repeatedly. They were even doing it in I Have A Dream (bounce, kick, bounce, kick...).
During the middle of one song, Bjorn runs off with a background singer and Agnetha says, "you're in trouble, mister". weird humor.
I think it was worth the $15. Watching all of the geriatrics dance to DQ was amusing.

I am happy that you had a good time phil but it did sound like they are not as good as Arrival. Hi Angeleyes, Jenny is new to the group and she has a grate voice and so does Vicky in fact unlike Camilla, Jenny has the same range as Agnetha but I do not hold that against Camilla because Waterloo puts on a great show. It shoud be interesting to see who does the major US tour this summer of 08, Waterloo or Arrival. Ross...

My, oh my...I've seen the concert of ARRIVAL last sunday in Amsterdam and it was a marvellous concert! :excited:
Me and my friends have had a great time! I can't tell you everything about it now, but I will do later. That's because I'm writing a report of that concertnight and I will share it with you when it is finished. :D
Fire&Ice - 01.11.2007, 22:16
OH please do! I will be going on 14 November but I am worried about whether there will be interest at all. There are only a few posters around the city and I have heard that they started to advertize the ABBA Arrival only on one TV station today.
I had a funny experience today. My cousin who was a fan back then saw the commercial on TV today and called me excitedly to ask if ABBA were coming!!!!   When I told her it wasn't real ABBA because they would never reunite and let alone come to Belgrade, she was a little disappointed and I don't know if she will go too although I told her they were among best ABBA cover bands and that their show is great.
The commercial just said ABBA Arrival are coming and it seems that people here will assume real ABBA have reunited and are coming to Belgrade!

My (short) story as I promised you:
The concert was great! Anna and Vicky are fantastic singers, not to compare with Agnetha and Frida, but GREAT! They sung 28 ABBA-songs! Guest stars where Finn Sjöberg on guitar and Roger Palm on drums. These two man had worked with ABBA in the past. Though they are now older, you could see that they enjoyed it to be on stage! After the concert we've got the chance to talk a little with Finn, Anna and Vicky! I will show some pics soon. Got from Anna a promocard:
Angeleyes - 05.11.2007, 11:13
Pics taken by me, but not so very good...:(
Fire&Ice - 05.11.2007, 17:59
Great pictures Karin!
I have bought my 3 tickets today, and BOY I was surprised.
At first, I thought I was to be the first one to buy tickets, my intention being the first row  , and strictly the middle. However, I got 7th row in the middle. Not bad at all, regarding the fact that there was no advertising whatsover, but a few posters around the city.
But Karin, how did you manage to talk to them? What did they do after the concert, did they stay and say - we are going to sign things now.. Could you easily get to the stage? I would really like to try and get autographs from the original musicians..
Here they say it is going to be the whole ABBA original band - which means that Lasse Wellander and Rudger Gunnarson among other people should be there but it seems it is not the case.
Anyway, I would love to get one from Roger Palm. The drums (rhythm section) have always been my favourite instrument.

It was my first time that I saw something like that, even a copy of ABBA....I say if you can't get the original, the copy will be just fine....the concert hall was full, ABBA fans all around and very happy even if we couldn't see them in original......ther was a lot of dancing :boogie: and singing from the audience...I was sitting in the 4th row in the middle and was sooooo excited...it really brought back the ABBA feeling and memories :blob1: .....they performed and copied ABBA so good, moves, dancing, voices, ok, sometimes you see that this is not ABBA, but again a lot of effort.....they played mostly the things from Arrival, VV, Fernando was performed by "Frida" first part in Swedish and the second part in English....so nice....and there was Waterloo, and TYFTM of couse, So Long, the only part which needs more practice is a dance part in So Long (sometimes folowed by In The Mood) which was not that good as when is perfomed by A & F, there was also TCOM, AGAN.....generally speaking the concert was really nice, I was enjoying as a hell and I was so amazed after the concert and had that stupid look on my face "I am happy"
I will try to put some photos taken yesterday during the concert......
