Frida's 1977 tour shorts
Since there is a topic about Agnetha's bottom in spandex, I thought it was high time for Frida's bottom in hotpants to have her very own.
I had always wondered why Frida wore the longer slacks as part of her tour outfit during the European part of the 77 tour and those ultra short hotpants during the Australian part. Whenever I brought the subject up in any forum people came with answers like: it's colder in Europe. Or She wore both in Australia.
Not very satisfying answers!
Until I got my big chance last year: Owe Sandström was making an appearance at the annual ABBA day in Roosendaal. Aha!
When Owe was showing the outfits he brought a long there was also a possibility to chat to him and ask him questions. Now tell me Owe?
His answer was actually just as I expected: Frida likes to change outfits and she asked him to make a short version of the satin slacks. Besides she likes to expose herself!
So on tour in Australia they brought along both long and short version but she only wore the shorts.
Because she loved to expose herself :D

That seems to be the logical answer to tell you the truth, it is colder in Europe during those months, being in the northern hemisphere, and warmer in Australia during that time being in the southern hemisphere. What type of "satisfaction" were you looking for Bonnie? (Hehehe) :lol:

Well that's Owe's opinion, he is a little "odd" if you ask me anyways. BUT (no pun intended), I did hear Frida say on a Australian interview in 1976 that she was an "exhibitionist", so it might be that Owe is correct. :)

PS: Actually in my (not so humble) opinion, Frida looked mighty good in those shorts in the 77 Aussie tour, she had nothing to be ashamed of that's for sure. :thumbup: Agnetha got all the "bottom" attention, but Frida was right there with her in that respect from my "point of view". :wink:

Maybe Frida was fed up with all the Agnetha-bum-talk and made sure that her bum was presented in the correct way.

I loved the outfits Frida wore in the 1977 Australian Tour they were fantastic.
No matter what she wore even in the later 1979 & 1980 North American & Japanese Tour were great as well.
Frida Like Agnetha is lucky in the fact that they had the figure. Spandex does not do a lot for you unless you have the perfect figure.

I loved the outfits Frida wore in the 1977 Australian Tour they were fantastic.
No matter what she wore even in the later 1979 & 1980 North American & Japanese Tour were great as well.

Frida looked absaloutly stunning and dare i say i thought Frida was very sexy in both styles of shorts (this comeing from a gay man) :lol:,I was not surprised with Owe's answer iether because Frida has always said that she loved to be onstage she also commented that she helped design some of the stage outfits and was very much a driveing force behind the fashions and clothes they had wore! I also agree Frida certainly had lovely long legs to show those shorts :wink:

Ahem, it is not that logical in fact. Frida could have worn steaming-hot shorts in the European leg of tour as well, because they played in closed concert halls. Once you start jumping and dancing on the stage, and Frida is famous for it, you get warmer anyway.
As for the fact that it is warmer in Australia, how would you explain Agnetha's white spandex + the boots? Well, both of them wore boots in Australia. :wink:

Being ABBA's designer, he certainly knows how they feel about the clothes, especially Frida because she likes designing clothes so they did talk a lot about the subject I guess. She can sew as well! 8)
Anyway, she did look HOT in the shorts, exposing not only the bum but those shapely legs of hers as well. A great choice!
When I come to think of it, Frida would look sexy in just about anything she would wear, even if she were to wear a potato sack! :lol:

I'm "afraid" Frida doesn't attract sweatty and obsessed crowds, or maybe it has something to do with a lack of butter? Those hotpants must have been easy to put on, although she had to be careful with her stockings she wore with them. But hey, that's peanuts for a real lady as Frida is :wink:

Does spandex have insulating qualities? As sheer as it is I wouldn't think it does. From a few select pictures of Agnetha in her spandex body suit, she looks a bit cold.... :P . Just a guess though as I've never had an occasion to wear spandex myself (to everyones relief I might add).

The outfits of the 1977 tour were among the best they ever wore, imo. Both girls looked absolutely stunning. When I look at "The Movie" I can't keep my eyes off them.
Still, Kylie Minogue proved that the shorts could get shorter and tighter, (see "Spinning around" video). Maybe Frida's outfit was the inspiration for this.
The outfits of the 1977 tour were among the best they ever wore, imo. Both girls looked absolutely stunning. When I look at "The Movie" I can't keep my eyes off them.

