Who said that?
hello

i was on Hangman (plug) and a clue was guessed but i do not know who said it.
so i thought rather than ruin the flow of a really wonderful game ill start a new one!

it can be any thing (even lyricks?).a short statement , a deep paragraph , anything.

who said this?...."I don't think they'll ever be big enough".

gary :D
jacko10 - 04.12.2006, 22:08

The producer played by Rik Mayall on the last video?
spong - 05.12.2006, 02:48

hello

cheers , Jack , i have that video and i feel like a right dufus now!

so your question?

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 05.12.2006, 10:35

Good one, Jacko! And Gary, don't feel bad. It was obscure, but I knew some other sweaty, obsessive ABBA fan would recognize it sooner or later.

OK, I'll make up for the obscurity of that quotation by proceeding with an easy one. Identify the source of this quote:

"I'd hate the sound of thirty thousand people booing."

--Daniel
PeopleNeedLove - 05.12.2006, 12:35

Benny in Australia in 77!!:D

I like this game.......... :P

I'll come up with a quote when I get home from school (it's 534a here in Noo Yawk, and I'm about 20% awake:lol:), or if you guys want, someone else can do one in the meantime and I won't mind........

Was that the guy who was interviewing Björn near the beginning of Super Troupers?

--Daniel
PeopleNeedLove - 06.12.2006, 03:16

^^ Nope......

It was indeed an interview, though.........

Matt
MarryMeAgnetha - 06.12.2006, 03:33

I obviously don't know, but I'll hazard one more guess. Was it Dick Cavett?

--Daniel
PeopleNeedLove - 06.12.2006, 04:38

Not Dick Cavett.

Here's the clip- Terry Wogan 87.......

MarryMeAgnetha - 06.12.2006, 09:30

Thanks for the link, Matt!

Since you gave your answer away, here's another quote:

"I draw my inspiration from all over the world: from cabaret performances, old movies, even from nature."

hello

stab in the dark (i aint half used that a lot lately)

Bjorn ?

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 09.12.2006, 03:09

Not a bad guess, Gary, but no.

This quote is from someone pretty well known to ABBA fans, but not one of The Four Members of ABBA.

--Daniel

hello

Stig ?

this may take some time , Daniel !

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 09.12.2006, 11:50

Additional hint: this individual appeared in both The Winner Takes It All and the Super Troupers DVDs. He collaborated with the ABBA members -- but not on music -- and mostly with the women.

--Daniel
spong - 10.12.2006, 01:24

hello

Pete Waterman ?

gary :D
PeopleNeedLove - 10.12.2006, 03:50

^^ Pete Waterman was my guess after reading Daniel's hint, but I don't recall ST saying he collaborated with them on anything........

I'll have to watch ST again now to find out......... :P

Matt
MarryMeAgnetha - 10.12.2006, 11:30

Nope, Waterman never collaborated with ABBA to the best of my knowledge.

The source of this quote is someone quite closely associated with ABBA's success, fame, and IMAGE.

--Daniel

hello

Michael Bo Tretow ?
sooner or later i'll run out of people !

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 10.12.2006, 11:54

Not the great Mr. Tretow.

Remember, this is someone who didn't collaborate with ABBA musically. He (yes, "he", more of a hint) collaborated with them on some other aspect of their presentation.

This one must be harder than I thought it would be.

Whoops. Sorry guys, I'm getting behind in my correspondence.

Yes, Lozzie, you're ABBASOLUTELY RIGHT!!!!!!!

(Ding! Ding! Ding! Confetti!)

Your prize: think of the next Who Said That. (Not money. You don't get any money for this. Money Money Money. You didn't actually ask for any money, but I just thought I'd mention it.)

--Daniel
spong - 24.12.2006, 20:04

hello

has Lozzie got frighrened and run off ?
or is she playing it cool ?

abswer soon , i hope.

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.12.2006, 01:14

Hey, Gary. This is a good game. OK, I'll come up with one for now to get the game going again, but I'll ask Lauren (AKA Loz, Lozzie, Lozenger, Gorgeous, The Off-Topic Fairy, and God knows what else) to come back and play some more.

Since the game's been neglected for a while, I'll come back with an easy one:

"Eurovision really just made things happen faster for ABBA. It would have happened regardless of it. After all, America and Australia aren't interested in the Eurovision."

--Daniel
spong - 28.12.2006, 23:09

hello

Bjorn ?

