Did Abbadabbadoo air in the United States?
Was the 1976 ABBA special ever aired on television in the U.S.A.? If so, was it subtitled? :?:

According to the ABBA On TV web site, there was no American broadcast of the show, here is what it says:
26 or 27 October 1976 - Australia on Channel 9 (programme had been re-titled "ABBA From the Beginning")
Friday November 5th 1976 in Sweden in Channel 2 at 8pm and again on 14th July 1987 in Sweden as part of "Det var då i TV2"

Bruce

Although they appeared on some variety shows over here, ( SNL, Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, Merv Griffin etc...) I don't recall there ever being an ABBA "Special" televised. I did happen to see about the last minute of some sort of ABBA documentary on PBS earlier this year. I have no clue what it was about because it was ending just as I hit the station.

As far as I know, the only specials shown on US TV during ABBA's time were the Olivia! special (made in and for the US) and ABBA In Concert (shown on PBS in 1980).
ABBA From The Beginnning shown in Australia was an edited version of ABBA-dabba-doo!!, with most of the interviews removed (only the bits listening to their early pre-ABBA hits remained), new English narration, and a couple of songs from the TV special ABBA In Australia inserted in the middle.

Thanks, Bruce, for posting the info in regard to ABBAonTV. I think that ABBAonTV tries to be as accurate as possible. I still wonder, though, if there might have been a broadcast of it from that time, somewhere in America, that's been forgotten about. It would be nice to think that the ABBAdabbadoo special was aired at least once on one of the major networks in my country, and if so, I'd love to see a copy. If anyone has any information, please let me know! :)

I remember seeing an English version of the ABBA DABBA DOO special on US TV. It would have been about 1977 or so.
I didn't tape it and only saw it on TV that one time.
I know the in concert special was on PBS but that was shown in 1980 or so.
Maybe what I saw was a the version shown in Australia.
And yes I remember also seeing the live portion of the Dick Cavett show on PBS as well. So to have Universal say that what they released is the only good version of the concert is crazy. PBS has just the concert portion.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. I bet there's quite a number of TV appearances and specials that have been lost to time, or forgotten about. It's fun to imagine that somewhere out there - maybe in the middle of the Mojave Desert or similar place - lies a secret vault hidden deep underground containing hundreds of rare ABBA videos and memorabilia, just waiting to be discovered! lol!

The ABBA Don Kirshner's Rock Concert is available on YouTube, Maxi.
Again, the quality is not great, though. 8)

The Dick Cavett Special wasn't on PBS, that was Live In Concert. It was shown on network TV. I still have all the TV guide clippings for their appearances. I forwarded all the contact information of KTLA TV to Carl Magnus Palm to forwarrd to Universal prior to the release of the CSR Boxset to see if they might stil have the footage in their archives. I don't know if anything ever came of it.
And to my knowledge, ABBADABBADOO was never shown on US TV.

We did get the Dick Cavett Special. I was referring to a post above where someone said it was shown on PBS. It was shown on network TV.
Live In Concert was shown on PBS

Hi every one, P.B.S. this last summer were showing ABBA the Concert,
it started in the west and only made it to the Midwest. I saw ABBA the history on P.B.S. going on now four years ago. The P.B.S. show is what
sparked my interest in ABBA.

I never saw it on TV in the U.S. and I read that it never was broadcast nationally. If it was shown it was a local thing. It would have helped them if it was shown.Overall ABBA's presense on U.S. TV was minimal, but deeply appreciated when they were on.
