das kam eben über den Verteiler;
leider nur in Englisch.
Zusammengefaßt sagt es es gab von einen Futtermittelhersteller einen umfassenden Rückruf.
Eine unbekannte Anzahl von Katzen und Hunden leiden an Nierenversagen und ca 10 sind bereits verstorben nach dem fressen des Futters.
Pet food maker announces major recall

WASHINGTON - A major manufacturer of dog and cat food sold under Wal-Mart,
Safeway, Kroger and other store brands recalled 60 million containers of wet
pet food Friday after reports of kidney failure and deaths.
An unknown number of cats and dogs suffered kidney failure and about 10 died
after eating the affected pet food, Menu Foods said in announcing the North
American recall. Product testing has not revealed a link explaining the
reported cases of illness and death, the company said.
"At this juncture, we're not 100 percent sure what's happened," said Paul
Henderson, the company's president and chief executive officer.
The recall covers the company's "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists
of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches between Dec.
3 and March 6. The pet food was sold by stores operated by the Kroger
Company, Safeway Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and PetSmart Inc., among others,
Henderson said.
Menu Foods did not immediately provide a full list of brand names and lot
numbers covered by the recall, saying they would be posted on its Web site -
http://www.menufoods.com/recall - early Saturday. Consumers with questions
can call (800) 551-7392.
The company said it manufacturers for 17 of the top 20 North American
retailers. It is also a contract manufacturer for the top branded pet food
companies. Its three U.S. and one Canadian factory produce more than 1
billion containers of wet pet food a year. The recall covers pet food made
at company plants in Emporia, Kan., and Pennsauken, N.J., Henderson said.
Henderson said the company received an undisclosed number of owner
complaints of vomiting and kidney failure in dogs and cats after they had
been fed its products. It has tested its products but not found a cause for
the sickness.
"To date, the tests have not indicated any problems with the product,"
Henderson said.
The company alerted the Food and Drug Administration, which already has
inspectors in one of the two plants, Henderson said. The FDA was working to
nail down brand names covered by the recall, agency spokesman Mike Herndon
said.
Menu Foods is majority owned by the Menu Foods Income Fund, based in
Ontario, Canada.

zwischenzeitlich wurde die Liste erweitert , auch Iams und Eukanuba sind nun betroffen.

New York (aho) - Die Ursache der Erkrankungs - und Todesfälle bei Hunden und
Katzen in den USA und Kanada [1] scheint geklärt zu sein. Wie das
Agrarministerium des Bundesstaates New York mitteilte, konnte ein
staatliches Lebensmitteluntersuchungslabor in den Futtermitteln des
Herstellers Menu Foods die hochgiftige Substanz Aminopterin nachweisen.
Aminopterin wird in einigen Ländern als Rattengift verwendet. In den USA ist
der Einsatz verboten.

Der Grund für die Erkrankungen und Todesfälle scheint gefunden zu sein. Das verwendete Weizengluten war mit RATTENGIFT verunreinigt. Wenn die Firma das nicht bei ihren internen Kontrollen gefunden hat, dann frag ich mich ob die ihre Zutaten überhaupt kontrollieren. So langsam glaube ich, daß barfen immer noch das Beste ist.

Da magst Du recht haben, aber auf der sicheren Seite bist Du da auch nur dann, wenn Du Bio verwendest.
Denk mal an den Therat mit dem Gift im Futter. Wenn sich da die Schadstoffe von der Düngung in den Organen wie Leber und Niere festsetzen, hast Du die auch im Futter...

Hallo,
ich hatte doch bis vor kurzem noch die Nutro Pouch-Beutel verfüttert. (leider)
es gab damals schon diskusionen über den rückruf von nutro.
damals habe ich auch von nutro selbst einen mail erhalten dass es sich nur um das futter in amerika handeln soll.
doch da ich ja selbst mal im fressnapf gearbeitet habe und noch alte kolleginnen habe hat mir meine ex-arbeitskollegin freitag erzählt dass ein nutro-vertreter in die läden kam und alles an feuchtfutter mitgenommen hat.
Komisch oder?
ich denke das es unmöglich ist das dieses betroffene futter in deutschland auftaucht.
auch zooplus hat nutro aus dem programm genommen.
obwohl ich auch von da eine mail erhalten hatte dass es ja nicht möglich sei, da das schiff direkt am hafen abgefangen worden sein soll.
Also bitte noch mal an ALLE:
falls ihr noch nutro-nassfutter da haben solltet, werft es weg oder schickt es zurück.
Anscheinend scheint doch wohl doch irgendetwas damit nicht in ordnung zu sein.
