And The Odd One Out Is...
Hi

this is a game that was on the old abba site but it isnt on this one (i think). SO I'M GONNA HAVE IT FOR MY SELF AND TAKE ALL THE GLORY AND...AND...AND...

I'm sorry  please forgive me. i didn't mean to get carried away. lol

Pretty obvious really. i give four things to do with abba and someone else has to guess which is the odd one out. for instance

Anni-Frid Lyngstad
Benny Andersson
Anders Hanser
Bjorn Ulveaus

but the key to this is that you may (but you dont have to) put in a trap to catch people out. see the obvious answer here would be Anders is the odd one out because he isn't a band member. However, in actual fact, Benny is the odd one out because the others where born in 1945 and he was born in 1946.

so you have to say who is the odd one out and why

and if your person is right but the reason is wrong then you lose and it is still open for answers. although you can of course guess again

and so after an unnecessarily long start  here are the opening four

Conociéndome, Conociéndote
Dame, Dame, Dame
Andante, Andante (Spanish version)
Fernando

good luck people

Bromers
kitty-cat - 20.11.2006, 00:22

ooh is it fernando cos it wasnt recorded in spanish? if this is right then you might have to wait for a clue from me, so i can work oe out :D

Anonymous - 20.11.2006, 00:46

Brommers the answer is they were all recorded in spanish.

Yours ABBADEMOSUK
kitty-cat - 20.11.2006, 00:49

Jonathan i thinkyhe point is that one is an odd one out, but i know now that i am wrong cos Fernando was recorded in spanish cos i have it  this is a good game and i'm sure someone will know.

John
Anonymous - 21.11.2006, 22:28

The winner takes all is the odd one out as waterloo take a chance on me dancing queen were recorded in the 70's as the winner takes all was recorded in the 80's

Yours ABBADEMOSUK
bromers - 21.11.2006, 22:47

Hi

is it the winner takes it all because the other three are both girls as main vocals but the winner takes it all is just agnetha?

Bromers

Bromers
Nantes - 25.11.2006, 19:34

Suzy-Hang-Around is the only one not to appear on a single.
bromers - 25.11.2006, 23:35

lol

time for a clue?

ask for one and you can have one lol

Bromers
MammaMia512 - 26.11.2006, 00:30

Ah Bromers, so you brought my old topic back! Many thanks, I missed it, but never went around to posting it on here (for anyone who's wondering, it used to be called: 'One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others'

Here's my guess:

Since you said it's Suzy-Hang-Around, could it be that because it's the only song that mentions someone's name?
bromers - 26.11.2006, 19:05

Hi

no still no-one has managed to get it.

lol

Bromers
Nantes - 26.11.2006, 19:30

I don't honestly think this is right

John
spong - 26.11.2006, 20:45

bromers
spong - 03.12.2006, 00:16

hello

working titles?
what is it with flamin' working titles??

Bromers did not ask about working titles.
i was "sort" of right , Bromers , mate , so i'll give it a go.

Waterloo (2.42)
Waterloo (2.45)
Waterloo (2.44)
Waterloo (2.42)

now , i think this first clue is very hard.prove me wrong?
and not a working title in sight.

gary :D
Nantes - 04.12.2006, 20:39

Waterloo 2.45 because its the only odd number seconds wise and its the only one in English. Last bit a guess.

John
spong - 05.12.2006, 03:16

hello

good guess , John , but no.
next clue. 30th ?

gary :D
spong - 17.12.2006, 12:37

hello

i just realised i was being pikky.

the odd timed one is correct but it was not the reason.
look on the "30th" edition and you'll see the reason i want.

gary :D
Nantes - 21.12.2006, 21:39

All the others are bonus tracks where as the 2.45 Waterloo is actually on the LP/CD by right.

John
spong - 23.12.2006, 11:42

Take A Chance On Me
Mamma Mia.

idh123 - 23.12.2006, 15:18

Agnetha as she was born in the 50's and Bjorn, Benny and Frida were born in the 40's

Fernando is the right answer.

John

spong - 22.02.2007, 00:25

hello

actually mine was really ambiguous.
my odd one out was Put on your white sombrero , because the other two have red (ish) in the title.
but seeing as it is your first go and you did a really good guess , i'll give it to you!

gary :D
edwinwilde - 23.02.2007, 00:35

The odd one out:

ABBA album.
Super Trouper album.
The Visitors album.
Nantes - 23.02.2007, 00:51

Abba album,
The other two have title tracks on them.

What the heck, you can continue. :D
Nantes - 23.02.2007, 02:51

What was your answer then edwinwilde

Next clue.

Voulez-Vous
Super Trouper
Arrival
The Album.

John
spong - 23.02.2007, 11:30

hello

i'll hazard the obvious guess.
Super Trouper because it was done in the 80's

or ABBA-The Album because it's Swedish release date was a different year to it's UK date.

and Edwinwilde. what was yours?

gary :D
Nantes - 23.02.2007, 20:03

No Gary both wrong.
restareabear - 25.02.2007, 05:27

John, this may be so WAY out in left field it's ridiculous, but is it Super Trouper because there are 4 syllables in the title, and the other 3 albums only have 3 syllables in their titles?
Nantes - 25.02.2007, 23:39

No thats not it either.

Read the titles!
edwinwilde - 26.02.2007, 00:19

The Album, because it's the only studio album from that list that doesn't have 10 tracks.

My answer was The Album but because it was the only album from the ones I put that wasn't released in the month of November. That was the reason. :D
Nantes - 26.02.2007, 07:59

Its not Super Trouper or The Album.
John
spong - 26.02.2007, 11:52

hello

one word.