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 29.12.2006, 00:44

Not Björn. Since this is going slowly, I'll mention that it's not any of TAFKAA (The Artists Formerly Known As ABBA).

--Daniel
PeopleNeedLove - 29.12.2006, 00:48

Stig??

Matt
MarryMeAgnetha - 29.12.2006, 00:51

Yup, Stig.

Now please come up with one better than mine.

--Daniel
PeopleNeedLove - 29.12.2006, 01:04

Will try, Daniel. I like this game, too.........

"In order to have a good time, avoid listening to King Kong Song."

Matt
MarryMeAgnetha - 29.12.2006, 04:29

OK, easy one, so I'll let someone else take it. Remember, you have to state who said it, AND the source of the quote.

(Is tbat a rule or did I just make that up? )

--Daniel

MarryMeAgnetha - 01.01.2007, 14:49

Gary,

Happy New Year to you, too!

As a general rule I won't speak for others, but I will this one time with apologies to Matt.

You got it right. Björn spoke this admonition to some ABBA fan club members in a recorded greeting (along with Benny) in honor of the club's anniversary. Then Benny and Björn sang "Happy Birthday" accompanied on the piano by Benny.

Check your mail.

--Daniel
spong - 01.01.2007, 15:31

helo

i've checked it and some dopey twit forgot to empty it.

thjis is a quote about the album what has my fave song on it:

"The things we produced for ourselves-were not our primary comcern.
it was the sessions we produced for other acts that simply had to be done"

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 02.01.2007, 01:34

Gary,

After all this time it seems I should know what your favorite ABBA song is. But I don't.

I'll guess the quote is from Benny. I'll guess the album must be one of their early ones, so I'll guess ABBA.

--Daniel
spong - 02.01.2007, 22:44

hello

no , Daniel. you do not really see the posts where i state my fave song.
now it has a certain Ring to it.and the person is wrong tooo so that means one left?

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 02.01.2007, 23:56

Gary,

Focusing with laser-like precision on the clues you revealed in your last post (inadvertently, no doubt ), I'm going to guess that the source of your quote was Björn, and that the album in question is Ring Ring.

How DO I do it?

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 04.01.2007, 04:20

Gary,

I expected that one to be guessed correctly, but not so soon! I thought the songwriting angle would be a red herring that would have someone guessing one of the boys before guessing Agnetha. Although I probably should have known better given that one of the players loves :love4: Agnetha :love4: almost as much as I do.

OK, OK, back to the game: I'll guess your quote is from Björn.

OK, this one is a real ABBA insider's question, but it's not impossible.

Gary,

Sorry, I didn't want to hog up the whole game.

Nope, it wasn't her!

She did something else in response to the question, by the way! (I mean Agnetha)
imstillalive - 10.01.2007, 18:06

I think it was Frida during a Polish interview. They were asked their attitude to love, Agnetha* hugged Bjorn and said "this". Frida responded with "I like making love".

Hope I'm right. Next question if I am

"There is a danger of changing too much in the search for perfection."

Hope it isn't too obsure

Could it be bass guitarist, Adam Clayton, born in England but raised in Ireland, the "jazz-man" and "poshest" member of the band, who co-created a list of ten names among which was the chosen name for the group, U2? Could it be him? don't I sound smart? (thanks, Wikipedia, for teaching me more than I could have ever had interest in regarding U2. Now I'd better clean up the d**n kitchen.)

Gary -- it was Björn. ABBA The Book page 168. (I'm sure there are other sources for ABBA quotes. This is just a really handy one.)

good lord! you knew Larry Grayson?

gary :D
Lammer - 15.01.2007, 03:02

HI!

This is a line Agnetha spoke when the four of them were on a tv show (Wogan? I've forgotten the name, but I've seen it on YouTube). I guess the host had some catch-phrases, and each of the four ABBA spoke one of them.

Do I need to be more specific? It's okay if you say this isn't enough to "win" the chance to make the next clue. I'll be fine. *sniff*
It's just that, well, I got the last one wrong, too, and, well...
spong - 15.01.2007, 03:11

aww , Laura: don't cry.

i am sure Daniel will let you have it just 'cos you are so lovely  even if it is not what he has in mind.

gary :D
Lammer - 15.01.2007, 03:56

I hadn't understood the Larry Grayson reference. We'll just let Daniel choose. Afterall, you live all the way out there in England, and I live in the same state as him. But we'll just let him choose. (pick me, pick me!)
MarryMeAgnetha - 15.01.2007, 08:16

You two are so polite. Well, I'm sure you both realize I'm not taking any sides. The object of the game is to name the speaker or writer of the quote, and Lammer was first to correctly identify the speaker as Agnetha, so she wins.

