Complete Studio Recordings
I don't have The Complete Studio Recordings box set, but I'll probably be getting it soon. In the abbasite forum, I read comments that gave me the impression that the sound quality may be less than satisfactory. But according to the abbamail site, the original masters were used, so I would think the sound quality must be fine. I would appreciate comments from people who have this box set. I hope the second verse of The Name Of The Game isn't missing.

I havent played anything but the rareties album on mine, and i have had it now for months,

they do sound like they are singing through a ''old tube'' on the waterloo alternative mix, I have to admit.

best wishes
Jack

Then Quality of the songs is great, they use the proper mixes of every song (so no edited The Name Of The Game etc.) and the noise reduction is not a big as on previous remasters.
You can argue about the track-lists of the cds but if you only go for quality I would definitely buy it.

Hi there Zeebee,

I bought my copy when it was released here in Australia (which is usually several weeks after some other countries :x )
I was happy with mine but I do think that the best sound I have heard for some of the songs were on the Thank You For the Music box set. The stand out songs for me that I don't think have been matched were Ring Ring, Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Knowing Me Knowing You and Does Your Mother Know. I don't know what it is but those songs to me sound crisper and clearer.
But I do think the Complete Studio Recordings were worth their money.

Cheers! Berg.

The sound quality is just fine. Maybe i am a little deaf but i couldn't tell the difference between all the various remasters. They all sound great.

As for the Waterloo Alternate Mix Jack, I think I read on Carl Magnus Palm's website that they couldn't find the original master so they had to use a vinyl copy and tried to clean it up a bit. Thats why it doesn't sound as clear as the other tracks.

Overall, the box is great value for money. I got mine for only £69.99 from play.com

I liked the Japanese Box set much more, had mini versions of the gatefold sleeves as done by UK Epic, lovely!

Hi Supertrouper

yes I got mine from Play.com too, and I would say to anyone wanting abba stuff to shop there first, they are so much cheaper! then all the other sites

My set is still sealed. I also have the Japenese Edition, I only wish the Japenese would put out a collectors set of minuture Cd singles Of ABBA as some of there sleeves were something special

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Universal in Japan?

Hi

I think the sound quality is just fine, but on the other hand my hearing might not be of the best :D

I just recently bought an extra box as it was on sale here at a real bargin price that one is still sealed :)

The box itself I find a real cool item, and even has room for the ltd. edition of Greatest hits to fit in there !!! the velvet box is real nice, and the sleeves too I love they have that 'mini-lp' look.

Cheers

I will buy the Danish box set released on 9/11/06 - the sound quality is said to be excellent !

I agree with one of the earlier posts. The artwork in the japanese box set is much, much better. The cover prints are much clearer and more colourful. Also, all inner-sleeves are included. So the sleeves in the japanese box really look like mini-LP's. Compared to that the artwork of the CSR box is rather poor. I was expecting top quality in such a lavish, expensive box.
Furthermore, I don't see the point of putting songs that were bonus tracks on the 2001 remasters of the original albums on a separate 'rarities' CD now. The CSR box was an opportunity to put all the songs in the right place. I think they should have skipped the 'rarities' CD, add those songs to the original albums, and instead include the "Gracias por la musica" album as a proper album in the box (with the 5 further spanish songs as bonus tracks).
elad - 29.10.2006, 17:24

Hadas , I agree with you about that "Gracias Por La Musica"
album - i think it should be issue as a seperate album on that box set.
it is a bit unlogical to have tracks recorded in 1980 in an album recorded back in 1976. (La Reina Del Baile) for example.

Thanks for your replies. I just got The Complete Studio Recordings box set and, from what I've listened to so far, the sound quality is fine.

I just got the Danish Box set. I've taken some pics if anyone is interested. It does not come with the DVD or the lyric booklet. Also the CD covers are smaller than the ones in the Blue Box Set.
