    Late at Night by Stina

Two o'clock in the morning. The red numbers on the digital clock changed every minute, not going faster, not going slower, no matter if Dildo watched them or not.

He could not sleep. No special reason, he just could not sleep tonight. It had been a hard day in the studio, working on the new single of the band he produced now, two interviews and some office work. Nothing extraordinary.

He turned over. Maybe it was better lying on the left side.

    Half an hour later.

    No. Nothing.

Dildo glanced at the clock again. Don't think about that you can't fall asleep, it only makes things worse. Think about something else.

His new car. He would get it in two weeks. Two weeks means fourteen days. Fourteen days were how many hours? No, this was boring.

Counting sheeps. Maybe he should try to count sheeps.

What time is it now in San Francisco. He smiled. Now he had something to distract him from thinking about his sleeplessness. Hmmm...

He got up and took his agenda from his desk, cuddled up in bed again. Time zones... Ah, here. Hey, around 8:30 in the morning. Yesterday. Funny thought. It was still yesterday in San Francisco. He would never understand this....

He reached for the telephone. It had been quite a while since he had spoken to Darren. They both had been so busy...

He dialled his number, waited. Waited.

The smile of anticipation he had on his lips died. No one at home. Maybe he was in the studio, too...

He was surprised how disappointed he was. It would have been nice to talk to Darren. He had the feeling that now that they rarely heard of each other anymore, that their friendship had cooled down a bit.

The last tour had been exhausting, and maybe after all these years it was good to take a break.

But he had to admit that he missed him.

Dildo rolled his eyes. Why didn't he try out Darren's mobile phone. And if he was busy, maybe they could arrange another time to call.

    Next number.

    Ringing tone. Once. Twice. Please...

    "Yeah?"

    "Darren?"

    "Yeah, what?"

    "It's me, Dildo..."

"Dildo? What..." A deep sigh. "Do you have any idea what time it is?"

Dildo was puzzled. "No.. I mean, yes, of course, here it is 02:30 in the night..."

    Another deep sigh. "Same here."

    "Where are you?"

    "Sydney... I'm in Sydney..."

"Oh my God, Darren, I'm sorry, I thought you were in San Francisco... What are you doing in... No, I can call you later if you want, okay? I'm so sorry I woke you up. Good night."

"No, no.. You did not know." He laughed sleepily. "My fault. I wanted to call you and tell you I was coming over to Australia, but somehow... You know, the work..."

Dildo felt a sudden stitch of disappointment. Work or no work, he would have expected....

"Yes, of course. I have so much work, too..."

"Dildo, so why are you calling me up in the middle of the night? Did something happen?"

    Suddenly Dildo felt very stupid.

"No... I just... You know, I could not sleep and thought, over there where you are, or where I thought you are, it is morning and maybe we could talk a bit... But, really, I can call later..."

Darren laughed. "No, I'm awake now. Good idea. We did not talk much the last time."

"Yeah, that's what I thought, too."

    "So, how's your project going?"

"Oh, fine, just fine. And your solo record?"

"Oh, fine, too. I flew to Sydney on Monday to do some remixes. Will fly back to San Francisco next week."

Dildo felt a bit cold sitting on the bed and lay down, cuddled up underneath the covers. "Darren..."

    "Yes, Dan?"

"Do you... I mean... For me it still feels strange to work without you."

    Silence.

"Yeah, for me, too, Dan. I... Sometimes I miss you."

Dildo smiled. "I miss you, too."

He turned down the light, enjoying just lying there in the dark and listening to Darren's voice.

"I was so used to having you around, to ask you when decisions are to be made.. It's a bit scary to decide everything alone..."

Darren grinned. "I even miss your cigarette smoke. No one smokes over there."

Dildo laughed. "I even miss you hugging me all the time, when coming to the studio or leaving in the evening. No one hugs me here."

Darren let out a theatrical sound of sorrow. "Aaargh, poor Danny... No one hugs him..."

    He paused.

"You really liked that? I was never sure about that. I mean... You are not so... So... I mean, you don't hug everyone and everywhere and sometimes I thought it felt uncomfortable for you."

Dildo raised his eyebrows in the dark. "You never asked! But no, it was okay."

He smiled. "Although... I mean, I know you just do this, it's.. You are like this, but my mother once said..."