I'm sure Gary knew the answer, and was much more familiar with this British celebrity and his show than either of us, Laura, but he didn't actually type "Agnetha".

And I'm also sure Gary is quite right about how lovely Laura is as well.

--Daniel
Lammer - 15.01.2007, 08:39

The next quote is yours. Carry on.

Here it is:

"For the 1977 tour Bjorn and Benny wanted marble statues on stage, carrying thousands of red roses. We couldn't carry marble statues around the world, so we used plastic ones filled with sand, and silk roses."

MarryMeAgnetha - 27.01.2007, 21:20

Ivana,

That one sounds really familiar. Was it Benny?

--Daniel

Hi Daniel! No, it wasn't Benny..
MarryMeAgnetha - 28.01.2007, 03:39

OK, someone else guess now!

All right, I'll guess Björn, but I'm beginning to suspect the answer is not an ABBA member.

--Daniel

No, not an Abba member nor one of their team.

I'll wait until you confirm before I post a new quote.

hello

you call that easy? blimey! i'd hate to be on the end of one of your harder ones.

yes , Daniel. correctamundo. next?

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 30.01.2007, 02:07

Gary,

I sort of misspoke. Quotes really aren't easy or hard. For the most part you either recognize a quote or you don't. So I don't know if this next quote is easy or hard, but in any case:

"They were easy and always very nice to work with , they were professionals. Before a photo session there was always a discussion between me and the group."

PS: Here's a bonus quote -- "Daniel is one of the greatest musicians I've ever heard. After I marry him, I'm going to convince Benny and Björn to write some new songs with him. Then I'll convince Frida to join us and reform ABBA for a new album and tour!"
Fire&Ice - 30.01.2007, 11:24

Quote No. ! - Bubi Heilemann?

Quote No. 2 - Agnetha  (now I'd advise you to run for cover Daniel, before Johnny and The Guys start running after you! )
Lammer - 30.01.2007, 18:37

Would it be cruel to quote from the song Disillusion at this time?

Actually, Ivana, don't you think it's the other way around: the first quotation was Agnetha and the second one was Bubi Heilemann?

My guess is Anders Hanser. Only kidding about the Disillusion thing. And the switched quotation thing. Really. Please invite me to the wedding, and I'd like a back-stage pass to the tour. Yeah, you probably won't even tell me when you come to my town.

:)
MarryMeAgnetha - 31.01.2007, 01:39

Ivana,

Quote #1: Bubi was a good guess since he's a famous photographer who took lots of pictures of ABBA, but no.

Quote #2: Yes! How did you know?!

Laura,

Anders Hanser was also a good guess, but you also get a "no".

And what on EARTH makes you think I would neglect to tell you when I'm coming to your town?

--Daniel

Fire&Ice - 31.01.2007, 10:05

It was Ola Lager! :D

As for quote no. 2 - take a look at your nickname!

NEXT: "I don't think anyone can speculate in the way the media say we do. It wouldn't work, bacause it would be a false feeling."
MarryMeAgnetha - 31.01.2007, 10:39

Hey, did you go back and edit your post? I started answering the last couple of guesses, including yours, but all of a sudden I noticed you had the answer whereas you didn't have it before. You are correct, at any rate.

And I still admire the cleverness you've shown in guessing the bonus quote. Amazing.

Hmm. I don't know your quote. It's a rather odd one, isn't it? But I'll guess Agnetha.

--Daniel
Fire&Ice - 31.01.2007, 10:57

Thanks Daniel!

Guilty as charged! I was going through the Book to find another information so I ran into Ola's by accident!

MarryMeAgnetha - 31.01.2007, 11:08

Wow, Ivana, do we have the whole game to ourselves now? OK, next I'll guess Björn.