Mamma Mia
SOS
I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do
So Long

Toni
Nantes - 14.04.2007, 00:32

So Long its the only song that didn't chart in the UK.
Well except for the 1973 release of Ring Ring.
Toni - 14.04.2007, 00:37

Hello John, you´re right, but that is not exactly the answer I want to hear.

Please try it again!

Yes, Gary, you´re right with "So Long". But I want to hear another reason. The answer is very simple.

well I was thinking Dancing Queen because that was the only hit out of the four
Nantes - 15.04.2007, 02:49

Toni got my thinking cap on and Gary So Long was an A side in The United Kingdom but it failed to chart the B- side was I've Been waiting For You.

Mamma Mia. It doesn't have an O in it.

Laura......... ,ok I accept your answer! :D :applause:

What I meant is that "So Long" is from 1974, while the other three songs are from 1975! 8)

gary :D
Nantes - 15.04.2007, 19:18

No Gary, its not Mamma Mia
Lammer - 15.04.2007, 19:24

John, how about Eagle? The other three songs have the word "kiss" in them or it is implied there was kissing involved (Mamma Mia is about a relationship). No smooching in Eagle. Oh, you mean you wanted a well-thought-out reason? You won't get one from me.

Toni, I think you are cute as a fuzzy fellow. I actually think this smiley looks like you:

Put it up in your next post so you can see it next to your picture.

Ok Guys not going to be around for the next two days, so I've told Gill the answer and she'll keep an eye out for me.

No pressure on you Gill and don't let them bully you into giving the answer away

Ok John not a problem, :D

Lammer - 16.04.2007, 01:16

Hiiiiiiii, Gill!
Okay, just between us gals, let's talk girl-stuff. Do you like Oprah? Do you get your nails done? Do you like chocolate? Has Aunt Flo still been by for a visit? (Have to scare the boys away.)

Well, it isn't Eagle or Mamma Mia, so how about When I Kissed the Teacher. Eagle has one word, MM has two words, KOF has three words, but WIKTT does not fit the pattern, as it has five words. Once again, I repeat, if you want a valid, musical reason, you won't get one from me.

We'll miss you John!

:)
kitty-cat - 16.04.2007, 11:29

Hi laura, noooooo i do not like oprah, and i do indeed need to get my nails done, but i'm afraid i dont have an aunt flo (at least i dont think i do  ) chocoloate? oh ys i do but am ona diet right now, :D

kisses of fire is right!! But why?

Gill xx
spong - 17.04.2007, 21:53

hello

if it not either of the last two reasons i have given i don't know why i'm playing...Kisses of Fire closes the "official" album.

i have said the other three start albums and i have said KOF does not and now i have said KOF actually finneshes the album (when it first came out.
now i am saying KOF was not on a video or Gold or More Gold or indeed the sound and vision version of the Definitive collestion

if this is not enough i give up.

gary :D
Nantes - 17.04.2007, 22:46

Hi! Gary
I'm back tonight, the answer was Kisses of Fire is the only one to finish an album of, the other three start an album.

gary :D
Lammer - 18.04.2007, 06:33

The exact reason...
Not only is Gill a girl, but John, Jack, and Gary are blokes. Is that exact? Gill is more of a Frida-fan, while John and Gary (and Jack too?) are Agnetha-fans (of course, you are all fans of both, bla bla bla usual disclaimer so as not to cause a fight on site).

:?:

Regarding your KOF, Gary, we really have to get Elaine on site and ask her!
spong - 18.04.2007, 13:40

hello

i'll give a tiny clue-ette.
us 3 "blokes" as Benny says (a lot...) are not this , i am hansome(i hope!..not sure about the other two!)
Gill is not hansome but is?....... (and it's a big butt..hawhaw..running away to hide again)

I Have a Dream, because it has outside-singers, a children's choir.
That is probably too obvious to be correct, but this way the others can strain their brains.

:)

Gary, nice wig; now who's blond?
Toni - 19.04.2007, 18:17

No, Laura, it´s not "I Have A Dream". But I agree with you, Gary´s new hairstyle is great!

Hello everybody!

My computer was ruined, but now I´m back again!

Agnethanut, you´re right, it´s "Honey Honey", but the reason is another one. It has something to do with Miss Anni-Frid Lynstad!

Toni
Anonymous - 02.05.2007, 18:17

her hair was permed (i really don't know i'm guessing)
Toni - 02.05.2007, 19:39

No, Agnethanut, it has nothing to do with Frida´s hair, but it has something to do with her music.

Toni :D

okay then i don't get it at all

quite a few people come and post once then forget where we are.snif.

Lammer - 16.05.2007, 05:25

Wow, it's like you read my mind. Yes, Fernando it is, because King Kong, Cassandra, and Hamlet were already famous characters before ABBA songs. Fernando is a character ABBA created.

Go, Gary!

You owe me one.

I Saw It In the Mirror, because it doesn't have the word "you" in it? Or is it something more complicated than that?
Toni - 16.05.2007, 18:51

"Crying Over You" because it wasn´t completely released?

Toni :D
bromers - 16.05.2007, 23:17

OH!!! Blimey! Corr! Crikey! Buggar! I messed up. When I did this, I thought I saw that they were recorded in Feb with the exception of Eagle, but oh dear, only two of them were. Sorry. I guess Gary gets it, since he was closest to what I thought was correct, unless Jessica wants to beat him to it.

I'm sorry guys.

