Played too much RO, don't know if it's still around. Still have a free accound for RYL because i was moderator and GM there but i'm not up to date on that. Oh and ROSE Online but that was just a RO remake.
Don't know neocron, and lineage is all about pretty graphics without game depth I hear.
Something free and new would be nice.
I played a bit of silkroad online, even have two toons there. but low level pvp isn't hot there as all good stuff comes with levels and there isn't much twinking to do there.
I'm interested to see how tabula rasa turns out. (german page http://eu.playtr.com/de/gallery click on your prefered language at the top) It is definately inspired by AO.. just look at the screens - looks like ao.
World of Quin is a free game until level 10 i think.

It's german too and a bit like silkraod i guess... I haven't found a enlgish page for it. The skill system of it looks intruiging, but it's a cookiecutter mmo with levels => skills, equip too i think.
I haven't tried it.
Prison Tale might be nice too.. the colors of it scared me away from trying it so far. =p
Well that's pretty much it that i know off that offer fre trials

Anyone know about guild wars? i hear it has very balanced pvp but i never played it.

im downloading WoW lol.
but, Ao will probably be up before its done so no biggie.
tabula looks cool but kinda low budget... dont see anything about release date either.
lineage i was thinking of the original, i dig the oldskool isometric graphics... but less than an hour to go think i will just post on some forums :)
infantry can be fun sometimes though, although the community sucks.

You should giveEve Online a try. It's along the veins of AO in terms of sci-fi, though with a slightly harder science slant (none of the new AO fantasy elements - spaceships in all their goodness).
It has a very interesting skill system, using real time instead of experience grinding to increase your abilities. As there are no levels, your primary goal becomes that of earning money (ISK). How you do this is entirely up to you (there is extremely little hand-holding in this game, to succeed, you need inititative and ingenuity. It's not WoW.) You can set up a production or mining empire, providing goods to players (the economy is entirely player driven - all items for sale are produced by players), trade, run missions for the game's many factions (against NPC pirates), or perhaps the most interesting of all: turn to piracy. The most lucrative systems are pvp free-for-all and ripe pickings abound for pirates on the prowl.
The game also sports one of the most extensive organizational architectures, with corporations and alliances playing a *very* important role in how the game develops (with constellations and systems conquerable by player corporations).
There is such an immense amount of opportunities for addiction in this game that I advise anyone who like the sound of this to at least give it a go. There is a completely free 14-day trial, which is worth downloading and giving a spin.