Darren laughed. "What did she say?"

"Oh no, forget it, this is stupid."

    "Tell me..."

Dildo blushed. "Nothing... Okay, she once said that she thought... Well, she thought you are..."

He smiled. "That you are in love with me."

    Silence.

He heard Darren breathing close to the phone.

"Darren? I'm sorry. I never wanted to tell you. It was silly. Forget it, okay?"

Then he heard Darren's voice. Very... cautious.

    "And... What did you think?"

    "Me?"

"Yeah... You... Did you also think I was... in love with you?" :)

It was a strange situation. Lying there in the dark. Suddenly talking about things they never talked about before.

    Dildo swallowed.

"No... Well, maybe... Yeah, once... I don't know, one evening... You... The way you looked at me..."

    Silence.

Dildo snuggled deeper into the warm bed. He felt cosy and comfortable. With lying here, and, strangely enough, also with the conversation.

    "Were you...?"

He did not push Darren to answer. He just lay there and waited.

    A deep sigh.

    "Yeah, a bit, I think..." :D

Dildo could hear Darren breathe so close to his ear as if he was lying beside him.

    "Danny?"

    "Yeah?"

    "Shocked?"

    "Mmm... No..."

    "Really?"

    "No... You... Never told me..."

"Oh, no... I mean... I could feel that... That you don't love me. So I thought it was better... Not to let you know..."

    Silence.

Dildo pulled the cover of the bed over his head. Even the bedroom was now too much space around him, as if the air and the room would listen. He wanted to be alone with the phone, with Darren. :P

    "Dazza?"

    "Yes..?"

Dildo heard a slight hint of fear in Darren's voice. Because he knew what Dildo would ask now.

"Are you... Are you... still.. in love with me?" :P

Sometimes seconds seem to last minutes, but Darren did not speak for such a long time that Dildo would have feared he had hung up the phone, if he had not heard him breathing.

He even heard Darren open his lips now, trying to find words.

    A soft whisper.

    "Yes..."

"I... thought it would fade away if we don't see each other. And I thought it worked... Until you called...."

    A deep sigh.

"I should not have told you, I'm sorry."

    Silence.

    "Danny?"

    "Yes..."

    "Please... Say something..."

    "I... I don't know..."

"I should not have told you, I did not want to make you feel uncomfortable, I am sorry..."

    "Special."

    "What?"

"I don't know how to say it... I feel... special... and... honoured that you... are in love with me..."

    "Honestly?"

"Yes... I don't feel uncomfortable, I just wish you would have told me... earlier..."

And it was the truth. It was a nice, warm feeling deep down in his stomach to know... Darren loved him...

But they were both leading their own lives now.

    Far away from each other.

    Too late.

"Danny, if I told you earlier... Do you think..."

    "I don't know, Daz..."

    Silence.

"It's too late, Danny... My fault..."

    "Darren..."

"Maybe it is better if we... don't see each other until I fly back to San Francisco..."

    "Okay..."

"Danny... It's better if I... hang up now, okay?"

    A strange, faint sound.

    "Darren... Are you... crying?"

    "No, Danny. Good night, okay?"

    "Good night, Daz."

It was now too warm under the bed cover, and he needed fresh air, but Dildo just wanted to stay there. His eyes were wide open and he wiped away something wet and noticed that he was crying. Crying, too.

Crying for a love he lost that he never had.

    * * *

    3:30 in the night.

Darren had lay there staring in the dark, hugging the pillow tight. Why had he done this. Why had he told Dildo. He had ruined everything.

    "Beep. Beep."

His mobile phone. The green light was flashing and it was ringing.

Slowly he reached out his hand.

    "Darren?"

    "Danny... I..."

"Darren, there's a flight from Brisbane to Sydney at 6:00 a.m. Arrives at 7:30 a.m."

    "Danny..."

"I want to see you, Darren. I want to talk to you. If you want me to come."

Silence. Then a sob, and a voice, full of desperation and need.

    "Oh Danny, yes, please, come..."

"Okay..." Dildo tried to keep his voice calm, but the excitement and joy was clearly audible. "Where are you..."

Darren pressed his hand to his mouth. He was sitting in the bed now. No, this can't be true.

"I'll wait for you at the airport. I... I'll get dressed now and then I'll drive to the airport."