--Daniel

Fire&Ice - 31.01.2007, 21:41

:wine: Yes, that was Mr. Anderson! (one "s")

Next please!
MarryMeAgnetha - 01.02.2007, 01:47

Yikes, I wasn't prepared to be right! Hey, that's a statement that could be interpreted as reflective of my life in general. After all, when one lives one's life, the general tendency is to live it according to the story in which one believes, meaning of course the assumptions which one takes to heart, the truths by which one lives on such a basic level so as to be for the most part unaware that they're opinions being held, but rather simple manifestations of reality, no more subject to question than the actions of the atmosphere and gravity surrounding one...

Um, OK, I'll be back in a minute with a new ABBA-related quote.

--Daniel
MarryMeAgnetha - 01.02.2007, 01:52

OK, easy one because I'm in a hurry:

"The opening of the Polar Studios changed a lot in our work. It was made to our specifications...So, it was very easy to record there. We had the best equipment in town, at that time. It's still a great studio!"

Although I don't know what "the chippy" is.

About the quote: was it from Björn?

--Daniel
spong - 03.02.2007, 11:12

hello

yes , Daniel , it was!

i've told this before but i think it was when you where away:
a "chippy" is a common English coloquialism for the good ole fashioned fish and chip shop.

and away you go with the next on , mate.

gary :D
Lammer - 03.02.2007, 19:47

Daniel, are you a Trekkie? ("Live Long and Prosper")
And, remember Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips, the one and only US Chain of Chippy Restaurants I've ever heard of (from the '70's/80's). Gary, you explained it to me sometime ago, around Elaine's birthday (and, yes, subtle as a sledgehammer  ).

Daniel, was it Agnetha? I know, you didn't put a quotation yet, but I have to be playing the game, and I figure she's a good guess.

:)
MarryMeAgnetha - 03.02.2007, 23:00

I'm a bit of a Star Trek fan. I don't think I qualify as a full-fledged Trekkie, but I enjoyed the various TV series and movies quite a bit. The Star Trek reference has to do with Gary's nickname. I don't know if he's ever explained that before on this board. He explained it once on the old ABBAsite chat board. (Gary -- sorry if I'm exposing you!)

Anyway: No! My new quote will not be from Agnetha. It's...something different. Yeah, different. That's the ticket. It's...damn, let me come up with one.

Not from Agnetha.

That is Stig Anderson from an interview in 1972.

Gary, I'll ask, then: what does "spong" mean? I'm not much of a Trekkie, so you'll have to explain, but please not in excrutiatingly painful detail. :?

Daniel, I'm correct, aren't I?

Who/What dubbed ABBA as "Absolute Pop?" (and they didn't mean soda)

But I don't know who dubbed ABBA "Absolute Pop."

i'll give you a clue: do you have "ABBA , the complete guide to their music" by Carl Magnus Palm?

gary :D
Lammer - 06.02.2007, 19:42

Ooh, I have that book. The quotation is from Bjorn, regarding his consideration to sing lead vocals on The Winner Takes It All, but just to clarify, it goes "It's a good thing I didn't."

Next: I hate the thought that ABBA will disband someday (1977)

:?:
MarryMeAgnetha - 07.02.2007, 02:05

Alas, Gary, I do not have "ABBA , the complete guide to their music" by Carl Magnus Palm. (Fellow fans, take note of my birthday, included in my profile.)

Ahem. Anyway, I'm going to guess Laura's quote is from Frida.

--Daniel
Lammer - 07.02.2007, 02:58

No worries. "Good thing" or "good job" -- just the American and British versions of the same expression, which made no difference to the meaning of the quote.

Your new quote sounds like something Benny or Björn would say. I'll guess Björn.

Maxi,

This is a good, challenging quote. Meaning I don't recognize it. I think there's a good chance one of the ABBA members themselves said it, but the real trick would be to identify what the individual in question was talking about.

As long as I'm here, I'll just guess it was Frida.

Try again my Friend

But I will throw in a clue.

Agnetha

Maxi-saxi
MarryMeAgnetha - 17.02.2007, 04:00

OK, Agnetha said it. But what was she talking about? Judging from some of ABBA's TV appearances, I'll guess she was talking about the majority of the girls' choreography.

--Daniel
Maxi-saxi - 17.02.2007, 04:24

No I'm sorry Not even close.

Maxi-saxi
MarryMeAgnetha - 17.02.2007, 04:29

Heh heh

--Daniel
restareabear - 17.02.2007, 08:00

Oh, I think that was Agnetha when they sang"I Am a A" on...um, what show was it?
Fire&Ice - 17.02.2007, 10:42

It was in Dick Cavett's show, when they sang the Swedish version of "Don't Fence Me In". Dick had just handed the sheets out and there, they were made to sing it just like that, without any rehearsals. You could see how the girls were quick to pick up the tones, unlike B&B!