Laura messed up?..well that's a first....

gary :D
Lammer - 22.05.2007, 22:59

Okay, the meaning of "chuck your dummy" sunk somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean between you and me. What are you saying? Is that what the guy with the bat is doing to the other guy? Chucking a dummy?

i'll have the other three though...hehe

gary :D
Lammer - 23.05.2007, 06:31

Oh, I got it now, the "chuck your dummy." Yeah, we use "chuck" that way, too (to throw something out), but we don't have that expression for throwing a tantrum. I often say "pitch a fit."

And, yes, you are right!

1. "No more champagne"
2. Any number of ABBA love songs
3. Like an angel passing through my room

"Two For The Price Of One" because the person in this song is the only one who is not alone anymore?

Toni 8)
spong - 25.05.2007, 10:36

hello

sorry Toni , Laura's right.

gary :D
Lammer - 25.05.2007, 17:56

Toni wrote: "Two For The Price Of One" because the person in this song is the only one who is not alone anymore?

Toni 8)
... but who wishes he were!

OK, next:

1. I Wonder
2. Happy New Year
3. Here Comes Rubie Jamie (*ahem* Gary)
4. Super Trouper

:)
spong - 25.05.2007, 22:08

hello

yes , yes , i've done that other game

Here comes Rubie Jamie 'cos it wasn't on an album originally?
or it was a working title/

gary :D
Lammer - 25.05.2007, 22:21

Well, that wasn't what I had in mind....
Shall we wait and see if anyone else gives it a try?

:)
spong - 26.05.2007, 00:59

hello

we could (whistling of the wind as the tumbleweed goes past)
unless Toni comes to our rescue?
personally , i don't mind that much if i have you all to me self...bwahaha.

gary :D
Lammer - 26.05.2007, 18:59

(crickets chirping)

Oh, corr! blimey! Dummy-chuck! I made a mistake again. No wonder no one else wants to play with me.

1. I Wonder
2. Happy Hawaii (this is the one I meant to put)
3. Here Comes Rubie Jamie
4. Super Trouper

Want to guess again, Gary?
Nantes - 26.05.2007, 21:21

 Laura you're getting as bad as me, I went though a period when ever time I touched the keyboard it all went wrong!
Lammer - 27.05.2007, 00:17

:D
Toni - 27.05.2007, 00:18

I would have choosed "Happy New Year", because it´s the only one with no Frida-solopart, but then you changed it in "Happy Hawaii". Frida has also no solopart on it, but that can´t be the solution, because then you wouldn´t have changed it out.

Is it "I Wonder" because it´s the only ballad?

Toni :)
Lammer - 27.05.2007, 00:22

Ooh, Toni replied before I had edited my remark to John.

Well, right song, but wrong reason, Toni. It has to do with Words in the songs. Certain kinds of Words found in three songs, but not in the fourth.
Want to try one more time?

:)
Toni - 27.05.2007, 00:27

In "I Wonder" there is no land or city in the lyrics?

Toni :D
Lammer - 27.05.2007, 01:49

Toni - 27.05.2007, 11:58

The next one:

Gold
Greatest Hits
Greatest Hits Vol. 2
The Singles The First 10 Years

Toni 8)
Nantes - 27.05.2007, 12:23

The Singles The First Ten Years, it was the only double album
Toni - 27.05.2007, 12:27

........not exactly what I wanted to hear, John.

Toni :D
Lammer - 28.05.2007, 07:38

Gold, because it doesn't have a photo of the four of them on the cover?

:)
Toni - 28.05.2007, 11:56

"Gold" is right, Laura, but I want another reason.

Toni :rotate:
spong - 28.05.2007, 21:15

hello

Gold because it was originally released on cd and not vinyl?

gary :D
Toni - 29.05.2007, 18:02

No, Gary, it has something to do with time and a foursome.....

Toni
Lammer - 31.05.2007, 18:46

Gold, because it was released in 1992, long after the group, - broke up- I mean, stopped recording?
Toni - 31.05.2007, 19:17

Yes, Laura!

The compilations came out in ABBA´s active time, except "Gold".

Toni :D
Lammer - 01.06.2007, 07:13

Hi,

1. Angeleyes
2. Knowing Me, Knowing You
3. Money, Money, Money
4. Andante, Andante

:)
Nantes - 01.06.2007, 18:44

Andante Andante because it wasn't a single

John
Lammer - 01.06.2007, 21:18

Andante, Andante, but that's not why. Think back over all those Survivor games...

:)
spong - 03.06.2007, 10:26

hello

i never really played the survivor series.
i could not bring myself to vote against songs.
call this a bit petty if you like but it was not as petty as cancelling post count for the games , i think.
so I need as clue , Laura even if others don't

gary
Lammer - 04.06.2007, 10:02

We played a Survivor game with our favorite songs that used the famouos ABBA "A-ha!"

:)
spong - 05.06.2007, 00:07

hello

so Andante Andante won?

so?

gary :D (just about to get a right kicking from Laura).
Toni - 05.06.2007, 22:49

"Andante Andante" because it´s no "a-ha" in it?

Toni 8)
Lammer - 06.06.2007, 00:45

Toni, right song, right reason!
You're next!

:)
Toni - 06.06.2007, 19:37

accordion
bass
guitar
piano

Toni
agnethanut - 06.06.2007, 19:54

accordion

because it was rarely used in ABBA tracks
Toni - 06.06.2007, 20:10

No, it´s not the accordion. Another try?

Toni
Lammer - 06.06.2007, 21:20

How's it going, Toni?

