3 Songs Dropped From 'Mamma Mia!' Movie
Hello,
According to today's 'Daily Mail', (UK), 'Knowing Me, Knowing You', is not the only Song to be removed from 'Mamma Mia!', the Movie.

They have also removed, 'Under Attack', & 'Thank You For The Music'.

So far - only, 'When All Is Said & Done', has been added in their place.

Why dont they just keep to the original score - take out Under Attack I cannot understand.

I'm sure, Thank You For The Music will be played over the credits. This song just fits perfectly for the very end of a movie. Just as it was the case with ABBA - The Movie.

Taking out Thank You For The Music? One of the most classical ABBA tunes? I mean, ABBA's Under Attack is a great song, but I don't really like it in the Mama Mia! version, so I do understand they removed that - not so famous - one, but those other two?

NO!! This isn't true! :x I don't wont them to take out 'Knowing me, Knowing you' but on the other hand I Love 'When all is said and done'...I don't understand why 'Thank you for the music' will be dropped! As DQ said, it's one of the most classic and well known ABBA song! And 'Under attack' fit so good with the nightmare!
I don't like this at all... :x

Well I don't think its such a big deal. Is When All Is Said And Done going to replace Knowing Me, Knowing You? I Sort of hope it might, as I think it would fit the storyline better than KMKY did.

TYFTM always seemed a bit silly in the musical to me. As if the song had just been stuck, without any real significance to the plot. Although, it would be nice for the song to be played over the credits.

I wonder what would replace TYFTM and Under Attack, then? Unless they are planning to leave these songs without replacement? I would quite like to hear The Day Before You Came, or to have Summer Night City included within the Gimme, Gimme, Gimme / Voulez-Vous segments.

I'm betting we hear Waterloo as the music during the opening credits, and TYFTM and DQ during the closing credits.

Scrap that.
What are they doing putting abba's music in a musical that's damn sacriligous  I hate musicals! Most of these things are just for rich toffs who half the time are not going to them because their interested in either seeing the show or listening to the music but because its the thing to do amongst their toff friends  Abba's music is above this. Jeez abba get back together and make some music again, don't worry about looking cool or getting on stage, just make the music. I Luv you Abba, Luv you Luv you Luv you :P

When all is said.... wasn't even released as a single in most countries. And where they did it wasn't a smash.

Head Over Heels was released world wide and that was not a smash either to put it mildly...

A screen play is always different than a stage play, and one thing that's true is there are lots of fingers in this pie. First, there are Hanks, Goetzman, Björn, Benny, Phyllida Lloyd, Judy Cramer and Rita Wilson. Then Streep and Brosnan are big names, and I'm sure their contracts give them "editorial license" over the script. They both have to sing, and KMKY is a Sam song (Brosnan), and he may not be able to do it. The negotiations over the screen play must be intense.

Under Attack is sung by Sophie and the fathers, but Seyfried probably doesn't get too much say. My guess is that UA is too "aggressive" for a politically correct audience.

Finally, TYFTM may be too "ABBA" to differentiate the movie from the stage play and our favorite group. Streep and Brosnan don't want to perform in a tribute to ABBA but in a movie with a story set on an Greek Island.

That's my opinion :!:

And that's a mistake because most people don't know the song! Kind regards, to Carribaen.

So you've learned your "red i" lesson. Good for you.

It of course isn't a mistake and now is the chance for the wide audience to discover the WAISAD masterpiece.

WAISAD wasn't a smash hit at that time because their popularity had already decreased.
That is the reason why TDBYC wasn't a hit as well. People simply weren't interested in Abba at that time any more.

When All Is Said And Done and Head Over Heels both appeared on many compilations and are equally known or unknown for that matter.

Hey C, not with the general public. Non fans mostly know the hits.

Lemmon, Mamma Mia! The Movie is an American production. "When All Is Said And Done" charted 27th on the American Billboard Hot 100 and 10th on the Adult Contemporary chart. As a comparison "Mamma Mia" (the song) only charted at 32nd on the Hot 100, Money Money Money charted 56th, Super Trouper at 45th.

So it's very likely WAISAD is as well known or better well known than Mamma Mia and Money Money Money to the average American, and being that this movie is an American production with mostly American actors, and will likely be first released in America, the addition of WAISAD makes perfect sense.

Just as a note: WAISAD was the biggest "hit" off The Visitors album in America, the only other songs off that album to chart at all were "The Visitors" at 63rd and "One Of Us" at 107th. The only song I personally ever heard on the radio at that time (of those 3) was WAISAD.

Here is a link to the ABBA American Billboard Chart ratings if anyone is interested (Solo work is there too):

Thank you abbanator, very kind of you. But MM won't only be shown in the US? In most countries it wasn't released and was one of us the hit of the visitors.