And Agnetha actually said: "We have NOT rehearsed it!"

(BTW, this is my favourite Agnetha interview ever!)
MarryMeAgnetha - 17.02.2007, 11:12

Ivana,

I knew that sounded familiar. Thanks for coming up with the goods.

I'll bet that you're one of the few for whom this is a favorite interview. The fan consensus seems to be that this was not one of ABBA's better TV appearances, mostly because there was not a great rapport between Cavett and ABBA and because the split-ups were affecting group morale.

Oh well, to each his own. For whatever it's worth: I finally saw it and I found it enjoyable even if it was a little stilted in places. It's great that the musical performance at the end was really and truly live. I suppose I need to get The Complete Studio Recordings box set to have my own DVD copy. Add it to the list (along with the Frida box set and Agnetha's Christmas CD with Linda).

i am sorry to have to report , Daniel that unless you are into sugar-sweet , the Xmas with Linda was not really that good.

so , Ivana. waiting and i assume you are all better?
(off to tell Maxi to play this)

gary :D
Maxi-saxi - 17.02.2007, 23:13

Well done Fire & Ice, Got it in one,

Well done, I watched it the other night, I have the DVD with all 9 yes 9 songs, baseiscally the same quality as the Complete Studio Sessions.

Lammer - 24.02.2007, 10:31

Okay, here's a new one:

"ABBA: The Movie; I got a lot of grief for working on that."

:)
MarryMeAgnetha - 24.02.2007, 10:38

Laura,

Lasse Hallström

--Daniel
Lammer - 24.02.2007, 10:47

I bet it took me longer to find that quotation than it took you to answer it.

... and the baton passes to you...
MarryMeAgnetha - 24.02.2007, 11:25

OK, here's one:

"I guess I was rather proud that they wanted it on the album, but I remember being a little doubtful that it was good enough."

Yes, I'm going with an easy one.

--Daniel
spong - 24.02.2007, 18:11

hello

was it Frida about Fernando?

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 00:04

Gary,

No, but a very logical guess.

I'm glad you guessed that because I thought I had put up a very easy quote, but maybe people will have to think about this one a little after all.

--Daniel
Lammer - 25.02.2007, 00:08

Was it Agnetha about Disillusion?
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 00:34

Champagne, Laura!

You're next.

--Daniel
Lammer - 25.02.2007, 00:46

Why don't I just give you the answer now and save us all the trouble?

Okay, here we go:

"...all the flourishes, like big double octaves on the piano. We stole them like crazy."

Is this difficult? :?
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 00:51

Since I don't know, I think it's difficult. I'll guess Phil Collins.

--Daniel
Lammer - 25.02.2007, 00:57

Nope. Someone who played a different instrument (although I know you mean PC as producer, not drummer).
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 01:03

Laura,

You're right about my reference to Phil in his capacity as a producer.

Hmm. Frustration mounts. Your quote rings a bell, but I just can't seem to remember who said it. The guy from Supertramp?

--Daniel
Lammer - 25.02.2007, 01:08

No, what did the guy from Supertramp say? Oh, wait- don't tell-- use it next time! I'll pretend I don't know.

This is an American who said it.
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 01:11

Laura,

I just guessed "the guy from Supertramp." I don't even know which guy. I was just taking a stab in the dark.

Aw, I don't even have another lame guess. I'm stumped.

--Daniel
Lammer - 25.02.2007, 01:14

He is only one of two famous American singers with this name.
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 01:17

OK, someone else guess now!

--Daniel
Lammer - 25.02.2007, 01:20

Gary, Gary, he's yelling at me! Where are you?

E.C. Piano. Big glasses. Married a 13-year-old cousin, or something like that.
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 01:30

Since you've been so accommodating, now I'll guess Elvis Costello.

--Daniel
Lammer - 25.02.2007, 01:31

I'm not talking to you.
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 01:37

Aw, c'mon. Pleeeeeease?

--Daniel
Lammer - 25.02.2007, 01:43

(sniffle) Yes, it's Elvis Costello.
Your turn (sniffle)
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 01:51

Laura, you're a pal. You KNOW I would never do anything to hurt your feelings. Unless you got between me and Agnetha. Then all bets are off.

