    PICTURES/JAN+FEB07: THE OVERLAND TRACK (TASMANIA)

"The Overland Track is one of Australia's most well known bush walks, situated in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania. Attracting over 8000 walkers each year, it runs from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair through the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, winding through terrain ranging from sheer mountains and wild rivers to alpine plains and tundra. It has several alternative side trails, but from either end the track is about 80 km long. Notable features of the area include Cradle Mountain, Mount Ossa (the tallest mountain in Tasmania), a group of tarns called The Labyrinth, and Lake St Clair (the deepest lake in Australia). World renown for its pristine environment and beauty, the walk has been compared to New Zealand's Milford Track.

Inexperienced walkers are advised to undertake the walk in summer, when the days are longer and the weather milder. The walk is not challenging provided that walkers are adequately prepared with proper equipment.

Walkers typically complete the trail in 5-6 days, normally south-bound. The record time is 7 hours and 25 minutes, which was achieved by Andy Kromar during the Cradle Mountain Run."

$100 was the amount we had to pay for one of those passes that nobody wanted to see during the walk. In the background you can see the our car which is called "FUCKUP" since January, 1st.

    2

And here we go, prepared for all weathers besided hot+sunny days. Just seemed to be too far away from reality. Well, in the end we even went swimming... kind of at least.

    5

    6

Cradle Mountain, which gave name to the National Park.

    7

Snowman time! Hah! Even in Down Under I was able to build one! Haaarhrhrrrrhrhrrrrrr XD

    8

    Kitchen Hut. Breakfast time.

    9

Whatever I've said before, this wallaby is just bloody cute...

    10

The wallaby in the background is Donnie.

    11

First picture taken of a jumping one. (:

    12

    Iiiiieks! What a funny creature...

    13

    14

After we skipped the first hut we've spent the night in this one: "Windermere".

    15

Rainy day... the first two days we actually felt rather like on an "Underwater Track" (Donnie). Wet from toe to head.

    20

    21

But our tins gave us KRAFT (power): Spaghetti+Meatballs for me, Vegetable Soup and baked Beans for Donnie (:

    22

    23

    24

    25

Everybody tried to find a place for his or her sodden clothes on the oven, what a chaos!

    26

Next morning, another bunch of sweet little wallabys.

    27

Our favorite - and at the same time biggest - hut: New Pelion.

    28

    29

What a cutie... dadammm... who needs love and sex while watching that a cute thing?

    30

    Me.

    31

This bastard has bitten me while sitting on the toilet. Iiiiiks!

    32

    33

And back again into a wet, wet world...

    34

    35

    36

    37

This part of the track was the most enchanting one... a dreamlike valley which reminded me of Jurassic Park XD (In the background: Mt. Ossa - Tasmania's rooftop!)

    38

    39

    40

    41

    42

After skipping another hut we arrived in "Windy Ridge", completely exhausted and mentally destroyed - there is only one emotion I connected to that part of the track: pure, uncontrolled cynical hate. Horror XD One day I will wake up in the morning next to somebody very very familar, who spoils my lips witch enchanting kisses and I will tell to myself... Mountain in Tasmania, so far far away, you.can.suck.my.goddamn.cock! (X
Just kiddin'... you know, I love you, nature...

    43

Hrhrhrrr... hilarious, isn't it? Entrys from the hut's logbook.

    44

    45

    46

    47

    48

Cynthia Bay - the final target in the southern end of the track... only five hours away... +sigh+

    49

    50

    51

Lake St. Clair, Australia's deppest, by the way.

    52

    53

One of many, many... innumerous breaks, actually, we've taken. This is the very last one before we finally arrived in C.B. I'm currently eating dried apples on here. Perfect for that walk...

    54

And here we go - the first time we had to build up the tent ^^

    55

Full moon rise over Lake St. Clair.

    56

Donnie and Micha, the Austrian lad we got to know about four nights and huts before we also spent the last one together... having a hilarious laugh about all that shit that happened to us... oh. Did I mention those two tiker snakes (Tasmania's most venemous) whi encountered us? Beautiful creatures (I was fakkin' scared) and what about the wallabys... have I mentioned the wallabys?! (just kiddin')

    57

Some time we discovered this curious and hungry possum, trying to find a hole in our tent. For we closed the zips properly we left him alone at first....

    58

    59

    60

Hmmm.... I currently forgot what Donnie wanted to show us? Donnie, do you remember? It was probably kind of funny for I've taken a picture to remind me of... what was it? Aaaah... das Opussum?! Shit, you tried to draw the shape of an "Opussum" in the sand.. goddamn.

    61

Ah, back to the possum: here it tried to find a way in the tent's backside (probably the place where I put the open salami) and after I tried to scare it away be touching it with my pointy finger...

    62

...it rushed further up in the tent and disappeared!

    63

Ahh... see this somewhat strange looking shape? That's the possum!

    64

Finally it somehow managed it to rip apart the upper tent (the wind protection) and at one stage I've thought we've killed it as I've seen a bunch of not moving brown furlike something, lying on the ground... "What the hell are we doing we this carcass now?!" was what I've thought of... shut, but it was only a bunch of clothes... what the hell -

    65

Direct confrontation: possum against Donnie! What are the odds!?

    66

And here it tries to continue making trouble with our other neighbour's tent... and if nobody has killed it so far it is still busy with destroying poor backpacker's tents in the Cradle Mountain lake St. Clair National Park...

    67

And one more time Devonport... it's February, 3rd and we are exactly four months on the road...
