abba now and in the past
Hello,
I am very surprised by many topics and the fact that many of us are very young. At the same, when i speak about abba with young boys or ladies, i think always "well, they must be thinking, i am an old daddy", and it's a pleasure to see how much they love abba. For them, it's not poker or out of fashion.
I remember in the eighties when the group disbanded, abba was out of fashion, not perhaps Frida because she sung "there's something goign on" and workes with Lillywhite who was the more trendy producer then. After ten years of glory and incredible success, musical fashion was for the new wave and ghtoic style with many good bands like the cure, simple minds, depeche mode etc.
Today, abba is appreciate by many generations.
Best regards,
Pierre

I agree, it's fun to see so many young people liking ABBA. Maybe the internet has something to do with it? I think teens for example like to chat and be on forums a lot and when they like ABBA they will come to this or any other forum and then they are hooked!
Also on the ABBA fanclub day you will see a lot of young people.

Perhaps that's because you ARE an old daddy, Pierre.
:rotfl:
But you're right, I'm surprised too to find so many younger fans around. But among my friends at my age there still are many that start to grin when I confess my passions. It's only that meanwhile I am old and self-conscious enough not to care about it.

Here! What can I say? I just love the music they made, and that's the most important thing. Later, I found out all those weird outfits and gossips, and ABBA's fame. When I was a 10 year-old girl, I got my first CD and there was a photo on it, at the backside of the cover. It showed my four people who were of course the former members and I thought they were fascinating. (especially the blond one really - later I found out here name)
I like old(er) music in any ways, including the 'gothic bands' you mentioned like Depeche Mode and The Cure: ABBA and those bands are both on my mp3player. The only fact is that I can't hardly talk to others from my age about music, because I simply don't like most of the songs from the Top 40. So older forum members are not the problem actually. ;) As long as I can talk about this fantastic music, it's fine with me.

abba now
Yes Johnny, you are right, i am "an old daddy"  and my daughter says always that she wants that i stay young for her future children (perhaps, soon because she is in love). For that, i will ask you: my friend Johnny, you so young, how do you do ?? :D :D :D :D
I do, i do, i do....
Best regards,
Pierre

Having been born in the mid-seventies, I have no memories of ABBA during the time they were together. The first time I remember hearing any of their music was sometime around 1994(96 maybe?) when Dancing Queen was popular for a while. I remember seeing the two girls singing it in the video and thinking "Wow, how come I've never seen this before?"
I never really starting listening to their music, however, until last year when I found a bunch of their videos online, and got hopelessly hooked on ABBA. I've never been so dedicated to a musical act, and since then I've been collecting as many of their albums and records that I can get my hands on. Just last week I finally obtained the 30th Anniversary Arrival Deluxe Edition.
So yes, ABBA was a bit before my time, but the quality of their product is excellent, and for some reason it just doesn't seem too "dated" for me. I don't know why that is. This is strange because I've never really liked most of the other bands from the past such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc. Maybe it's because ABBA just feels a little more modern than other bands from that era.

Some very good points raised by everyone. I think it just shows how great ABBA where as Preformers and writers/producers. Their music is timeless and it is nice too see the really younger ones take a good intrest.

As I've said before I'm pleased but also rather envious of new, young fans discovering ABBA's music for the first time.

Hi everyone:
I started loving ABBA since January 2005. My ex-partner was the person who influenced me to listen to the wonderful ABBA music, although I already have ABBA Gold and More Gold since 2000. And it feels nice to see how "old music" it's so good and much more better than most of the music we hear today.
