Agnetha's quotes
Hi guys,
I've found this Agnetha's quotes to share them with you all, I hope you like them!
"The driving force wasn’t so much to be visible as a person as to show my talent."
"You could say that ABBA was brought together by love. Björn and I were in love with each other, and the same was true of Benny and
Anni-Frid. Everybody was in love and we were turned on by each other, not least when we were working together."
"To participate in the creation of the songs and try to interpret them in your own way was the best part of being in ABBA."
"It's always fun to do something that is your own thing completely, and there is no getting away from the fact that when you are working within a group, you inevitably have to make compromises."
"I am enormously self-critical, which means that most of my own compositions are thrown in the wastepaper basket."
"When be began with ABBA we were two couples, now we are four individuals".
"Agnetha could be anybody, but Agnetha Fältskog is only me."
"When I’m living in the world of luxury and celebrity, which is where I found myself for a large part of my life, it’s a walk-on part. Not a vital necessity, like it is for so many people. I enjoy it but I can see right through it!"
"I can spot empty flattery and know exactly where I stand. In the end it’s really only my own approval or disapproval that means anything."
"I may have aimed too high sometimes, asked too much of myself and demanded too little from those around me."
"There is a danger of changing too much in the search for perfection."
"It has always felt like a failure that Björn and I couldn’t keep our family together. You never get it back, but to this day I don’t regret splitting up. The reason behind our separation is one of those things I definitely don’t want to go into!"
"ABBA’s last tour was a success, but awful for me."
"I have always had strong maternal instincts. Even when I was still a child I cut out pictures of prams from newspapers and imagined the feeling of pushing my own pram through fresh winter snow and seeing the wheels’ tracks behind me in the snow."
"My professional persona never loosens its grip, keeping an eye on me at all times."
"This idea of trying to repeat a success doesn’t interest me. It’s only really
done to make money."
"I don’t want to hide the fact that Frida and I had opposite backgrounds, temperaments and personalities."
"My path has not been determined. I shall have more experiences and
pass many more milestones."
"It’s strange that the newspapers don’t see a connection between their false revelations about my private life and my need for seclusion and security."
"There was a time when the music fell silent. Both within me and around me."
"I must be allowed to be as I am."
Love,
Andrea 8)

I have to defend myself against lies. In the beginning when Björn and I were married, we gave interviews to certain tabloids because we thought it was fun and we didn't have a greater need for a private life. But that trust was abused and just because I agreed to it as an 18-year old, it doesn't mean that the tabloids owe me for the rest of my life. But I enjoy to talk about my work.
I'm a more down-to-earth person. The important thing to me is simple, to be healthy. Nature, spring and smells. It sounds banal and simple but that's the way it is. Of course I'm privileged and spoilt with being able to buy some salmon every now and then and drink champagne, but it doesn't happen daily.

I love her for comments like that. Because you see that she really thinks and lives what she says.
I don't know if this is a typical swedish-behaviour but I never saw such down-to-eart persons anywhere else. Even if celebreties like Madonna, Robby Williams, Paris Hiltone tc. say that every now and then that they are normal persons, I don't believe them. if any former ABBA-member says anything like that it appears true to me.

That is something that I wish everyone would get to experience within their field of work. To be up there, receive all the compliments, meet all the people - but also being subjected to so many things. The winds are cold up there. You're surrounded by many jealous glances and thoughts. There's also a strong, sometimes ruthless, competition. It feels good to having experienced it and actually worked my way through it.
I don't think it's really true that it makes you a complete person just because you have someone by your side. The loneliness can also be very stimulating. You can sense your freedom.

This one, from 1971, is rather sweet until the last amusing 5 words:
Today Björn and I have been engaged for one year. He means so much to me, because I love him. I feel safe with him, he’s caring, he spoils me, he brings me flowers after I have finished cleaning!

It's like I've been marked for life. There were so many people who were called something with ABBA. At first there were the four of us, then it was "ABBA-Stikkan", "ABBA-Stikkan's wife Gudrun" and even one of my ex-boyfriends, Dick Håkansson, was called "ABBA-Dick" for a while. I mean, it sounds crazy. I have my name and my own identity.

Did I say very happy? I simply would be out of my mind.

Yeah... like a true :innocent: Aries.
My favourite quote has to do with a certain red-head and it is an answer to a question from the 2004 interview "Which member of ABBA would you like to be" and she said: "Frida". Well, that is logical. Nobody expected her to say... Bjorn! Or the bearded one.. hehe.

Do I understand here that she means all those little rivets in the panels of a plane's wings (that you see when you look out the aircraft window)?
Hmm, I've often nervously gazed out at those - not without a little bit of dread, I must say. So many rivets... you start imagining... surely ONE might come loose!
Try to avoid plane windows, Agnetha. An aisle seat avoids you and I thinking too much about what might go wrong.

Crazy indeed when you consider that Agnetha was already a succesfull singer in Sweden before ABBA. On top of that did she record 11 albums... 3 more than with ABBA!

You have no idea how nervous I am if there’s a press conference. I become very shy when I attend an event where I’m supposed to be in the center of attention. It’s the same at parties, if I walk into a room and everybody turns around and looks at me… I feel so lost.

Ron, isn't it ironic she filmed her worst fear in the Can't Shake Loose promo video where she knocks over a tray of drinks at the party and everyone stares at her. I wonder if that was her idea, or the director's?I thought it was funny at the time.
Still I think she did a good job to overcome, or hide her fears of interviews if not press conferences. During her 80's solo career, she looked quite at ease and natural to me in Breakfast Shows, Wogan and others to promote her 3 albums.
Anyway...it hasn't got to do with the money.
Agnetha on Wogan 1987, when asked by Wogan why she is still recording in 1987 when you would have thought that with all her wealth, she would buy a house in the fjords and stay there.
Hmmmm ...you think Wogan got her thinking about retirement after the inteview?

I notice how they never say "Abba Frida" or "Abba Benny", "Abba Bjorn".....or Do they?

When Abba came to an end she said sth in the lines of: "I will never be an Abba-girl again". But even after almost 30 years, reporters still refer to her as Agnetha from Abba or Agnetha The Abba Blonde, or simply Abba-Agnetha. That's how most people still recognize her, especially out of Sweden or Scandinavia., and those, who are not such a devoted fans as we are.

“The success is the most important thing for Björn and Benny. They don’t have much interest in the money. I wouldn’t know what to do when everything would be all over, because it would be devastating to Björn. That’s why I will keep on going for the time being!”
that's from a newspaper article from 1977. I find it kinda sad actually. who knows if she really said it like that but if she did that says quite a lot.

Agnetha was ambitious but I guess when ABBA had not become as big as they did she would not have had a problem with being a full time mother for some years. Over a decade later that is exactly what she did!