Bass, because neither Benny nor Bjorn played it??
:?:
Toni - 06.06.2007, 23:46

Yes, Laura! Benny played guitar on tv and on stage (for example in "Fernando"), he played accordion (for example in "The Way Old Friends Do") and of course he was the :benny: .

He never played bass in the abba era.

You´re next, Laura. :D

Toni
Lammer - 07.06.2007, 07:14

Hi!

1. Voulez-Vous
2. The Album
3. The Visitors
4. Ring Ring

:)
spong - 07.06.2007, 11:02

hello

The Visitors?...released in the 80's.
(i'm hoping it is RING RING)

gary :D
Lammer - 07.06.2007, 17:44

It's not The Visitors in this case, Gary.
:)
spong - 07.06.2007, 23:18

hello

it isnt't?..ooh , you cheat?..(can i have me sofa back?..this wall is a bit uncomfortable).

ok , is it RING RING? ....(hope hope)....because i love it

gary :D
Lammer - 08.06.2007, 18:00

It is Ring Ring, but for a reason that wouldn't make you happy.
One more try?

:?:
Nantes - 08.06.2007, 19:32

Ring Ring is the only album not to make number one in The UK haha!
Lammer - 09.06.2007, 02:23

Close enough (Stop gloating, John!). I had noticed (at ABBAsite) that the other three were top-10 in several countries, but Ring Ring in only a few.

Ooh, I came up with a good one in the car this afternoon! I'll save it for next time!

Your turn, John!

:)
Nantes - 09.06.2007, 10:02

Ok what about this one then

Bruce
John
Nathan
Gary
Lammer - 09.06.2007, 17:32

Well, Bruce because he's West of the Atlantic Ocean?
Nathan, because he is from a non-English speaking country?
Gary, because he isn't sober.
John, because he is just the nicest darn guy here ( :D )

Look at me taking lots of guesses. What nerve.

:)
Nantes - 09.06.2007, 18:13

haha

Well Laura you could have one of the four but the last one, well I may have to disagree but its kind of you to say.

By the way one of them is right but the wrong answer!!
Have another go.
Lammer - 09.06.2007, 19:01

Thanks for narrowing it down, John.
8)

Hmmm... we've got two mods, two UK'ers, two bearded ones, two two-syllable names, four men over forty

No

:)
Nantes - 09.06.2007, 19:18

Laura one of these answers is right.

But its three not two.
Lammer - 09.06.2007, 22:08

It's three??? Did you shave your beard? Did you become a Mod? Did you move out of the UK? Did you turn 50?
Nantes - 09.06.2007, 23:21

Ok Laura, another clue look at our pictures.
Lammer - 10.06.2007, 06:23

Oh, hey, Nathan has a beard! I don't think he had one in the Roo pics Gary posted...
Nathan, you look like someone I know, without the beard. Any relatives here in California?

Gary, JOHN CALLED YOU ODD!!! You'd better grow a beard, quick!

How's that?

:)
Nantes - 10.06.2007, 11:10

Yes Laura your right.

In the Pictures of Roo he didn't have a beard.

Next one Laura!
spong - 10.06.2007, 12:30

hello

beleive me , Laura:..if any of those 3 call me odd compared to them that means i am normal.
beardie-weirdie.
(actually that is prob the nicest thing John has ever called me).

gary :D
Lammer - 10.06.2007, 22:14

The albums:

1. Ring Ring
2. Waterloo
3. Voulez-Vous
4. The Visitors

(BTW, there is more than one correct answer for this one.)
:)
spong - 11.06.2007, 00:52

hello

it's RING RING...because if i keep this up i must be right one day.....................................................sigh

gary :D
Lammer - 11.06.2007, 06:52

:)
Nantes - 11.06.2007, 10:38

Waterloo its the only one to end in a Vowel!
agnethanut - 11.06.2007, 16:50

visitors because it's the only 80's album
Lammer - 11.06.2007, 18:09

John and Jessica,

Could be, but no. There are two answers I have in mind, and both have to do with the titles of the albums...

:?: :?:
agnethanut - 11.06.2007, 18:59

waterloo because it is only one word
Nantes - 11.06.2007, 18:59

Could be Voulez-Vous
the only non English title to an Album
Lammer - 12.06.2007, 01:12

Ooooh, those are all good answers.

Another hint, before you all get mad at me and surround the couch I've been hiding under:

It has to do with the song on the album having the same title as the album. There are two different solutions. I'll tell you later if you don't get it. The fun sort of wears off after awhile, huh?
agnethanut - 12.06.2007, 17:59

waterloo because it is the only song ABBA sang in Frech
Lammer - 12.06.2007, 18:03

Nope, but it is something how many ways this one can be answered!

One answer is The Visitors because... (has to do with the vocals)
Another answer is Voulez-Vous because... (has to do with placement on album)

:?
agnethanut - 12.06.2007, 18:06

whatever next please
spong - 12.06.2007, 21:57

hello

got one of them.
all the other 3 start the album
Voulez-Vous is the second song on the b-side.

and is the other one because The Visitors chorus only starts near the end of the song?

gary :D
spong - 12.06.2007, 21:59

hello

got one of them.
all the other 3 start the album
Voulez-Vous is the second song on the b-side.

and is the other one because The Visitors chorus only starts near the end of the song?..
if you call it a chorus , of course...many wouldn't

gary :D
Lammer - 13.06.2007, 01:52

Yes, Gary on the first one: Ring Ring, Waterloo, and The Visitors are the titles of the album and start the album. Voulez-Vous does not start the album of the same name. The second solution is The Visitors, because A/F sing joint lead vocals on Ring Ring, Waterloo, and Voulez-Vous, and Frida sings lead on The Visitors.

