In the Arms of Rosalita
Anyone else think this is a far better title than Chiquitita?

'fraid not. Far too long winded. But I wouldn't mind hearing the proper demo of it 'cos Frida sings more on it.

No. Chiquitita is one of my all time favs as is.
DistantDrums - 16.01.2007, 16:43

I wouldn't know!, I've only heard a tiny snippet of it on "The Winner Takes It All" Documentary from 1999

(happy as you can be) "In the arms of Rosalita" implies a lovesong in fact.

But Chiquitita or Rosalita - I'd say Chiquitita.

Willie

Same goes for me I'd like every one would love to hear the full demo version of this song, before making a decision.

But I do love Chiquitita

No, I'll go for Ciquitita! :D
Cabbadian - 18.01.2007, 21:06

I would love to hear Frida sing solo to the music and melody of Chiquitita.
This is one song where I think the vocals should've been switched with Frida on lead and Agnetha on background.

I have to disagree with you here, I'm afraid. I do think Frida would have done a grand job but imho I think this is one song that either girl could have excelled in. Of course it would be nice to hear Frida's 'take' on it, too but not 'instead' of.. if you get my drift.

Hi all!

Let's face facts, all of us die hard Abba fans would probably love to hear both ladies sing leads on all songs!!! If you love both of them as much as I love them you would agree with me. I love the qualities in both of their voices and would love to hear for example Frida on TWTIA and Agnetha on Fernando just to name a few. It would be interesting and exciting I might add to have heard the different takes on all of the songs. I know this is quite impractical but I can dream!!!

So yes getting back to the topic I too have heard the snippet of In the arms of Rosalita on the Winner Takes it all documentary and thought it sounded great!!!

Chiquitita means "Little Girl" in Spanish. Therefore, especially considering that it was written for the "A Gift of Song" Unicef Concert and all proceeds were donated to Unicef in perpetuity, I think Chiquitita is a perfect name for the song.

Cheers!

Matt hopefully one day we may hear the alternate version of This song In The Arms Of Roslita, I am sure it will happen One day.............

I am one in as people know on this site saying never say never.

We sadly may have to wait until both B & B have passed away. ( and that 'aint gonna be for years yet )
But I reckon it will probally happen after that or maybe The Boys may have a change of mind. Stranget Things have happened.

Most of the time when Benny and Björn changed or rewrote songs the change was for the better, so I suspect Chiquitita is better than In the Arms of Rosalita. I too have heard only the bit on Super Troupers so I can't state that definitively.

Anyway, if they'd released the song as originally recorded, they would have had the option of shortening the title to simply "Rosalita". Then we could all sit back and watch the fun as people confuse it with Bruce Springsteen's Rosalita. Which is a great song -- check it out sometime.

As I said Stranger things have happened. From the snippet I heard it sounded rather nice.
I'm sure there is a completed version somewhere....

Actually this was another song that should have been released on the TYFTM-Box-set in 1994. But as Just Like That and Just A Notion Benny and Björn eventually vetoed against such a release.

Michael B. Tretow compiled a track called the Chiquitia-story - a meldey similar to ABBA undeleted. Extracts from different eraly and alternate versions were mixed together so that the listener could listen to the work and progress of this song. Starting with the early demo-backings called Kålsupare and Three Wise Guys also parts of the early versions called In The Arms Of Rosalita (with lead-vocals by Frida) and Chiquitita Angelina (with lead vocals by both ladies) were incluedes as well as the final english and spanish versions.

In the booklet there is even a ote that says such a track is included on Disc 4. However this never happened because Benny and Björn though they would bore the buyers. (I wonder how they could think of something like that????)

So there are at least two alternate versions in the vaults and the described medley. At least that medley is ready for release just like Just Like That and Just A Notion. Would be enough for a Maxi-CD that could bring ABBA back to number one...

BUT sadly two greyed men in Sweden would never allow a release like that...
Maxi-saxi - 25.02.2007, 05:36

I could not have put it bette Waterloo, and you know what really bugs me is to hear both Boys say now They consider these songs Half ABBA Half Mamma Mia. Not the material still sitting in the vaults but the stuff out there. We can only hope maybe one day they may relent and release but I hate to say it we may have to wait untill they both are no longer here....

And then it would be their children I suppose..

Maxi-saxi

But I still hope one day they may relent, I read were Carl Magnus Palm was wanting to release everything in The ABBA vaults in a way they done with Anthology for the Beatles, and he said then it would take a lot of work to make them see things in a different light.

He said he hopes oneday..
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 07:35

Good call, Maxi. The Beatles Anthology comparison had occurred to me, too. Some of the stuff on Anthology would never have seen the light of day during the Beatles' active career nor for years after. But so much time had passed The Beatles knew that people would listen to these songs as interesting historical artifacts -- works in progress, experiments, snapshots of developing artists -- not as finished artistic statements.

Benny and Björn have already consented to release some archival material (on the TYFTM box set). I guess there's some hope they might be amenable to more releases as time gives them more distance from old, incomplete, or "inadequate" but historically interesting material.

I agree Daniel & Fire & Ice, Fans are bored With the same Stuff again & Again & AGAIN...
I reckon they should do a ABBAsite only CD release with unique material on it, and they should have it available for sale to US!

Maxi-saxi
Anyway if you have ever read The complete recording sessions Book your mind will boggle at the material still waiting to be heard.
