Which B-sides were as good as the A-side of single?
I'm in love with all vinyl-singles of Abba!

And I wonder what B-sides were as good as the A-side?

I think these:
1. Lovelight
2. Elaine
3. Cassandra

As Good As New
As Good As New should have been an A Side in the UK after I Have A Dream, it was an A Side in Mexico and I believe it did really well, perhaps number one there!?

As Good As New is a really good song and is in my opinion As Good As An A-side! :agree:

I don't think that any of the B-side singles in The UK were as good as the A-side of the same single. Except Kisses of Fire that is a much better song then Does Your Mother Know.

Re: Which B-sides were as good as the A-side of single?

drimnagh - 13.11.2006, 18:41

Kisses Of Fire was WAY better than Does Your Mother Know.

hello

i do not agree . i think DYMK was the correct one for the A side

in the late 70's and early 80's we suddenly had a load of "double a sides" from all groups.
what a cop-out. but maybe this could have been a real one?

gary :D

Should I Laugh Or Cry, brilliant.

i would have to say "dance (while the music still goes on)" instead of honey honey. but this might just be a canadian release.. i looked on abbasite.com and it wasn't there. but i do have the record, with honey honey as the A side and dance while the music still goes on, on the B side.

and my other record i have it has "when all is said and done", A side and "should i laugh or cry" on the B side. that isn't on the abbasite either. maybe we did them differently in canada.

I think they always chose the best A-sides. For example, I prefer "Does your mother know" to "Kisses of fire", although "Kisses of fire" would have been a great single as well.

Other songs which could have been good A-sides:

Elaine
Lovelight
Happy Hawaii

drimnagh - 14.11.2006, 16:16

I guess it's because I'm simply not that keen on Bjorn as a vocalist  -that's why I prefer Kisses of Fire to DYMK. I found this to be too cheesy  whereas Kisses of Fire was A and F singing their hearts out and I just found it a much more pleasurable aural experience-esp Agnetha's 'Emotioooooons.....!!' :love4: Still, each to their own, hey?

I think Visitors was the B-side to Head over heels. Well, I think HOH is a nice song, but, in my opinion, Visitors is much better.

The Visitors and Head Over Heels was a double 'a' side in England.

I have to agree with this one. 'Dance' WAS the b-side of Honey Honey in the United States as well. 'DANCE' is a much better song in my opinion, too :)

I love "Kisses Of Fire" very, very much. I think this song also would have been a great A-side.

Re: Which B-sides were as good as the A-side of single?

Maxi-saxi - 24.11.2006, 01:33

Cassandra
As Good As New
Kisses Of Fire
I've Been Waiting For You

These should all have been A sides

I believes some record companys did not quite get it right, not many but a few In New Zealand When All Is Said & Done was an A side did not get much promotion though.

If they had have pushed it I reckon another number 1
Maxi-saxi  :excited:

Kisses of Fire
The Visitors ( ok normaly one of the double A-sides)

Re: Which B-sides were as good as the A-side of single?

Toni - 02.01.2007, 20:12

The following b-sides were better than the a-sides:

I´ve Been Waiting For You - better than So Long

I Wonder better than The Name Of The Game

Thank You For The Music better than Eagle

Medley better than Summer Night City

Kisses Of Fire better Than Does Your Mother Know

Angeleyes better than Voulez-Vous

On And On And On better than Lay All Your Love On Me

Cassandra better than The Day Before You Came

This is only my opinion, so please stay cool!

Toni :)

...and I like "Lovelight" more than "Chiquitita".

Re: Which B-sides were as good as the A-side of single?

abbangelears - 03.01.2007, 22:51

Wow, Toni, you have turned Abba's world upside down. Is there any A-side that you prefer to its B-side? I'm not being critical, I respect your opinion, it's just that it surprises me, especially in the case of Chiquitita/Lovelight.

Re: Which B-sides were as good as the A-side of single?

Joe - 03.01.2007, 23:17

Well, Toni, as Ángel I can just say WOW!!! I'm almost speechless!

I agree with you for On And On And On and these I think are of equal quality:
I´ve Been Waiting For You / So Long
Kisses Of Fire / Does Your Mother Know

But the rest???

Quote: please stay cool!
For the rest this is really VERY difficult, but I try to:
  :x  :o :? :) 8)
Somehow it had worked for now, but I don't know how long it will last. :P

Toni - 05.01.2007, 19:36

Hi Ángel & Joe,

of course I like all the a-sides of that singles, too. But I think their b-sides sound even better.

There are also many A-sides which are better than the flipsides:

People Need Love, Ring Ring, Waterloo, Honey Honey,

I Do, I Do..., SOS, Mamma Mia, Fernando,

Dancing Queen, Money Money Money, Knowing Me Knowing You,

Take A Chance On Me, Gimme Gimme Gimme, I Have A Dream, The Winner...

One Of Us, Head Over Heels and Under Attack.

On one single I like both sides equally: Super Trouper/The Piper

Re: Which B-sides were as good as the A-side of single?

DancingQueen - 13.07.2007, 17:50

Thank You For The Music! Or was Eagle the B-side on that one? Sorry but I am really not into the old singles. I own some of them, but I really don't know much about it.

However, Angeleyes would have been a good A-side too. Should I Laugh Or Cry deserves better, and I think Kisses Of Fire would have been a good choice too.
