Adam Beach
Adam is invited to come to the festival in Germany. His wife told me that they are looking forward to coming to Germany. I think it would be great to have him here - he´s one of these NA actors whos movies are already dubbed into German ... so he´s one of those who might be recognized "hey, havn´t I seen this guy´s face in a movie already?"

Please don't think me ignorant, but I would like to know why they have Native American festivals in Germany? I just think it's odd- not that I think it's wrong or anything. I did read that when the English army first came to the Americas, they exported about 1000 NA's as slaves to Europe. Could this have anything to do with it? Maybe like a heritage festival or something? :?:

No, Native American movies and actors are not famous at all in Germany. Gunter Lange, the art director of the Germany festival, is good friends with Michael Smith, the founder of the American Indian Film Fest. There are a few people in Germany who are really interested in Native American culture and you can´t even buy those movies in Germany. So Gunter Lange and Michael Smith had the idea of kind of German version of the American festival ... it´s for the support of Native American movies and the intercultural dialogue! People can come and talk to the actors and artists and so we can learn about each other. I made the experience that German people still do see the Native Americans as savage people and most of them have no idea how they live today. So this is a chance to show to the Germans that there are lots of talented people among the Native Americans and that they are just human beings like you and me - so I think it´s a great idea. For Gunter Lange it´s also his business! ... yes, sure - it´s part of mine, too, but I don´t get paid for it! My work for the actors is free of charge ...

An author who wrote the Winnetou-books. Stories about an "Apache" (dressed like a prarie-native and acting like ... well... not native) hero.

Sounds very interesting!! Wish I could be there. :( Oh well, maybe we will get something close to Ohio that I can go see. My state is very rich in Indian history, but very poor in promoting modern achievements. I think most people around here think NA's still live in teepees and wear buckskin. Or think they are still savage and heathen, but with better clothing. LOL- What a funny world we live in. Not funny haha, but funny as in how people seem to be so ignorant to anything outside their realm.
Idril - 21.11.2006, 17:06
the people in your state aren't the only one thinking that way about NAs.

This is true - I mean I'm in Kentucky (howdy neighbor) and when we moved up to Bethesda MD when I was younger - people up there actually thought we all ran around barefoot and lived in shacks....
I had to do the lesson sunday morning and it was on the First Thanksgiving and I was so proud of the kids.....they chimed right in and helped me with it. They knew all about Native Americans (is what they called them) and how they helped the white man in the beginning. It was a good day and a good lesson...but I sure wish the world would wake up and not be so ignorant.
Idril - 21.11.2006, 18:40
But I fear the world will never wake up. ot before the last day comes.

It's a sad thought that the last days will come before the world wakes up - but it is true.
Idril - 22.11.2006, 17:33
yeah. And it will become even worse, because most people are too lazy to change anything.

yes it's going to get worse all over the world - the storms will become more violent - even though it's been mild this year thankfully. I think people will wake up only when the end has come.
