Per Drimnagh's request- Songs You Get Sick Of......
If I understand the post properly, I believe we're going for songs we ordinarily like, but every so often, we hit Skip when its turn comes up.
With that criteria, I submit.......
3) Head Over Heels- Good song, but I don't like Agnetha's lower register to begin with, and she really gets down there on a number of occasions. Plus, sometimes listening to it can be.......well........."exhausting" ("Andwithouttraceofhesitationshekeepsfallingheadoverheels" can just give me a headache on some days; it comes so fast and furious).........
2) TWTIA- Every so often, I go like, "All RIGHT, Agnetha! You're divorced! We know you're full of angst and sorrow- but let it go already!!!"
1) Waterloo- A classic, yes, and the song that started it all- but it just doesn't do anything for me. The official video and Brighton 74 are OK, and the song itself works, but.......overall.......meh. No big deal.
All right, Joe. Fire away.......... :fight: :D

LOL she gets down there..hehe!
You really don't like her lower register? I prefer her lower register - very sexy. Tastes differ! 8)
Dancing Queen to begin with - the classic song has been SO exploited that I simply can't listen to it any longer. I need a looong break from it.
The winner takes it all and The day before you came - of course these songs are just gorgeous but I think they basically have the same structure and they keep repeating so towards the middle-end of the songs I skip them.
Ring Ring - ... no just joking of course (and teasing Gary), I would never skip that one!
All in all, mostly the popular and "heard so many times" songs on the radio and TV.

I'm with Gary on this I listen To whatever songs are played on Radio or TV for that matter. I think it great, over here at the moment ABBA is getting a lot of play on one particular Radio Station.
A couple of times they have played at least 5 ABBA recordings back to back no commercials and lately ABBA's The Piper is getting played a lot.
So As I said I never tire of it.

Lol Matt! I feel the same way; get over it already! It is a great song but sometimes just too much for me.
What about Move On (your fave Matt!)... I love love love this song but sometimes the busy la la la gets to me and I need peace and quietness... amazing isn't it...
But to be honest: all ABBA songs get on my nerves at times. It means I need a healthy break, listen to new music and music I have not listened to in a long time. And after some weeks the need to hear some ABBA is back and away we go in full force...
So come on Agnetha... tell him how sad you are! And yes you go girls... la la la all you want!

True enough- but it didn't fit Joe's definition of a song that I like but get sick of. I never liked Move On to begin with......... :P
I tried, though, Ron. Really, I did........

Believe it or not, but sometimes I get sick of Dancing Queen. ''Oh you mean that song sung by that group.. Ehm, ABBA wasn't it? They won Eurovision Songcontest with some song... Waterloo isn't it?''
:wrath: Mind you all: nót The Winner Takes It All! Or else I'm going to be very angry! Another one than... For some reason, I always skip I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do. I've never liked that song really, and to be honest: it's a bit the same with Fernando and Chiquitita. More or less two of their most favourite songs, but anyway.

Good to see you like I Have A Dream and Fernando!

What have I done? I've unleashed a monster! LOL
Ok, don't hate me.. (actually, feel free; I'd kind of get off on it )
Here goes. Have I got to give reasons why some songs get on my nerves? I'll try.
Does Your Mother Know
( It's just too thud thud thuddy)
The Way Old Friends Do
( I just don't 'believe' this: it may be about B&B's relationship, but that's it..)
IDo x million
( Too repetitive..)
Waterloo
( Can I just clarify because I do like it; I know it holds a special place, etc but to me it sounds like something from the jurassic period now.)
That's your lot, for now. I'll be inciting a riot here very soon. Maybe I'll even nominate 'Dancing Queen' and TWTIA..

I can relate to that. I really like the song but sometimes I skip it, just take her in my arms and sing "you'll be dancing once again, and the pain will end, sing a new song Chiquitita!" to her.
Another song I like but can get on my nerves if I'm not in the mood is "Summernight City".