Sorry it was more difficult than I anticipated!

:)
spong - 13.06.2007, 12:33

hello

we do not need lots of easy games , Laura....
we (well , me) need some of them to be a bit harder.
i have learnt quite a lot on the Historical and Ten degrees games (plug).

anyway

RING RING
Two for the price of one
Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie (a man after midnight)
Givin’ A Little Bit More

now..i think this is hard.

gary :D
Lammer - 13.06.2007, 18:44

Well, it could be Givin' A Little Bit More, because it wasn't on a studio album (CD).

:?:
spong - 13.06.2007, 21:43

hello

it is diff to give a clue without giving the game away so it is a connection to my fave song but it is not my fave song

gary :D
Toni - 14.06.2007, 19:25

"Gimme Gimme Gimme" because it´s the only one which has nothing to do with a telephone or a call?

Toni :D
spong - 16.06.2007, 01:32

hello

yup...well done Toni and off you go!

gary :D
Toni - 16.06.2007, 07:10

Cheers, Gary! Here is the next one:

album "Ring Ring"
album "Super Trouper"
album "The Visitors"
album "Voulez-Vous"

Toni :D
Lammer - 16.06.2007, 07:25

Good job on that last one, Toni!

Well, I could say "Voulez-Vous," because that album does not open with the title song as do the others, BUT that's like what I just did, and I know you are more creative than that!

How about Ring Ring, because it is out of sequence with the other three?

:)
Toni - 16.06.2007, 07:58

No, Laura, it´s not "Ring Ring", but you have been on the right way, and then you left the right way.......

Toni
spong - 16.06.2007, 18:43

hello

so it's Voulez Vous?
is it because er...i was just about to put hyphenated but that's not right.
so what is it Toni? (worth a try)

gary :D
Toni - 16.06.2007, 22:44

Hello Gary and everybody,

the album "Voulez-Vous" is right, but please gimme another reason!

Toni :D
Lammer - 17.06.2007, 05:53

Toni wrote: but please gimme another reason!

I'm taking that as a clue. Gimme. It is the only album (VV) with a ! in a song. It could be Super Trouper, because the other albums have misspelled words and words (in parentheses). So that's my guess: the exclamation point! (If I'm right, please someone else post the next clue).

:)
Toni - 17.06.2007, 09:11

Nope...

It´s another much easier reason, Laura.

Toni :wink1:
spong - 17.06.2007, 12:15

hello

oh , yes...i get your subtlety
is it because the cover's blue and the other 3 are brown?

gary :D
Toni - 17.06.2007, 12:30

spong - 17.06.2007, 12:52

hello

i knew it all along!
i'll post this quickly and apologise 'cos i'm off
Father's day you see..i'll try to get on later.

Greatest hits vol I
Greatest hits vol II
Gold
More Gold

gary :D
anni_frid1945 - 18.06.2007, 10:31

Ok well I'm going to guess Greatest Hits Volume I because it's the only one with and actual picture of ABBA whereas Volume II has a cartoon and Gold and More Gold don't even have a picture of ANYONE...not even a cartoon or something.

BROOKE
spong - 19.06.2007, 10:49

hello

a cllue:..look at the number of songs on them.
right that's given the game away...

gary :D
Lammer - 20.06.2007, 02:30

But that's 14, 14, 19, 20, according to ABBAsite.

:?:
Toni - 20.06.2007, 19:51

Gold, because 19 is an odd number? (don´t know if my english is right)

Toni :wink1:
spong - 23.06.2007, 10:15

hello

yes , Laura that is the number i have on my albums.
so Toni , take it away!

gary :D
Toni - 23.06.2007, 12:30

Here is the next one:

As Good As New
Hasta manana
The Way Old Friends Do
Why Did It Have To Be Me

Toni :wink1:
Lammer - 23.06.2007, 20:59

Why Did It Have To Be Me, because it is the only one of the four in which a man sings?

:)
Nantes - 23.06.2007, 21:33

I'd go for The Way Old Friends Do as its a live version the others have been recorded in the studio.

John
Toni - 24.06.2007, 08:00

Nope & nope, but John you are a bit on the right way.....

Toni :wink1:
Nantes - 24.06.2007, 12:18

Is it Hasta Manana as it was the only recored in Spanish
Toni - 24.06.2007, 12:26

Yes, it is "Hasta manana" but because of another reason.

Toni
spong - 24.06.2007, 22:05

HAsta Manana 'cos it's title is not English?..blimey , that sounds bad.
Toni - 25.06.2007, 19:10

Not exactly, Gary. Here is a hint:

Toni
Nantes - 26.06.2007, 10:35

They never sang it live?
Toni - 26.06.2007, 18:11

They sung "Hasta manana" live, but not.............

Toni
Nantes - 26.06.2007, 18:19

They never sang it in concert. I knew they'd sung it live it was a wild stab in the dark!

John
Toni - 26.06.2007, 18:49

They sung it live in concert in 1975, John, but they didn´t perform it in their ....... in .... :idea1:

Toni
spong - 28.06.2007, 00:37

hello

concerts in 1977?

gary
Toni - 28.06.2007, 18:12

:wall:

Nope!

Not 1977, Gary!

Toni :dead:
spong - 28.06.2007, 22:22

hello

ooh , ooh!..i know!
the year of3745...(i'v been watching Dr..Who)

gary :D
Toni - 28.06.2007, 23:30

:sob1: Laura, John, anybody where are you! Help!

