ABBA's Music & Younger Generation
You will love this,
My next store neighbour had her niece over to see me the other Day.
Jaine, who has just turned 4. I had ABBA on and Janie said There the people who sang the cat song.
Cat song! Tiger.
I said I had the clip of Tiger and showed it to her, She sang along with the song and was dancing around the lounge.
So my brother made her a copy of the track on DVD, and I gave her a copy of the CD. One of the many spares I have.
I thought How cute. A 4 year old knowing the lyrics to a ABBA song.

Children and ABBA
I think this is GREAT!
How fun that must have been to see and hear, Maxi! My daughters can sing some ABBA songs (but they probably wouldn't admit it)...my youngest likes Dancing Queen and SOS, she is 12 and likes many different types of music...it is wonderful that a four year old can sing our favorite songs.....keep teaching her and she may become a star! :D
TIGER can sure be a fun song to sing and dance to if you are a young little tyke, I am sure!!! GRRRRR!!!

It's amazing how strong ABBA's appeal remains to this day. Little children, "tweens", teenagers, and young adults are all among ABBA's fans in addition to those of us who've loved them for years.
On the old site I told the story of "outdoor education," in which a bunch of teachers and I take 5th graders (around 11 years old for those of you who don't keep track of such things) into the woods for a week to learn about nature, ecology, and conservation. The kids LOVE it. So do the adults.
Anyway, one night of the week is dance night. One of the staff plays CDs for the kids to dance to. All the "cool" girls were hanging around outside, taking their time getting a drink from the water fountain. I was appointed to herd them back into the dance in the big room. Just as I was about to open my big authoritarian grown-up mouth to order them back into the room, the door swung open and the opening glissando of Dancing Queen rang out into the night. Every single one of the "cool" girls squealed "Dancing Queen!" and streaked back into the big room to dance.
Yeah, I'd say ABBA still has quite a bit of appeal to young kids.

Great story. I feel for the younger fans because they never knew the joy of seeing ABBA enter the charts and the thrill you got when their new single first entered the charts. The photos and interviews in the magazines regularly, the 'ABBA' magazine, etc. Seems such a long time ago now
I think it's important to share our tales with the zealous younger fans and we can learn a lot from each other. In a way, I'm kind of envious of the younger fans who are discovering ABBA's music for the first time- what a buzz that must be!!! And of course ABBA have become this almost mythical group and I would love to be discovering them all over again!

hello
my youngest used to sing along to the ABBA collection when he was about 7 or 8. this continued till he was 15.
he is 16 now and he still mumbles along when he is in the room with me.
our oldest never really did although he said he likes them.
i am quite lucky in the fact that they both like rock and metal so our place usually has something good on
(even me wife , Elaine has good taste!)
and before you ask , no! we do not annoy the neighbours!
gary :D

Hi Maxi-Saxi and Everyone!
My kids (all under age 10) hear ABBA a lot! We play "name that tune" to see who can guess the song first and fastest. My older girls now choose ABBA over RadioDisney ( :!: ) and refer to the members of ABBA by name, as if they know them personally. My twin boys (3 yrs old) have toy guitars and sing parts to Chiquitita, the end of Tiger, Fernando, Moneyx3 (including the a-ha and the drum roll at the end). They all like the videos (except they haven't seen TDBYC  ), esp the Lego SOS and Moneyx3 found on YouTube.
Thanks for the opportunity to brag about my kids a bit!

Well, I think I can be a fan from the younger generation, can I? ;) Listening to ABBA is a kind of foolish now, to others. Not many people from my age seem to like them, but that's because of their image. I mean, the Beatles aren't 'cool' or something either, that's why I most of time don't want to discuss my taste of music.

You got it. That's exactly how it feels, to me, ABBA the movie is something which.. It's so weird to see all those younger fans who love ABBA if I compare it to how my classmates from the same age hate it! I am jealous at the people who made part of the audience from the group, I really am, but this is just the way it is.

abba and the new generations
Hello,
The new generations know Abba and that's great because, here in France, they don't know Blondie, Fleetwood Mac or Police, for example.
My childrens love abba, not like me because they are fans from the new generation (R.Williams, K.Minogue, Franz Ferdinand, K.Mellua etc) but they see "will and grace" or "boston justice" or "malcolm" and they hear in this sitcom speaking about Mama Mia or singing Fernando etc.
One of mine daughter is fan from the swedish band "i am from barcelona" who says that abba was the best pop band.
Universal must be create a good project about abba for the young generation, with a new sound and great clip. It will be a succes, i am sure.

See Daniel how ABBA helps you in your work! Such a great story! :D
Did you join the kids on the dance floor?
I teach kids between 14 and 18. I occasionally hear "Honey honey" or "MMMoney" in class, depending on the text or topic we do. Once as I was standing in for a teacher, the kids offered to entertain me and sings songs in English, Fernando being among them.
Talking about pre-teens, my son likes Ring Ring. (and Agnetha  )

Isn't it amazing how young kids like this song? I've had an experience with two girls, one was 10 at the time she had listened to Definitive collection at my place. The second she heard and saw MMM we had to repeat it endlessly. She never saw the rest of the DVD.
The other one is my cousin who is just three, and though her mother tongue is definitely not English, she can sing (mostly out of tune lol) MMM. She had heard it on Singstar for the first time. We had a great experience today and I got a video and some pics which won't be up for some time. :P
It is great to know ABBA still possesses that magic and young ones can really feel it. How cool is that!

Very 8) . Great music will always survive though in our house I have to admit that there is a slight case of musical indoctrination going on (hee hee).
(Although the wife plays Amy Winehouse all the time and I have yet to hear my daughter ask for "No No No" i.e rehab).