But that's never going to happen, so we're cool. Here's a new quote.

"We have discussed the high tax pressures quite a lot. It has now made us consider leaving Sweden for good."

--din bästa vän, Daniel
Lammer - 25.02.2007, 02:10

I'll contain myself.

Was it (oh, you know I'm going to say this, don't you?)
The Guy from Supertramp?

What does that mean at the bottom of your post?
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 02:18
din bästa vän
Laura,

Din bästa vän is Swedish for "your best friend." :)

--Daniel
Lammer - 25.02.2007, 02:33

Groveling. Nice touch.
:)
spong - 25.02.2007, 02:44

hello

blimey all riley! you two have been busy!
stop arguing.
if i grovel will you be nice to me too?
so was it the Supertramp person?

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 02:51

Laura,

--Daniel

PS: Gary, it was Elvis Costello. I know it was hard to discern amongst all the drama.
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 02:53

By the way, ABBAphiles, for those of you who've lost track we're still working on

"We have discussed the high tax pressures quite a lot. It has now made us consider leaving Sweden for good."

--Daniel
Lammer - 25.02.2007, 03:15

Daniel, what are you implying? That I'm dramatic? Is that any way to talk to your best friend? (Let's go shopping!)

Okay, I think it is Bjorn, but maybe that is too obvious. I'll guess Bjorn anyway, but only if it isn't really him. If it is really him, I'll guess Frida. You see, I don't want to come up with another quotation, seeing as how well my last one went over. Hey, Gary, it went over like a "Led Zeppelin."

So that's my guess, Bjorn, unless it is Bjorn, then my guess is Frida. Got that? I'm serious. Don't let that smile fool you. I'm not smiling.

:)
MarryMeAgnetha - 25.02.2007, 07:09

Laura,

Sorry, it's neither Björn nor Frida. Since you were kind enough to give a hint on your last quote, I'll give a hint for this one: it's not a member of ABBA, but it is someone well-known to ABBA fans.

--Daniel

PS: By the way, why do you think anything was wrong with your last quote? It was challenging, but the quotes should be challenging sometimes.

PPS: (In reference to something you wrote on another thread) my favorite song is Dancing Queen, not Drama Queen. Uh oh, am I in trouble again?
Lammer - 26.02.2007, 00:43

Big trouble, mister. Nah, yesterday was a lot of fun.

How about Stig Ander-one-s-o-n?

:)
spong - 26.02.2007, 01:23

hello

bum! i think it is Stig. so i'll guess Michael B. Tretow.
Laura wrote: Hey, Gary, it went over like a "Led Zeppelin." ;)

aww. you mentioned LZ. i'm made up.
please smile , for Daniel and i? please don't hurt me?

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 26.02.2007, 01:44

Laura and Gary were both right. It was Stig. Laura got her answer in first, so I guess she gets the next quote. (Gary is such a gentleman, I'm sure he won't mind.)

--Daniel
Lammer - 26.02.2007, 03:32

"When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical."
MarryMeAgnetha - 26.02.2007, 09:03

All right Funny Girl, no Supertramp! (How did we get on Supertramp anyway? It must be Laura's fault.)

--Daniel
Lammer - 26.02.2007, 09:52

Oh, I couldn't resist!

MarryMeAgnetha wrote: Hmm. Frustration mounts. Your quote rings a bell, but I just can't seem to remember who said it. The guy from Supertramp?

Okay, here is a real one:

Referring to HEY HEY HELEN (ABBA 1975):
- This would fit on "ABBA WOOD" - the worst of ABBA, thus, unlike "ABBA GOLD".

:?:
MarryMeAgnetha - 26.02.2007, 10:01

Gosh all golly, I know I've heard this one. Was it Björn?

--Daniel

PS: To tell the truth, I thought the Supertramp thing was funny.
Lammer - 26.02.2007, 10:06

Me, too. Predictable, but funny.

Nope, not Bjorn. I'd never heard this one and got a kick out of it.

:)
MarryMeAgnetha - 26.02.2007, 10:24

I'm trying to think where I read that, because I know I've come across it before. Possibly on this site. Did Johnny say it? Or some other fan?

--Daniel
Lammer - 26.02.2007, 10:37

No, I think that would be too unfair to expect you to be able to quote the site members! (Oh, but that would be a fun game: Which Member Said This or Which Member Is This (and describe the person, next player guesses who and posts a new clue))

This is one of the ABBA themselves. I read this interview at another site.