Gary is trashing me all the times......

Toni :sob:
Nantes - 29.06.2007, 02:15

Gary leave Toni alone or I'll report you to Gill! and the naughty chair for you my lad!!!!

Toni it has to be they didn't sing it in 1979 on their world tour.
Toni - 29.06.2007, 12:04

Thank you John, for saving me from that bad bad boy.

Gary, can we watch Dr. Who together, when you are in Kempten to see the race horses again?

Toni :wink1:
Nantes - 30.06.2007, 00:16

Ok next one is

Agnetha
Benny
Bjorn or
Anni-Frid
Lammer - 01.07.2007, 01:39

Toni, I am sorry I wasn't there to defend you against Gary. My super-hero trans-Atlantic, trans-continental hearing device was at the repair shop.

John! It can be several things!
How about: Benny, as he is the only one from the Stockholm area? (and of course, Stockholm is the most recognized city in Sweden and where the ABBA museum will be.)

:)
Nantes - 01.07.2007, 11:23

Yes Laura it could be a number of things but I want the right answer.
So its not Benny, but good guess. Three to go!

JOhn
spong - 02.07.2007, 00:39

hello

is it Agnetha because i love her and worship her and i'd "lay down my life" for her?
(actually , i would do that for Frida as well , but i have to start an answer somewhere)

gary :D
spong - 02.07.2007, 00:44

hello

it is also noticable that there are quite a lot of double posts.
i do not think this has anything to do with the poster making a mistake,
more the system having a "foible" in it.
look:..i am not complainging.

Good i'm glad your not complaining  dont you dare blame this site for your mistakes  our site is faultless  and we have no foibles (whatever they are  )

I have deleted your double post.

Gill xx
Nantes - 02.07.2007, 12:29

Gave me a good answer Gary and I'll tell you if its Agnetha.
spong - 03.07.2007, 00:11

hello

i already did but if you need an official answer:

officially "is it Agnetha because i love her and worship her and i'd "lay down my life" for her?
(actually , i would do that for Frida as well , but i have to start an answer somewhere)"

or she was the youngest?

gary :D
Lammer - 03.07.2007, 06:29

John, are you looking for a serious, well-thought out answer, or something silly? (I have lots of those.)

Anni-Frid, because she is not a native Swede? because she has a hyphen in her name? because she has a second name she uses ("Frida")? because her hairstyle/color changed the most while the others' changed less dramatically? because she can sing opera?

:?:
Nantes - 03.07.2007, 15:46

Gary you are on the right track with your last post. It is Agnetha and Laura its not a serious one. But a fact!
Lammer - 04.07.2007, 07:57

Agnetha, because she was born in the 1950's rather than the 1940's as were the other three?

:)
Nantes - 04.07.2007, 09:59

Yes Laura thats the right answer over to you

John
Lammer - 05.07.2007, 21:45

:blob1:

Okay, here we go:

1. If it Wasn't For the Nights
2. Summer Night City
3. Lovelight
4. The King Has Lost His Crown

:?:
spong - 06.07.2007, 00:53

hello

Lovelight because i am in the mood for Love...
i am not in the mood for a king or a night or a king or crown

gary :D
Lammer - 06.07.2007, 02:51

I hope you are in the mood to be wrong, because that's what you are.

Your mood is subjective; the answer to this is objective. No more clues yet...

:)
Nantes - 06.07.2007, 12:14

If It Wasn't For The Nights because its over five minutes long and the others aren't

John
Lammer - 06.07.2007, 18:22

:band: :boogie:  :band:

Your turn, John! The other three are all in the 3+ minutes range.

:)
Nantes - 13.07.2007, 21:55

Super Trouper
Waterloo
Our Last Summer
Eagle
Lammer - 14.07.2007, 07:06

Hi John!

Eagle, because

1. Super Trouper-- Glasgow
2. Waterloo-- a place, even though it is not the setting of the song
3. Our Last Summer -- Paris

Eagle doesn't have a setting or a reference to a specific place.

Worth a try, anyway
Toni - 14.07.2007, 07:53

"Our Last Summer" because it was not a first track on a studio album?

Toni :)
Nantes - 14.07.2007, 10:35

Hey Laura all trys are worth it because you are right.
Back to you Laura.
Lammer - 14.07.2007, 17:46

 Really? Or do you just want your turn to be over

I just had the turn before John's. Toni, do you want to go next?

:)
Nantes - 14.07.2007, 22:09

Yes Laura it was the right answer but as we've both had a go, good idea to let someone else have a go.

Over to you Toni!

John
Lammer - 15.07.2007, 03:23

Scary how we think alike, isn't it, John?

To-NI, To-NI, To-NI!

:)
Toni - 15.07.2007, 09:30

 ............ ...... :o

Oh, hello! I was sleeping, it was night in Germany

Here is the next one:

Another Town Another Train
Ring Ring
Sitting In The Palmtree
Waterloo

Toni :D
Lammer - 15.07.2007, 09:34

I'm going to say Ring Ring before Gary does...

If you compare the CD version to the vinyl version (according to ABBAsite), Ring Ring is the only one not in the same place on both versions.

Hello Laura,

it´s an interesting answer, but I had something else in mind. Try it again!

The others were recorded in 1973, whereas ATAT was recorded in 1972 (although possibly 1973, according to ABBAsite).

I think the answer is almost in the question in that all but Sitting In The Palmtree were also recorded in German. Also I've certainly seen singles of the other three.

