PICTURES/APRIL07: FLINDERS RANGES AND NULLARBOR PLAIN

After finishing farmwork in South Australia (two weeks oranges in Waikerie and another four on various vineyards south of Adelaide/McLaren Vale region) we finally headed further towards West - definitely time then to explore this vast spot on the big map. Two not very wisely chosen female travellers from Sweden accompanied us.
The capitals of South and Western Australia are about 2,100km away from each other, including some detours to the famous Flinders Ranges National Park in SA, Kalgoorlie and Wave Rock (Hyden) in WA nearly 3,000km. A long, not in any case undangerous, way to go... different events tried to push our mood downbeat, but we had our fun, no worries_ (X

More infos, as always, in wiki:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flinders_Ranges
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nullarbor_plain

    And here we go...

    1

Last sunset on Adelaide's West Beach.

    2

Once again a complete stock-reorder... ultra-necessary ^^ well, to be honest, to buy that many bottles of car-coolant was not exactly necessary. (X

    3

24 hours later: Stunning sunset above the Flinders Ranges.

    4

    5

    7

Next morning after awakening: our little private camping ground. We avoided to hit a kangaroo the night before only very tight...

    8

    9

Terrific landscape... not to put into simple electronic letters. (X

    10

    11

Halfway on climbing the NP's most famous mountain-formation/Donnie above all odds.

    12

    A little local.

    13

You have to imagine these hills as a kind of natural meteorite crater; and we watched inside the "hole" from the rim.

    14

Time for relaxing after arriving uphill!

    16

    And this is my empire!

    17

    18

Another local - after we incidentally waked him up. (:

    19

Aaaaand... back on the road! In the middle of the Nullarbor Plain, a few kilometres in front of the first big roadhouse (with name: "Nullarbor"), we lost one of our rear-tyres - as long as there are no cars or big and evil road trains around actually an interesting experience to maneuver the unpredictable car.

    20

Mhmm... yeah, I know, we were warned that the tyre's condition would be clsoe to illegal - but we didn't want to listen... that's the way it is... and we got punished for it (X

    21

On the roadhouse - time to snuggle some dogs.

    22

    23

Shortly in front of the boarder to Western Australia, a Lookout over the Great Australian Bight - kind of impressing. (:

    24

And there we are... after about a 1,000km and two nights. It's not allowed to get fruits and vegies over the boarder so we had to get rid of any potatoes or apples... mjam!

    25

About 50km furthermore... We did it! Yeah, we did it! We killed a kang! Including joey! And it was horrible /:

    26

And therefore it killed our indicator, let alone to talk of the quite fragile bumper.

    27

Actually it's not exactly true... due to building sites on the last miles we couldn't drive straight all the time... oooh (X

    28

Another morning. We slept about six or seven meters away from the highway - as far away from any snoring Swedish sluts as possible - next morning we were horned awake by bored "road train"-drivers who suggested themselves to be veeeery funny!

    29

The Nullarbor Plain (Lat. for: "no tree")... infinite vastness! Well, in fact, it's not that empty and there are even little trees from time to time. Definitely quite different from everything I expected. And fakkin' freezin' at night!

    30

Well... somewhen we made it, without any further complications, to Kalgoorlie, Western Australia! For ages already one of the big reasons for me to visit Down Under (who knows me is aware of my spleen for the gold rush eras - in Kalgoorlie in the 1890s

    Kalgoorlie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalgoorlie).

    31

The so-called "Super Pit", once the Golden Mile...

    32

From above, right off the "city center".

    33

    34

The main street: Hannan Street, named after the town's founder.

    35

    Mr. Hannan. ^^

    36

    Entry to the Gold Museum.

    37

    38

Other gold rush towns in the area... Leonora e.g. carried a seriously significant treasure in its core. Quite recently.

    39

    40

    41

    42

They promised us a ghost-town and what did we got? A spot in the middle of nowhere, including merely some wooden name-plaits. ("Saloon") Eeeew!

    43

    Grave. Hee.

    44

The main attraction of a tiny town called Hyden: a quite weird looking majestic rock that - who would guess? - reminds people of a waaave!

    45

    Donnie...

    46

    ...and me, posing.

    47

And another 350km to the Indian Ocean from now on... many people make their 700km-return-trip from Perth just to get their picture, surfing the stone wave! (X

    Molot grazie, dear buddy XD
Though you shouldn't be too quiet - I'd be happy about every comment people make for it's quite a mess everytime to put all those pix online (and recently even quite an expensiv mess_

Donnie is totally going hawaii-sunnyboy, yeah.

The wave rock, be the way, is not exactly dangerous, it just looks like?! However, we're already a couple of hundred km further north, steadily towards Top End to enjoy the tropical atmosphere - right now we're stuck in a town called Carnarvon, trying to make a buck with picking melons and shit. Nothing works really out yet and fuel is eerily expensive, too.

    Keep ya fingers crossed, guys...
Hope to hear from you soon again, mister randalika!

ps.: pardon, cK, pardon! It's not that I wouldn't want to answer you, I just didn't find the proper time (being in the proper mood) to answer you like you would deserve it... please excuse me.

    ez sir gordon,

i know tis sometimes hard and somewhat disappointing putting all the time u can get in these pics & posts ... and receiving no response or rather few bald comments

well though all those pics are honestly bit too much, flooding my sensorial receptors  and making it difficult for me not getting repetitive or rather saying anything to all those things, u know ... taking notionally part in all ur actions, sharing ur thoughts and feelings. i just want u guys to know that i/we havent forget u, although we're bit too quiet :)

    sincerely yours,
    oli

yae, that's alright, no worries, monsieur (X
believe me, I got enough input all over day by day - and of course they're exceptions (and not too few), however, I won't get bored.
all those pix, by the way, are not only for you XD it's also quite convenient for me not to lose the overview by putting everything onlie - and to look back from time to time ^^

still, keep commenting, it makes me happy, indeed_

liebster oli, alles beste nachtraeglich zum jeburtstach, ich hab dich nicht vergessen!