:)
MarryMeAgnetha - 26.02.2007, 10:44

All right, then: Benny.

(You're still up!)

--Daniel
Lammer - 26.02.2007, 10:46

Yay, it's Benny! See, staying up late paid off!

Yep, but only until 1.

:)
MarryMeAgnetha - 26.02.2007, 11:03

It's so late! I have to go to bed!

I'll throw it open: anyone who wants may post a new quote.

If no one does by tomorrow, I'll try to come up with one then.

--Daniel

hello

looks like it may be up to you then , Daniel.

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 27.02.2007, 09:01

"I'm just impossible on stage. I'm insecure and scared, and then I freeze up."

-- _______________

--Daniel
Lammer - 27.02.2007, 09:07

I'll guess Frida, because she seems like the last person to say such a thing!
spong - 27.02.2007, 12:42

hello

right: as Laura put that i'll go for the other one

Agnetha

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 01.03.2007, 03:02

Hey! I didn't get a notification on these replies! Johnny! I want my money back!

Er, OK, must have been a glitch. In any case, Laura was right. This is something Frida said early in her performing career, before her ABBA days. I think it's safe to say that she dealt with the problem successfully.

You're up, Laura!

--Daniel
Lammer - 01.03.2007, 05:08

:?

This person referred to a certain song on a certain album as the one s/he enjoyed recording the most (on that album), because it "felt very 'true' to do."

Who said this, and do you know which song?

:)
MarryMeAgnetha - 01.03.2007, 08:58

I just don't know. Since I'm here, I'll guess it was Frida speaking about the song When All is Said and Done.

--Daniel
Lammer - 01.03.2007, 09:40

Oh, Daniel, I'm sorry, no. However, you have gotten one out of three correct: wrong person, wrong song, correct album. See Pat on your way out for some parting gifts for you. (I have left the name ambiguous; it just depends on how much consolation you need).

:)
spong - 01.03.2007, 11:25

hello

i could have sworn it would be Frida about Head Over Heels but as you said it was the wrong person..........

so i'll go for Agnetha about One Of Us

gary :D
Lammer - 01.03.2007, 18:49

Sloooooowly they come closer to the correct answer.
Agnetha-yes
The Visitors-yes
The song- :?:

BUT as this is called "Who Said That" and not "Name the Song," Gary gets the ribbon! Daniel, go see Pat.

Gary: BATTER UP!!

ps. Slipping Through My Fingers (from my one and only ABBA book, Palm's The Complete Guide to their Music)

:)
spong - 02.03.2007, 11:54

hello

i've got that book. good int it?

gary :D
Lammer - 02.03.2007, 19:10

Hi!

Bjorn, same great book, page 65!

Next: "... tried to sound a little sexy when... recorded the vocals -- I'm not sure that ... succeeded."

I'm trying to make it more challenging by leaving out the names and pronouns.

:)
Fire&Ice - 03.03.2007, 00:00

I think it was Agnetha again. If I am wrong, I can't be too far away from the right answer!
MarryMeAgnetha - 03.03.2007, 02:04

I think that was Frida referring to Honey Honey.

--Daniel
Lammer - 03.03.2007, 04:36

And confetti descends upon Daniel like a snowstorm!!!! Hooray, you are correct!

Your turn, Daniel.

:)
MarryMeAgnetha - 03.03.2007, 11:06

Thank you, Laura.

"[Agnetha's jumpsuit] was the costume that gave her the tag 'the sexiest bottom in pop', while Frida's skirt, which was actually much more risqué, went virtually unnoticed."

Well, it wasn't unnoticed by me, but in any case: who said that?

--Daniel

--Daniel
Lammer - 06.03.2007, 03:17

AAAAHHH! Sorry! I forgot it was my turn, and it has been a very busy weekend.

Okay: "A lot of (ABBA's) songs are a bit odd like that, a bit tongue-in-cheek."

MarryMeAgnetha - 08.03.2007, 02:13

Gary, your turn!

hello

no comment. we are just good friends.

"To me the pop charts haven't been the same since ABBA's demise.
it was the first time i'd heard gorgeous harmonies and angelic choruses
that made you feel really elated.
i loved the fact that they went on to make disco , like "Voulez Vous".
they fully understood it".

gary :D
Fire&Ice - 08.03.2007, 17:24

It seems that they understood any musical direction!
B&B were able to make any perfect song - from rock and jazzy style (some of you may not agree with me on rock..) to perfect pop, through heart-rendering ballads.

