Your partner + ABBA
Does your husband/wife/boyfried/girlfriend like ABBA, too?

kitty-cat - 04.11.2006, 15:33

Absolutely definately 100% not  quite the opposite actually, he cant stand them. Mind you he has said Frida's version of Life on mars is very good.

[I don't have a partner :( lol]
But my parents and brother love them :D
drimnagh - 04.11.2006, 15:47

I'm single right now but when I was in a relationship he surprised me by being a massive fan, which I didn't know at first. Even tho he missed them first time round. Was particularly mad for Mamma Mia. I think younger people are often turned on to ABBA because their parents were fans.
Gines - 04.11.2006, 16:29

Hi Toni,

Yes my husband likes them very much. Although not like me who is bordering on obsession    But yes he evn haves Abba Gold that he plays sometimes in his car.

Hi Toni

Gniblett - 04.11.2006, 18:04

Yes, he is a convert and even plays ABBA in his car now! ... in fact we watched the Arrival DVD last night and he was impressed :D
johnny59 - 04.11.2006, 18:45

She is not interested, more or less.

Since I have this forum, she thinks I've gone mad. She thinks I have a problem with computer addiction.

I think it's hard to explain. And hard to understand.

Any suggestions or experiences?
Lammer - 04.11.2006, 18:53

My husband can take them or leave them, regarding ABBA.
My kids like ABBA, though, since they hear it so much in the car and see me on this website.

No suggestions, Johnny-- except maybe more mods to give you a little more time off... and buy your wife lots of flowers!
abbascots - 04.11.2006, 18:55

johnny since your forum started i have been up late looking thru topics ect even more than Abbasite( you feel more at ease hear !) So my partner now has accused me off having an obssesion with Abba and the sites,You would think after 10yrs he would have noticed this Obsession by now  Regards johnsteven :D
Gniblett - 04.11.2006, 19:00

I can think of far worse things to occupy ones time than sitting at a computer at home, where your partner can join you if they wish to share your interest!

A nice meal out is always a bonus
abbascots - 04.11.2006, 19:43

Hello Gniblett yes you are right i have tryed many times  But he might try and get me to try his hobbies golf :-| No thanks

We are an ABBA family. My husband and my son like ABBA, my daughter loves ABBA like I do. We often sit together and watch the ABBA dvds, we talk about what we have seen and we all listen to ABBA music.

:D

Greetings!

Johnny I am in the same boat, my wife really hates the amount of time I spend on this site (she has apoint sometimes) but I enjoy it so I'll carry on. If you get any tips let me know!!!!!
aggie-fan - 04.11.2006, 21:49

um well, my boyfriend kinda likes abba, but he only likes agnetha's lead songs, such as "gimme gimme gimme, lay all your love on me, the winner takes it all" well i guess i kind of showed him who abba was... lol. not many people know who abba is, that are my age (in canada)... i didn't even know abba until like 4 years ago. oh and my boyfriend likes agnetha's solo carrer also, her swedish stuff and her english stuff. ( he lives in denmark in the summer, canada in the winter) so he understands swedish.

oh and my ex from 2 years ago, hated abba with a passion. i guess i couldn't blame him for he liked bands like Marilyn mansion. and other bands that only scream and yeah.. cant sing haha.

Angeleyes - 04.11.2006, 21:53

I'm a fan since 1974 and my husband knew that from the beginning.
He and my children likes a few Abba-songs, but they're not a fan at all. :(

Since I went to the Mamma Mia premiere in Stockholm last year, my "ABBA-fever" became stronger and now I want to talk all day about ABBA...
My husband AND my children don't like that, sometimes they think I become mad...

Luckily I've found a friend with whom I can talk about our fab group. 8)
Fire&Ice - 04.11.2006, 22:51

This is a lengthy story! (well, you know I like to talk anyway! )

I rediscovered my old Waterloo vinyl album in 1995 and decided to play Waterloo in Swedish to hubby as he had lived in Sodertelje for 2 years. He was quite surprised not because of Waterloo in Swedish but because of ABBA. After 7 years of dating and 5 years of marriage, he found out I was a crazy ABBA fan! He did admit though, that the voices are fab, but still he didn't quite understand..

Later on, we moved to Germany and in a short time, I bought all there was from ABBA on cd. So once I played As good as new and he was quite surprised with the intro: "I didn't know ABBA play classical music!" he said.

At one point he heard Andante Andante and was again quite surprised to find out it was ABBA. He even had the song recorded on the tape in the 80s, not even KNOWING it was ABBA. Well, shame on him!

Finally, let me mention that this year on our summer holidays, we played only ABBA, as he forgot to bring along his cds but I conveniently did not forget to bring my ABBA! We all enjoyed it and yes, I could say he likes ABBA to a limit.
kristinafan - 05.11.2006, 14:40

My boyfriend likes ABBA, but he is not a fan.
That I loved ABBA and always talked about it freely was one reason why he started to like me (he thought I was quite courageous) so now he has to live with it
No, honestly, even if he is not crazy about ABBA as I am he has always been very supportive. We take turns and sometimes play "my" music and sometimes "his" music, so we are both satisfied. And we have headphones, too :)
imstillalive - 05.11.2006, 19:13

My other likes ABBA - he thinks they wrote "cracking songs" and were "excellent musicians and singers". Sadly he isn't obsessed like I am. When we visit relatives in Wales, we each take 3 CD's each and alternatate between artists. He's very understanding when I buy yet another ABBA CD, or some other item of ABBA memorabilia. He's fab!

My parents like ABBA, too.