Cheers

Toni - 16.07.2007, 18:45

Hello Laura & Charlie,

once again a good answer, Laura, but Charlie you are right, "Another Town, Another Train" ("Wer im Wartesaal der Liebe steht"), "Ring Ring" and "Waterloo" were recorded in German.

As far as I know, "Sitting In The Palmtree" was not recorded in German.

You are next, Charlie!

Toni :D

Odd one out
Ok here goes (hint remember I am based in the UK).

Honey Honey
Ring Ring
S O S
Waterloo

(Kindly note that I'm out tomorrow evening UK time).

it is RING RING 'cos if it isn't i'll beat you up at playtime.
and ooh! where you going tomorrow night?

Charlie - 17.07.2007, 01:01
Sorry - that leaves one chance in three
I'm going for a meal with a girl friend. We meet up occasionally, actualy quite often.

Charlie
MarryMeAgnetha - 17.07.2007, 01:55

Charlie,

I'll guess SOS. The other three songs are sung by Agnetha and Frida together, but Agnetha sings solo lead on SOS.

I hope you have a nice dinner. Although if you don't give your Honey Honey a Ring Ring, she might send out an SOS, whereupon you will have met your Waterloo.

(Oh, there was just no need for that... :puke:)

--Daniel
Charlie - 17.07.2007, 10:06
S O S ?
One idea I had was singles that were also released as solo tracks (e.g. SOS and Fernando). But sadly that wasn't the reason here.

Thanks for your wishes for the meal.

Goodnight everybody, sweet dreams

Charlie
Toni - 17.07.2007, 18:26

Is it "Honey Honey" because there was no ABBA single release in the UK of this great song?

Toni :wink1:
Lammer - 17.07.2007, 18:34

Oh, stop it with the serious answers!
It's Waterloo, because Ring is repeated, Honey is repeated, and S is repeated. Yes, Waterloo has two o's, but that's the way the word is spelled; can't help that.

But if Charlie does give his Honey Honey a Ring Ring, oh-- nevermind... it has to do with Andante, Andante though.

:)
Nantes - 17.07.2007, 18:51

Toni, I think you may have it because Honey Honey was released in the UK but not by Abba. It was released bt Sweet Dreams. Good clue there Charlie.

John
Charlie - 17.07.2007, 20:16
Well done !
Yes you're absolutely correct that Honey Honey actually charted in the UK by Sweet Dreams.

However there was also something in common why I picked the other ones. That is they were also used as titles for other hits (OK I admit #61 isn't a great hit) by Stonewall Jackson, ABC and Dollar.

So over to you Toni....

ps - sadly Honey Honey isn't feeling too well so the meal got postponed - which is a shame since the weather's lovely here at the moment.
Toni - 18.07.2007, 18:31

Cheers Charlie, I hope Honey is feeling better now!

Here is the next one:

Toni :)
Nantes - 18.07.2007, 18:39

Me And I, as it wasn't a b-side
Toni - 18.07.2007, 18:40

Nope, it isn´t "Me And I", but as you are right, too, John you can do the next.

It was "Merry-Go-Round", because it has more than 6 letters.

Goodbye
Toni
Nantes - 19.07.2007, 10:52

Hey Toni Goodbye that sounds as if your feeling us for good, don't do that we need you.

The Winner Takes It All
Voulez-Vous
Dancing Queen
When I Kissed The Teacher

John
MarryMeAgnetha - 19.07.2007, 23:24

I'll guess Voulez-vous because that's the only song in the list that's also the title of an album.

--Daniel
Nantes - 20.07.2007, 00:01

That is true Daniel but not the one I was looking for.

John
MarryMeAgnetha - 20.07.2007, 00:12

Even though it was true, I want someone to guess the reason you had in mind. (I thought my guess was too easy.)

--Daniel
Lammer - 20.07.2007, 01:23

The Winner Takes It All, because it is a solo, not a shared vocal.

:?: :?:
Nantes - 20.07.2007, 14:24

true again Laura but not what I'm thinging.
Try looking at the albums they come from
MarryMeAgnetha - 21.07.2007, 01:55

OK, good hint John.

When I Kissed the Teacher is the odd one out because it's the first song on Arrival. All the other songs are second on their respective albums.

I'm pretty sure about that, but I'll wait until you confirm. Besides, I need the time to think up one of my own.

--Daniel
Nantes - 21.07.2007, 18:07

Yep Daniel that's right,
Hope that's given you enough time to think one Up
MarryMeAgnetha - 21.07.2007, 19:58

ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions
Bright Lights Dark Shadows
ABBA The Book
ABBA - The Complete Guide To Their Music

Which is the odd one out? (Don't fall for the red herring!)

--Daniel
Lammer - 21.07.2007, 22:57

I am guessing by "red herring," you mean Bright Lights, Dark Shadows, since it doesn't begin with "ABBA." Therefore, I will guess that one to spare my fellow ABBA fans from getting the answer wrong.

8)
Toni - 22.07.2007, 00:18

Hello Daniel!

Is it ABBA the book, because it´s not written by Carl Magnus Palm?

Toni :)
MarryMeAgnetha - 22.07.2007, 05:45

Laura, you did indeed discern the red herring -- one that was so obvious I doubt it fooled even the greenest novice for a second.

Toni: well done! Please proceed with the next Odd One Out.

Givin´ A Little Bit More
Suzy-Hang-Around

Nantes - 22.07.2007, 11:17

I'm going to guess Does Your Mother Know as it was the only single but that seems a little to easy.