All in all, I have absolutely NO idea who said that, but I definitely like what I've read.
spong - 09.03.2007, 00:09

hello Fire&Ice wrote: (some of you may not agree with me on rock..). i do.
look at Eagle "live".
i have played that to mates and they do not beleive me when i tell them it is not a rock group.
they have even more non-belief when i tell them it is ABBA.
so i get the cover out and they just say "oh , come on!. you substituted it".

then i get the videos out.
you would not beleive how many people think i have put another bands music over ABBA's video.
(and before you ask , you have to remember we are sober)
sad?............you bet your booty they are!

gary :D
MarryMeAgnetha - 09.03.2007, 01:41

I think ABBA could have really rocked more if they'd wanted to even though Benny (for one) felt that rock wasn't ABBA's forte. But the live Eagle and a couple of other live versions showed they could rock.

As for the quote, I have no idea. I'll guess Thomas Johanssen.

--Daniel

you have got the name right. Andy Bell.

MarryMeAgnetha - 11.03.2007, 10:10

Ivana,

Hmm. Let's see... It's probably not a former member of ABBA. This sounds like something that would be said by someone from outside the group.

Well, I don't know who it is. Have I ever mentioned that you're extremely beautiful?

Thanks Daniel! Had a lot of work in the last few days but I'll be away till Thursday next week as well! :( So in case I am right with the forthcoming guess, feel free anybody to post instead of me.

Hey Gary see you later!

Could it be Frida? Demanding more and more of yourself part sounds like her.

Next quotation, because Mr. Hill in high school English class never let us get away with using the word quote unless it was used as a verb.

PS: Good quote, though! I mean, "good QUOTATION".
Lammer - 22.03.2007, 21:47

Hi Gill!

Good job! (And Ivana, too; are you both Madonna fans?)

You are 100% correct! (Sorry I left you out before; I had gone back to see who had been playing most recently.)

This is the full quotation:

“I had to send my emissary to Stockholm with a letter and the record begging them and imploring them and telling them how much I worship their music, telling them it was an homage to them, which is all true.
And they had to think about it, Benny and Bjorn. They didn’t say yes straight away. They never let anyone sample their music. They could have said no. Thank God they didn’t.”

Good job, Gill and Ivana! Daniel, thanks for playing; I'm not a Madonna fan, either, but I like some of her songs, and I like her gutsiness, and she's standing the test of time. One of our local radio stations plays soooooo muuuuuuch Madonna, but have they ever played Hung Up? NOOOOOOOO.

hello

starting me off on sport is not a good idea.
i love sport , me , so i would love to talk about sport.
trouble is i do not think it would be appropriate because i would drone on on the site for ages and we are not here to disscuss sport.

i have been onto sport forums and they are boring.
all a lot of them seem to do is poke fun at other peoples teams and argue and "have a go" at eachother.

shall we stick to ABBA? yay!....so: - Gill?

Why don't you post ABBA and Sports topic? We could post quotes, events and of course pictures related to sports. Anything sporty and ABBA 8)

someone else come up with the next one please?
MarryMeAgnetha - 31.03.2007, 02:57

OK, agnethanut, since I gave you such an easy one before, I'm going to come up with one that's perhaps a little more obscure this time.

"ABBA was one of the first big, international bands to actually deal with sort of middle-aged problems in their songwriting. And it [seemed to be] what was going on among them -- that song 'Knowing Me, Knowing You.' "

--Daniel
Anonymous - 31.03.2007, 18:04

i know it but i can't remember his name
MarryMeAgnetha - 01.04.2007, 01:24

Even though there's been only one guess I'll give a hint. This is a relatively obscure one, after all.

The speaker is a famous rock musician, a great songwriter in his own right, and not usually associated with ABBA.

--Daniel
Lammer - 01.04.2007, 02:44

Is it the guy from Su--- oh, that's been done. Nevermind. It's that other guy, then.

Okay, is he a solo artist are part of a group?
MarryMeAgnetha - 01.04.2007, 09:51

Hmm, I guess I'll give more hints. If you don't know the quote, the piddly little hints I'm giving out won't narrow it down much, so I may as well give some
