Under Attack or You Owe Me One
Which side do you prefer of this single?
I have to admit I prefer "Under Attack", although I do go through spells of loving You Owe Me One (I'm that sort of ABBA fan, I can't truly say I hate any of them)
Reason for asking??? Travelling to Wales a couple of weeks ago I played one of my ABBA cd's with "you owe me one" on, and my other-half said "what's this s**t?" :( Wonder what he'd say if he heard "King Kong Song" or "Watch out"? :?

I must say Under Attack is by far the better song in my opinion. Hope you enjoyed your time in Wales.

Difficult to anwser as both songs are really good i love the digital sound of Fridas voice on you owe me one,Under attack has a nice sentimental value as it was the last track Abba released so i may have to go with the latter i enjoy them both thou!

Under Attack, of course. :P You Owe Me One is ok, a bit of frothy fun but it has 'b' side written all over it!

Hi everybody!!
I like Under attack much more than You owe me one. I would have to say, and please do not get cross with me, but in my opinion (just my opinion ok) You owe me was one of their weaker recordings. Sorry      However that does not mean that I do not like, it is just not one of my favourites.

Picking a favorite
"Under Attack" to me is a weak recording....by that I mean, it does not sound to me like some of the ealrier works (obviously), but I do like parts of the arrangment and the vocals.
"You Owe me One" to me sounds more typical ABBA-ish...but I agree, it is also a little weak in that the chorus is repeated many many times and there is just not much to the song. But, the chorus IS catchy, and sticks in my head every time I listen to it! Baby you owe me one....I pick it!

I like them both, almost equally. Many fans don´t like the stuff of their last single, but I enjoy the two songs.
"You Owe Me One" (wich is a shared lead vocal in my opinion) sounds happy and the catchy melody makes me dance around. :boogie: In the moment I prefer it a tiny bit more.
"Under Attack" sounds nice, too. I like it, and it was a strange feeling to me in 1982/3 that it didn´t reached the top ten in Germany. :(

There can be no doubt I prefer Under Attack! :boogie:
You Owe Me Own is nice, but UA is one of the best songs on The Visitors remasterd: it's the ultimate combination of ABBA and the music from the eighties. It's between my all time ABBA favourites, and since I first heard it, I've been liking it a lot. It reminds me of a wonderful preformance they gave at the end of their career as well.

I always felt You Owe Me One lacked some production; it sounds as if it is not finished or as if Bjorn and Benny were really over and done with the song. But over the years I have learned to enjoy this cute tune more and more and I like it much better than Under Attack.
The treatment on Agnetha's vocals make her voice sound so cold and distant which makes me not like the song at all. The melody is quite nice so had it been produced differently I would have liked it better I guess.

LOL Sooo true! I always expect it to appear in "Undeleted" (almost the same to me is with "I Am The City" btw...). In my opinion not good enough even for a B-side. One of the most horrible ABBA songs to me. If anything symbolizes the end of ABBA to me then the release of this song. Never understood B&B releasing such - well let me call it "low quality". Sorry, my personal opinion only!

Though "Under Attack isn't really a favourite of mine I still wait for this "magic" moment, but I'm very much afraid of it too! :D

Well I'll have to go with Under Attack. I remember hearing this in the record shop on the day the album came out and thinking - "Well at least the next single will be an uptempo one, but I was still a bit disapointed in it.
Still, it certainly grew on me and at least the video has that wonderful bit where the girls walk towards the camera and then turn away. Love Frida's hair!!
But back to the song. It did grow on me and I do like it a lot now, not so much for quality, just for the 'fun' of the melody. It does I think tell a more interesting and dramatic story than YOMOne. It is also the ONLY good scene in Mamma Mia!
As for You Owe Me One, I loved this when I got the single, but I did feel that it was certainly a B side and a very 'basic' song. It's almost something the boys could have written in their sleep - it's so simple in sound to their better stuff. I do still like the song now, but I have to go for Under Attack, as it IS a better produced song.
Though YOMOne is much more 'fun'. I've just put it on now and It does make me smile! I do think it is a great shame that it is not on The Visitors remaster. I love Cassandra, but YOMOne should be there too!!!!
I always think of this as a 'Frida' song, she seems more up front in the mix, though I guess both girls are singing for most of the song.

