- Mustapha Mond –



- “his second name Mond means World (French Monde, Latin Mundus), (…) Huxley may have chosen MondŽs first name for its literal meaning, “chosen” (Mustafa) and his full name may mean “Chosen one of the World”…”

- he is a member of the Alpha caste

- in his youth he was a scientist, his interest for research didnŽt conform with the world view of the social stability of the Brave New World system

- his attitude changed when he realized that “we canŽt allow science to undo its own good work”, he later was made the Resident Controller for Western Europe, one of the ten World Controllers

- he is an intelligent, patient and powerful person

- he is aware of his power and his omniscient position in the system, because “…as I make the laws, I can also break them”

- he sees through the structures of society, he is able to make a difference between the system of the Brave New World and the “Old World”

- he knows the past/history, reads forbidden books and poetry (bible/religious books, works of Shakespeare)