That is, a highly curved spine and extreme pelvic angle. Because her back was concave, her front was convex; a feature that was apparent in some costumes.
All things considered, I think that Frida's figure could handle short shorts better than Agnetha's. The ABBA girls never "exposed" themselves just to gain attention; and the costumes (shorts, spandex and all) were part of the show.
To make it today, both girls would need boob jobs and more. However, I don't recommend they shave their heads. Whatever happened to the good ol' days when entertainment was entertaining - audibly and visually.

Of course this is all a matter of personal taste, there isn't a wrong or right or bad or good in a discussion as this. For myself, it's not just the blonde hair (I married a blonde BTW), Agnetha has a somewhat exotic facial structure, that's what makes it so mesmerizing. In my opinion a "perfect" facial structure is not interesting, It's the flaws that makes any particular women go from pretty to stunning, as strange as that might sound.
Frida, to me, has always had a "mature" beauty, even when she was very young, which I think is why she still looks so great. At 20 she had the look of someone 35, but at 50 she still looked 35, even today if someone said she was 45 (and I didn't know better) I would probably buy it.
Agnetha on the other hand has always been attractive in a more "cute" respect, cute to the point of being stunningly adorable.

Of course this is all a matter of personal taste, there isn't a wrong or right or bad or good in a discussion as this. For myself, it's not just the blonde hair (I married a blonde BTW), Agnetha has a somewhat exotic facial structure, that's what makes it so mesmerizing. In my opinion a "perfect" facial structure is not interesting, It's the flaws that makes any particular women go from pretty to stunning, as strange as that might sound.
Frida, to me, has always had a "mature" beauty, even when she was very young, which I think is why she still looks so great. At 20 she had the look of someone 35, but at 50 she still looked 35, even today if someone said she was 45 (and I didn't know better) I would probably buy it.
Agnetha on the other hand has always been attractive in a more "cute" respect, cute to the point of being stunningly adorable.

For example Madonna has become famous for her writhing around on stage as if she was engaged in the sexual act. Britney Spears and many other female pop stars today emulate Madonna's pornographic stage act. There is a difference between "sexy" and "sexual", our ABBA ladies being the former, the female pop stars of today being the latter.
My personal preference is the ABBA approach, it's a bit of a tease but still centers on the music which is the main reason why someone goes to a concert or watches a music video (I assume). If I want the sexual approach I can always go to a strip club, they play music there also.
As a final thought, I wish they would move back to the sexy approach in modern pop music, if they spent more effort on the music rather than the stage show I might start listening to pop music again.

The bottom talk actually started in during the 1974/75 tour. So right about the time that picture Belinda posted was taken. Agnetha was sporting some tight white spandex by then as well. And Björn called her the woman with the best bum during a concert, so voilà!

Frida is gorgeous. I have always thought that both Agnetha and Frida were equally beautiful. Frida was a grown-up woman during ABBA while Agnetha still had a lot of teenager in her. I think Agnetha was really hot AFTER ABBA, say at the end of 1980's.

Just out of Interest has any one got the shot of Frida slipping over and falling on stage in Australia. I believe she was wearing those shorts when it happened, Apparently is was due ti the Rain on the stage.

Agree with you there DancingQueen, It is amazing to see Agnetha and Frida Dancing Around on stage in some of those boots with those heels on.
It's a miracle they never fell more often or injured themselves

It's good for Frida it only happened once. :lol: Well, I am not sure about that. It could have happened more times than the one and only famous 'ABBA risked their lives' in the Australian press.
Still, those kind of heels are horrible anyway. It's a threat for your feeth to walk on shoes like that. However, I bought new ones last week. :roll:

Actually when I was younger I used to wear stilettos very often. It was no problem for me to run, dance and jump when I had them on. It just takes some practicing.
Looking at all those ABBA and Frida pics from those days it seems she almost only wore high heels. Made her look taller I suppose 8)

hello
in the 70's everyone had platforms so i bought a pair.
i wore them for about 4 days then threw them away.
i valued my life as well as my ankles too much.
we used to have a mate we called Paddington because the front of her shoes was 4 inches , let alone the heel.
(Paddington is a rail station with "a lot of platforms").