Under attack, YOMO is b-side material

I prefer YOMO. Probably because I never owned the tune until it came out on cd, so I' haven't had near as many years to play it to death as UA!

You Owe Me One, because it is a crazy little tune and fun to listen to, although I haven't listen to it that often.
Under Attack is a completed song, unlike YOMO, but I always feel sad when I hear it. Probably because of the video, seeing them diappear in that fog from the scene... :( And I am not fond of that synth sound as well.

Yes, I know YOMO is completed, but as many fans feel, it is as if something lacks there, don't know what. Someone said above it seems as if Bennybjorn were over and done with it, not wanting to bother with it any longer.

I dislike both songs, especially "under attack" which should never have been selected as a single a side...
It is one of Abba 's few boring songs to me,so predictable, too much synths,no bridge,so so mix.....etc...
You owe me one is quite bad too...but it is funny!
It would have been better to have "the day before you came"/"Cassandra" as a final brilliant release in 1982....but this only my opinion of course!

This is a fairly easy choice for me because I've never been fond of YOMO. I have a similar critique as has already been mentioned. Not polished sort of a "half-hearted" effort by ABBA standards, so on and so forth.
A similar criticism could be applied to Under Attack. But in the case of UA I quite like the song for two reasons:
The main reason would be the awesome ABBA hooks in this arrangement. I really enjoy the quick transition from chorus back to verse. Benny and Bjorn were masters of the musical hook and UA has some cool examples. Beyond that it's a fairly unimaginative song. Not the polished imaginative production that we were used to hearing from ABBA, but I enjoy the song anyhow.
The second reason is utterly subjective and falls into my admiration of Agnetha the performer. I love how she performs this song on the Late Late Breakfast Show in 1982 (The one that's featured on the ABBA Number Ones DVD). The expressions on her face as she performs the song are quite enjoyable for me personally. I enjoy that performance of the song so much that when I listen to UA on CD I always visualize Agnetha performing it, and it makes the song just that much more enjoyable for me to listen to. I enjoy the song more now than when released back in the day because of the video clip. :P

I think I prefer You Owe Me One, which in my opinion is NOT a Frida leadvocal song, but sung together. It sounds oriental, I really like it. It's different. I also like the lyrics. For me it's about the end of ABBA.
Under Attack should have been sung by Frida, not Agnetha. One of the very few times where I feel they made a mistake with the leadvocals.

Her dark voice, like she had in the verses for Money, Money, Money for example, would suit Under Attack very well. It would give the song a bit more mystery. The opening for Under Attack sounds very mysterious to me, it suits Frida's voice. Agnetha has more of a complaining/yearning voice to me... Which is suitable for all those broken hearted songs which I also adore, but not Under Attack.

You Owe Me One? Never heard of it. It seems I've got some more "ABBA research" to conduct. I've always liked Under Attack, though.

I prefer Under Attack to You Owe me One but neither songs really shine for me. I have often wondered why these two tracks were selected at the time over Just Like That and I Am The City which I personally prefer.

I was surprised by that too. Evidently Carl doesn't have the CSR box set or the TYFTM box set.

Under Attack is my #1 ABBA song overall!
The topic - being stalked - awesome!
The baseline - many ABBA songs I find the baselines are melodies in themselves - more complex than the average pop group.
The chords - especially in the second half of the chorus - very unique style.
The video - I guess I've been influenced by the sadness of their walking away like some of you.
The DREAM SEQUENCE - oh yes!
Looking on youtube however, it seems there are several arrangements for the Mamma Mia version of this song, and quite frankly, 2 of the 3 i've found are awful. Especially the baseline (poor wonderful baseline). The Madrid performance was the best, and thankfully was the version used here in Melbourne as far as I remember :D
You Owe Me One
I like it a fair bit. It sounds good. But it is a bit silly. I have a lot of respect however, for B&B for making that chorus sound good - I've tried to make a midi of this song and it's hard as hell!

UNDER ATTACK is a nice and catchy song. I like it. YOU OWE ME ONE has never been a favourite. BB didn't like it very much either and I understand why; every time I listen to it I've got the feeling there's something missing in it.
