If Frida could cover any songs, what's your choices.
For me:
a whiter shade of pale (procol harum);
i walk with you mama (benny and bjôrn);
woman in love (streisand)

I completely agree!

How wonderful would it be to hear Frida sing classic songs like Cry Me A River and I'm A Fool To Want You...

frida's any cover
Moonlight shadows is a song from Mike Olfield (sounding lika abba, no?)
Gunnar and Carribean, you're right about a jazz record, with covers from Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Cole Porter.
In another style, when i listened the first time "i let the music speak" from anne sofie von otter, i found that would be a perfect record for Frida (the same for Agnetha, also)

Woman In Love (Barbra Streisand) would be a good song for Frida to cover.

May I steal Johnny's idea from another thread? It is excellent!

Johnny59 wrote: I always wondered how Frida would sound covering Marlene Dietrich.

"Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuß auf Liebe eingestellt, das ist meine Welt und sonst gar nichts!"

I bet she would be great in that pose. And she probably would have no problems singing in German.

OH YES!

Every version I've ever heard ends up being a slightly new interpretation, and I'd love to hear Frida's!

She could easily do Enya type tracks. She's got the voice, but also the heart and soul for it.

drimnagh - 10.06.2007, 00:04

Some people will think this sacrilege but I'd like to hear Frida's take on Agnetha's IITYECYM. Especially to hear her sing, ''Your mind, mi mi mi mind..''.

-J

Re: if Frida could cover any song

johnny59 - 10.06.2007, 00:10

Sacrilege? I think it's not "Agnetha's" IITYECYM. She covered it too.

Re: if Frida could cover any song

drimnagh - 10.06.2007, 00:27

I know Agnetha covered it, Johnny but I feel Agnetha made it her own. I realise I am biased but I feel Agnetha's is the definitive version.:love4:

However, I would still be curious to hear Frida sing it.

Toni - 10.06.2007, 08:32

It´s good to have some training from the Games-sector. So I know what "IITYECYM" is.

"Tammy" - Debbie Reynolds

"As Tiers Go By" - Rolling Stones

"All Kinds Of Everything" - Dana

and I agree with "The Winner Takes It All". It would sound amazing with Frida´s voice. She even wanted to sing the ABBA song 1980.

Toni :)

Since Frida's voice shares many characteristics with Karen Carpenter's, that wouldn't be too much of a stretch if she covered just about any Carpenters songs. She would convey the same wonderful warm feeling Karen Carpenter did.
Actually she could do an album of just Carpenters covers. Wheee !

How about some great old tunes?

Sing Me Back Home (Before I Die) by Merle Haggard - I'll probably die of emotion if I hear Frida covering this song.

Sixteen Tons

Stand by Your Man by Tammy Wynette

Lonely Street by Willie Nelson

If You Could Read My Mind by Gordon Lightfoot

...and some more modern stuff

House of the Rising Sun by Animals

Child in Time by Deep Purple - I'd love to hear her personal interpretation of this classic.

but my most cherished dream is still to hear a jazz-standards album.....

There are so many! But here are the ones I would most like ( in no particular order!):

1. Hero - Bonnie Tyler
2. Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler
3. Son Of A Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield
4. I Know Him So Well (with Agnetha!) - from Chess
5. I Dreamed A Dream - From Les Miserables
6. Maria - Blondie
7. One Way or Another - Blondie

I would recommend watching that link if you haven't heard the song before. It's amazing, and would really suit Frida's voice, in my opinion. I also would adore to hear Frida sing anything by Bonnie Tyler or Blondie. I think she has the right edge to her voice (as she did with Fire & Ice) to do some amazing things with their songs.

And to agree with many before me, I would love to hear Frida's rendition of TWTIA. I would love to hear how she interpreted the song.