Am I right Toni?
Toni - 22.07.2007, 12:36

You are right, John, but I had something else in my mind. It´s not "Does Your Mother Know".

Try it again! :D

Toni
Nantes - 22.07.2007, 13:34

Givin'A Little Bit More

was never on an orginal album?

John
Toni - 22.07.2007, 17:17

It´s the right song, but not the right reason. Hint: lyrics

Toni
MarryMeAgnetha - 23.07.2007, 02:50

John took my guess, and I can't believe it wasn't right! But I'll guess that this is the only song among these male-lead-vocal-ABBA songs in which all the vocals, lead and back up, are done by Björn.

--Daniel
Toni - 23.07.2007, 18:33

Nope, Daniel. It has something to do with a lady.

Toni wrote: Here is the next one:

Toni :D

I quoted Toni so that we wouldn't have to back to the last page to see the choices.

Toni said it is Givin' A Little Bit More, maybe because it is a woman he wants, rather than a)one who is too young, b)one he doesn't want around, or c)one who comes with her mother
OOOOH! Givin' A Little Bit More is the only song that doesn't make a reference to the girl's mother!

:?:
MarryMeAgnetha - 23.07.2007, 23:15

Whoa, I think Laura nailed it!

--Daniel
Toni - 24.07.2007, 18:06

Yes, Laura, you are right with the mother!

You´re next! :D

Toni
Lammer - 24.07.2007, 20:45

I only figured it out because of the clues you provided and everyone else's guesses. Good one, Toni.

Not sure if this is obvious or not:

I Am Just a Girl
I Am the City
I Have a Dream
I Saw it in the Mirror

:)
agnethanut - 24.07.2007, 20:49

i have a dream because it is the only a-side

Laura,

Just a guess: I Am The City is the only song on your list not released on one of the original ABBA albums.

Lammer - 24.07.2007, 21:17

MarryMeAgnetha wrote:

I knew that would throw someone off!
Right song, wrong reason. I'll wait a little longer before putting a hint...

:)
Nantes - 26.07.2007, 17:23

OK Laura time for a hint!
Lammer - 26.07.2007, 18:42

Sing each song aloud...
:)
MarryMeAgnetha - 27.07.2007, 03:45

The lyrics of each of these songs begins with its title -- except for I Am The City.

At first I was going to guess it's the only one among them that's not performed at a slow tempo (which is true), but I think the lyric thing is what you were going for.

--Daniel
MarryMeAgnetha - 27.07.2007, 04:04

Here's a new one in case I was right. If not, ignore this one until I win legitimately!

Money Money Money
Gimme Gimme Gimme
On and On and On
The Way Old Friends Do

--Daniel
Lammer - 27.07.2007, 04:25

You are correct, sir!

And I'll go with the obvious choice: The Way Old Friends Do, because it doesn't have the repetition in the title.

:)
MarryMeAgnetha - 27.07.2007, 04:33

Ah, Laura, even as you guessed you knew that wasn't it, right?

Since this is evidently the custom, I'll let you know that you chose the right answer but for the wrong reason. Try again, now that the red herring is out of the way.

--Daniel
Lammer - 27.07.2007, 08:16

Money, Gimme, and On all refer to wealth and celebrity, whereas The Way Old Friends Do does not.

:?: :?:

I don't think the "custom," as you said, is a must-do; you don't have to give hints. I for one like them because I am a bit impatient! :?
Nantes - 27.07.2007, 09:51

I like Laura's answer and probably think she is right but going to go with another reason incase

On the orginal Albums The Way Old Friends Do is the only live track.

John
MarryMeAgnetha - 27.07.2007, 10:07

John,

As far as I know, you're right. My idea was that both studio versions and live versions of the other three I listed were released, but there is no original studio recording of The Way Old Friends Do, only a live version. (The version that appears on Super Trouper has obviously been doctored up in the studio, but its basic track is the live performance. Compare it to the more "honest" version heard on the DVD ABBA In Concert.)

Well done! You're up.

--Daniel

PS to Laura: Very astute and observant. I almost said you were right because your answer was so much more sophisticated than what I had in mind, but that just wouldn't have been honest.

In this game I try to come up with examples that are not too obvious but still have a definitive answer. I see now that I didn't succeed quite as thoroughly as I intended, because your answer holds up quite nicely.
Lammer - 27.07.2007, 18:43

Shucks, Daniel  , there is often more than one right answer to these puzzles. I don't know enough "facts" about the songs without researching on ABBAsite, which takes time, so I usually try to find a reason off the top of my head having to do with the lyrics or album of origin.
Nantes - 27.07.2007, 19:18

Well I am surprised, I honestly thought you had it Laura.

Hello John!

Is it "Does Your Mother Know" because it has 4 words?

Toni :D
Nantes - 27.07.2007, 19:23

Hi! Toni,

Good guess but wrong I'm afraid
MarryMeAgnetha - 27.07.2007, 21:14

I think the odd one out is Does Your Mother Know for one of two possible reasons.

DYMK is the only male lead vocal on your list. Additionally, it's the only one on the list which was released in two different versions.

--Daniel
Toni - 27.07.2007, 22:36

Good reasons for DYMK, Daniel, but I think it´s "Gimme Gimme Gimme" because it wasn´t on an original studio album.

Toni :)

All good guesses and all true but not what I'm looking for.
I'll put a clue before I hit the sack.

--Daniel

Toni - 28.07.2007, 12:45

I also think it´s "One Of Us", but for another reason: It´s the only one in which Björn wears a beard.
