ABBA The Show - Royal Albert Hall, London
According to the fan club, there will be an ABBA show put on at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 26 Sept '07, with original musicians.
However, when you look on the their official website, there is no mention of it listed for the month of Sept.

Moved this thread to the "Related artists" section as it is about a cover band.
DESIGNER - 28.03.2007, 21:00

Hello everyone, tickets are on sale now for ABBA The Show, everyone can buy them on line at royalalberthall.com, they are selling for 37.50, 39.50, and 42.50, for a one night performance. This should be a very rare opertunity for Brits to catch these elusive Super-Swedes in action with a 28 piece band with The National Symphony Orchestra of London. You must take this poertunity to see this show, and I do advise you to do so. As far as ABBA tributes go I may just be lucky enought to see something this good again, but I will never see anything better.

Good luck and who ever goes must tell us all about it Ross

P.S. Johnny this is not just another cover band it is a recreation of ABBA and if you get the chance to go you will not be wasting your time.

Ross

philzone - 18.04.2007, 16:53

Ross,
I have noticed in the US it is booked as ABBA-The Tour. I haven't seen any information as to who is in the band, though. I plan to see this at Red Rocks Amphitheater which is an awesome place to see anything.(July 27th). Then, not even 10 miles or so away, on August 4th, we have Bjorn Again at the Arvada Center for the Arts. A busy, ABBA-related summer for us here in Colorado!
(I've been to S.S. Music Circus as I am originally from Medfield, MA.)

That is great, Thanks for the info, Ross! Maybe I'll go see Mamma-Mia in Las Vegas and have 3 ABBA-related events this summer!

DESIGNER - 03.05.2007, 15:18

Hi Maxi and everyone els, sorry to say Waterloo has cut their concert tour schedual back 75% from last year. Their only doing the UK, Denmark and Scandinavia. The other Swedish group will be touring the US and doing Waterloo's schedule. Arrival will be here in the US from June 23rd through July 28, 07.. Arrival will be playing The Music Circus with ABBA The Tour, Waterloo still goes by ABBA The Music and I am sorry for misleading anyone but I just found out from the Waterloo site this week, Katja Nord wrote in the guestbook, " all the schedules for 2007 are up and we will not be doing the United States this year with ABBA The Music". She wishes to say to every one in the U.S.A. " Thank you all for your support of us" Katja.
DESIGNER - 07.05.2007, 20:23

HI every one, Waterloo has extended their tour so they have cut it back only 45% from last year, Maxi they will be touring in Asia 5 shows from 8/27 - 9/3 5 shows confirmed in Japan. Johnny59 Germany tour ABBA The Show December 28- ?

Back now from seeing ABBA The Show at the Royal Albert Hall. A great evening - very enjoyable. Mats Ronander is a complete nut case. Fabulous. My those girls can sing! Excellent vocals, really good. Would recommend this even though I'm not normally a fan of tribute bands. Was great to see some of the old backing band. Also spotted in the front row were Carole Broughton and John Spalding. Nice also to catch up with some of my ABBABuddies. Looking forward now to the Museum opening in 2009. :D
DESIGNER - 28.09.2007, 22:38

Hi polargirl, I am so happy that you like the show, Ross...
supertrouper - 29.09.2007, 11:07

It was the first time i'd been to see an ABBA tribute band and the first time i'd seen "ABBA" live so to speak They were fantastic. There were about 5 original ABBA musicians playing as guests. My only critisims would be that too many songs were missing, ie Summer Night City, Name Of The Game, One Of Us to name just 3. Also for some reason Frida sang Winner Takes It All and Agnetha sang I Have A Dream. Now i'm going to see Voulez Vous in February. Just wanted to share this with you.

Anthony.
kitty-cat - 29.09.2007, 11:10

I was supposed to go and see Voulez Vous a couple of years ago, and i didnt get to go, apparently it was a great show. I am wary of tribute bands, i dont like them but I would have loved to have seen this show, and with original abba musicians too!!That would be amazing. How weird though that Frida sang TWTIA and Agnetha sang IHAD  that sounds so odd lol!!! I'm glad you had a good time all of you who went...

Gill xx
supertrouper - 29.09.2007, 11:24

My friend who I went with was quite upset they didn't play 2 of his favourite songs, Angeleyes and One Of Us. He said Voulez Vous are brilliant because they play all of the hits. Now I don't usually like cover bands but I'm not going to see ABBA live am I? So I will check VV out when they come to East London in February next year.