I'm very lucky. :)

I replied earlier, but I was amused the other day when hubby "discovered" my "secret life" here on this site. Now, I've been on this site/former abbasite forum for the better part of a year, and the computer is in the kitchen!

:)
aggie-fan - 13.01.2007, 09:12

hey, well i replyed earlyer on. and well, i moved on to a different guy. haha. well this guy is a little older then my last boyfriend.. only a year apart from me lol.
anyways. i was talking to him about Boney M, and i was like, do you like them. and he was like.. "i dont even know who they are.." i was like "what?? okay, you must know who abba is.. right?" and he was like "well yeah, but i would never listen to them unless i was forced.." haha so yeah.. he doesn't really like abba a whole lot. i was trying to explain to him about agnetha, and yeah.. i gave up.. oh well.. BUT he does think agnetha is really hot. lol, so im fine with that.

oh well, im moving into the "ultra gay dance music" so its okay if he doesn't like abba.. i dont listen to them much anymore. mostly just agnetha. so no biggy.

kitty-cat - 13.01.2007, 13:34

Since I last posted, I've caught my husband loking at my abba calender, and commenting,'blimey she was sexy wasnt she' meaning Agnetha. He says he cant stand them, but i do think he says it to wind me up too. He does like llife on mars, as i comented earlier, but he admitted if he had to listen to them (forced to in other o=words) Djupa andetag isnt too bad. Unfortunately if abba come on the telly he will walk out of the room, and like Johnny and John, he doesnt like me coming on here so muh.

tyllurius - 13.01.2007, 13:58

Actually, Abba brought my boyfriend and me together!
...well, not exactly, but they did play their part. It was the time when we just found each other "rather nice" and one night found ourselves on the street singing "Move On" and "Cassandra" in unison. So it was like "Oh, he likes Abba too, that's a plus!" ;)
All in all I would say I'm more of a fan than him, having more "fan knowledge" and collecting some items, while he just likes the music. On the other hand - he's a big railway fan and now has researched the train type that can be seen in the "Day Be4 U Came" video (X1 SL, if you should be interested, too...). And he keeps on uttering "Storstockholms Lokaltrafik" all day long :P

hello old fans!

well, in fact i dont have a boyfriend , no partner, no husband, no kids, etc!
but i have dog called "crayon", he does like abba music!.. when i play abba , crayon sits on the floor , next to me and we listen to, i guess he likes it cos he would leave alone in the room! but not , he stays permantely till it ends!, plus, another thing! i watch aba videoc "abba in concert " "definitive collection" "super trouper"..he runs to the sofa and sits there and we look at the videos!.. so me and "crayon" enjoy abba

i have few friends who really like abba on msn , so i guess , they do like it!
my sister Kelly and my mother Doris likes as well!..3 people in my family like abba, you see few !.. the rest of my family hate abba, and my friends!

lifrid
greetings!
see you then

I can't complain about it. my boyfriend likes Abba, not as much as i do but fairly enough to tolerate me
in fact it hepls me a lot 'cause my future mother-in-law
loves Abba too
so this was a reason for me to start our friendship
i give her as a present several videos
she was so delighted :love4:
the only thing he can't stand (but he doesn't say a word) is me singing Abba  outloud too many times a day. i love him so much anyway.

My boyfriend says he likes ABBA, he can watch DVDs with me and such, but I know he wouldn´t listen to their songs himself. However, he must think I´m nuts  because of how keen I can get (and how much money I spend on ABBA items too 8) ).

My wife tolerates ABBA, and she even has two or three ABBA CDs in her car - along with Johnny Cash. She supports my addiction because she thinks it keeps me out of trouble, and she's quite certain that I'll never meet Agnetha. I haven't told her yet about the trip to Sweden for the opening of the museum.

My son hates ABBA now because my new car has satellite radio, and he wants to listen to other artists instead of my Swedish CDs. He likes '70s music; occasionally they play ABBA, and he doesn't force me to change the station. Gee, I never knew there were so many different groups in the '70s - where was I?? 8)

I prefer to be honest with my spouse. It's helped me stay married for 21 years.

Besides, I've never been successful in hiding anything from my wife, she ALWAYS finds out anyway so it's easier on me to have an M.O. (Modus Operandi) of, as the lawyers say, "full disclosure".

My husband is not a fan nor did he listen to ABBA before he met me, but he is tolerant and able to listen to my favourite music, as I am tolerant with his favourites. If it wasn't for him, I didn't like most Finnish bands at all. I have learned to appreciate Finnish bands since I met him.

He is proud of my collection and my passion for ABBA. He has been to Stockholm with me to see the Swedish stage version of Chess (he had never been to Stockholm before so first of all it was a holiday together, with a chance to see Chess), and he is acompanying me to see ABBA The Show in just a couple of weeks (although he fears he will be on business trip that week & weekend).

As a child & teenager, my parents were really supportive with my hobby, and still are.

I am happy :D

My husband likes ABBA to an extent. He is mostly interested in their music, but not at all in them as individuals (I'm not sure he knows who is Frida and who is Agnetha).
When we first met (online), I mentioned I loved ABBA and he said "I love them too" but I realize now it was just a ploy to hit on me because he is essentially a fan of Pink Floyd and The Who ;) When we did meet in real life, he brought an ABBA cassette (hum, I wonder what happened to it, now that I think about it) to listen in his car.
But, hey, at least he doesn't hate them. And he doesn't think I'm crazy for going on an ABBA message board because he probably goes on more forums (non-ABBA related) than I do.

Not really
Sadly  I am the lone "ABBAFREAK" in my household.

I do, however, have some special friends that are just as crazy about ABBA as I am, and that is fine with me! There may not be room in this house for another fan like me anyway!