Bang a boomerang: it's a fun song, it has a feel good video but the way this song starts withe the shrill DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DAAAAAA really freaks me out!
Arrival: it goes on and on, although it is in fact quite nice.
The Winner: the song I love to hate at times! ( besides I love the reactions when I say it can get on my nerves even when I know most fans consider it a masterpiece  )

I live in an ABBA-free zone, Gill, so I don't have that problem here......... ANY time ABBA is played on the radio (which is always DQ anyway) I go crazy.........

It sounds "forced" to me, as in that IMO it doesn't come naturally to her. I would have preferred Frida to sing that, actually........

You should know better than to play with a heart that's true. Good song. 8) But since this thread wasn't about good songs made by Agnetha Fältskog.. Hold on, wait a second. The Winner Takes It All ís a good song and it is the kind of 'made' by her. Now get your hands out of that song immediately!
 But I love your original thoughts on it, PeopleNeedLove.

The good news is that ABBA offered us so many songs of differing moods that if you play them round and round, by the time you're back at number one, it's a song you yearn for - not tire of. My car only holds six CDs, so that's less than 100 songs. I do skip a couple songs I don't like, but I never skip the ones I like. Occasionally, I skip ahead to one I want to hear at the time, but they usually just play round and round, and when it's back to CD1 TR1, I'm ready to go again. :D
I can undertand the comments about DQ, but I believe it's an over-reaction to it being popular with "non-believers" when there's so much more to ABBA. True believers loathe to be identified with "those people". :fight:
I'd never skip TWTIA; it's Agnetha's opus. :love4: Actually, now it comes up twice, and I impatiently wait for it. :excited: I also anxiously wait for Frida's Andante, Andante.
Skippiing songs that you like is one symptom of ABBA-addiction, which is an incurable malady affecting ordinary people of all sexes and ages. Some have tried listening to other artists to recover balance, but they always return to ABBA. I'm currently listening to Hayley Westenra as therapy. 8) Fantastic voice, unfortunately, except for the words, all the songs have the same plaintive sound. I already feel drawn back to ABBA.

I also feel that there is some element of "backlash" against DQ because of its immense popularity amongst the non sweaty-and-obsessed crowd.
Have to disagree with you on TWTIA, though- Great song, yes, but sometimes, enough is enough.......

So if I'm reading this right, it seems to me that depending on who you are and your own indiviual tastes, every song at one time another whether you like it or not eventually grates on one's nerves either permanently or temporarily....(lol)

People Need Love wrote criticising TWTIA and I'd just like to point out that Agnetha simply recorded the song, it was an 'acting' part, as she says herself and she hasn't been harping on about being a divorced woman all these years- it is US, the fans who have been playing the song to death so if anyone is fed up of the song it isn't Agnetha's 'fault', is it? I trust you get my drift?
Cheers,
Joe

My 2 cents worth: It totally depends on my mood. And how often I've heard a specific song lately. If I'm in a good mood, I'll tend to skip the "downers" and/or slow ballads and play the upbeat ones. Vice-versa for a bad mood.
I used to DJ and still have a lot of my old tapes (yes, it was that long ago they're on cassette) and still listen to them alot. Many of them have LAYLOM on them, so if I've heard it alot lately I'll tend to skip it when listening to an ABBA cd.

Totally agree- she hasn't been singing about her divorce for the past 27 years straight, of course.
But still- There's only so much angst and reflection I can take until I need a break.......:P

Interesting. I agree with many of the songs already mentioned (i.e. Dancing Queen, TWTIA). There are times when I just am not "in the mood" to listen to those and so I do skip them. And actually, I feel that way about one entire album - Voulez Vous. If I'm in the right mood, I can really get into listening to that album, but if I'm not - then there isn't really one song on the entire album I would pick to listen to. And I do like many (most) of the songs. Strange thing these moods - but as platobird mentioned, this group put out such a variety of music that something is bound to satisfy. Good thing for those of us who have been struck with the incurable malady "ABBA-addiction". :o
Regards

Whenever I skip over Dancing Queen I justify it by saying to myself 'I'll save it for later.' It's not that I'm tired of DQ, its just that whenever I hear it at a dance it's such an awesome experience and I'm a little bit afraid of losing that feeling.