Anthony.
kitty-cat - 29.09.2007, 11:26

Angeleyes is my favourite too Anthony lol!! How could they not play it

Gill xx
supertrouper - 29.09.2007, 11:34

Having said all that, I still thoroughly enjoyed the show, having never seen ABBA live myself, its the next best thing. The girls were great singers and it was spooky how alike "The Blonde One" was to Agnetha. They wore the original costumes too. The highlight for me was Eagle. Wow, Lasse Wellander was amazing on guitar. I hope the show was recorded and will be released one day.

Before i clicked on waterloo, looking at the little picture, it could have been the real ABBA, except for the noticible red band around ''agnetha's'' waist, which i think is part of a top she's wearing underneath hehe

Looked like a good show

WATERL00 - 07.10.2007, 17:59

I think they are very good for a cover-band, I was just listening to Ring Ring - it really sounds similar to ABBA, not the same though but quite close especially since thy rely on real instruments and don't have those cryppy synth-backing-tracks. The ABBA-sound was also due to the rich instrumentations and this is something most ABBA-tributes lack bacause a big band or orchester is probably the most expensive part of such a show.
Polargirl - 08.10.2007, 21:25

Their Ring Rind sounded great - especially the first couple of verses which were sung in Swedish - I've always loved that version best and it was fantastic to hear it sung live, even if not by the original ABBA. :D
DESIGNER - 11.10.2007, 17:57

Hi every one, and hi supertrouper, the reason for the one person singing one song and another person singing another song is when I saw Waterloo in the US they sang Take A Chance On Me and Katja Nord did the high part because Camilla Hrdren does not have the rang like Agnetha. That was ok with me because they put on a grate show.
supertrouper - 12.10.2007, 19:25

Hi Designer.

Thanks for explaining why the leads were swapped on The Winner Takes It All and I Have A Dream. But it was still very strange to see and hear.

They're also planning concerts outside the UK like for instance the Netherlands. ABBA The Show can be viewed here in both Amsterdam as Rotterdam, and the old musicans will be there as well to support them.

Though I would love to see the people in action who worked with the real four back then, I absolutely can not stand tribute bands, and I won't be spending any money on it for sure.
ullabba - 15.12.2007, 11:57

The show is coming to Finland in March -08 for three show dates (and towns). I have tickets to the show on 2nd March. I have heard only good things about ABBA The Show, so I hope it will be a very good evening.
DayBeforeUCame - 15.12.2007, 12:22

Ulla, I went and saw it at Royal Albert Hall back in Sept and was very impressed. It was great seeing all the musicians which played with ABBA, and if you closed your eyes for a second, I slightly believed I was watching ABBA back in '79 - if only!!
You will have a good night.

The evening of my birthday is going to be more fun for you than for me!
ullabba - 03.03.2008, 14:44

Well, I saw the show on Saturday, March 1, actually. It was a very pleasant evening, but rather predictable. From a far, the girls did look a lot like the originals. I sat on the 7th row (I booked for 3rd row, but they had to make seating adjustments and mine was one of the re-arranged ones). I wish they had played some of the "less known" songs, but I guess everyone who is not a fan like me wants to hear the wellknown popular songs and nothing new. I liked the instrumental parts in between, when the girls went to change costumes, especially Intermezzo vol. 1 was absolutely wonderful - and Suzy-hang-around was better than the original, honestly! 8)

The costumes were wonderful to see, too. So alike the originals. I liked seeing esp. "Frida" making the gestures that real Frida used to make on stage - and "Agnetha's" walk with moving her bottom was a good copy work, too! And the girls hanging around the bass player's legs... ah, as it was in -79

The visiting act was saxophonist Ulf Andersson (only him).

The first 50 min was in chronological order, but the second half was not - and believe it or not, that disturbed me a little! As did the narrator's remark of "the divorce was inevitable" - and then it was time to sing The winner takes it all. Bah.

Also the narrator was a little strange. No problem at all that he spoke English, but somehow I didn't see a narrator fit in the show.

The orchestra was great, the acoustics were great (although the concert venue was rather not a normal one, an indoors sports hall where people usually play basketball and volleyball...), after the break half of the audience finally started dancing (we Finns are hard to please sometimes, we do like the concerts, but it is hard for us to just get up and dance...) and by the end of the concert, most people seemed extatic.

Anyway... Despite some small things that irritated me, I enjoyed the show, as did my husband. He bought me a ABBA The Show mug :D I was happy to be able to see the show in a neighbouring town, as I would not have travelled to far to see it. We paid 52e/ticket which was a little too high for such a venue (sportshall).