Dildo giggled like a child. "Daz, it is in the middle of the night, you have four hours until I arrive..."

"I don't care, then I will wait four hours. Or six. Or eight. I'll just sit there and wait for you. You will really come, Dildo? You won't change your mind, won't you?"

    "No, I won't, I promise..."

"But what if the plane is booked up and you won't get a seat..."

"It is not, Darren. I already booked."

    "Oh God, Danny..."

"Daz, I'll hang up now. I..."

    "Danny?"

    "Yes?"

"When you arrive... May I... May I hug you?"

"You don't have to ask, Dazza. Yes. Yes, please. And, Dazza..."

    "Yes?"

    "You said, it's too late."

    "I... I know..."

"I don't think it's too late. I would say it's too early. Please, give me time."

"I will, Danny. All the time in the world."

    * * *

The voices, the speakers, the humming, people hurrying to get their planes. Kids screaming, people rushing.

They did not see and hear them. Like on a small island in the middle of a sea of people they were standing there.

    Holding each other tight .

    Darren Hayes gay and proud

    Cameron Adams, music reporter
    October 06, 2006 12:00am

GAY singer Darren Hayes has spoken for the first time about his decision to come out.

Hayes, who "tied the knot" with partner Richard Cullen in June under Britain's law on same sex unions, said he was not concerned about any potential impact on his career.

"If I've lost any fans because I'm gay, that's OK," Hayes said yesterday.

"I wouldn't want somebody to buy my record who would judge me because of sexuality. To me that's the opposite of who I am as a person.

"But I've been overwhelmed at the positive reaction: there really hasn't been anything negative.

"It has restored my faith in humanity."

Hayes said he chose to come out once he was settled in his personal life: "I always knew when I settled down with 'the one' I'd have no problems talking about my private life.

"Yeah I'm married. I married a boy, I'm gay, but not much else about me has changed.

"I think I was just waiting for someone to just print it as a fact.
"It just so happened that around the time people stopped saying: 'Is he or isn't he?' and wrote: 'Why hasn't he come out yet?' was around the time I got married.

"I'm proud of the fact I never lied about my sexuality. I've never been ashamed of who I was."

He also spoke out in support of gay marriage: "In my case, if two people want to be monogamous and grow old together, I can't see how that's a bad thing

    Okay, da stimmt was nicht...
We went to his wedding and we were married and no one knew,” Hayes said.

Elton Johns Hochzeit war im Dezember 2005... Darren hat im Juni 2006 geheiratet!! :?: :?:

"...British pop star Elton John will marry his long-time partner David Furnish in a small, private ceremony on December 21, the day civil partnerships between gay couples become legal in Britain."

    vs.

On June 19th 2006 I married my boyfriend of two years, Richard, in a Civil Partnership ceremony in London...

    *edit*
    noch was...

"...he’s an artist, he’s my hero and someone I admire and greatly respect. What I love about him is he’s independent from me.”

Sehr süß... aber der letzte Teil. Was soll das bedeuten? Getrennte Bankkonten? lol

    DARREN HAYES

The gay Savage Garden frontman gets married to a man and takes his career solo.

    DARREN HAYES | 7.1.2007

For a brief period in the ’90s, I enjoyed worldwide success as a songwriter and lead singer of a pop band called Savage Garden. At the peak of my success, I was high-fiving members of ’NSYNC backstage at my after-show parties. I had Billboard number-one hits and sold out Radio City Music Hall. I also came to terms with the fact that I was gay. ’NSYNC had nothing to do with it (don’t worry girls, Justin is still yours). But, the peak of my career coincided with the realization that I’d been denying who I really was all my life. I thought my life was going to end—if not through my own depression, then surely through a media outing.

Fast-forward to my life today: I’m 35 years of age, my pop group split up almost 8 years ago, my record deal evaporated and I’m 25 million album sales richer. I live in England; I’m married to my boyfriend Richard, and my life has never been happier. This year, I’ll release my first record independently and play a sold-out concert at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall. Things are great.

Yet, it wasn’t always so. The period immediately after coming out to family and friends were what I refer to as “the lost years.” I battled depression. I estranged myself from my family. I moved halfway around the world. I did everything I could to prevent myself from becoming that which I thought society despised.

You see, I was born Australian—amid the drought-ridden summers and masculine culture of working-class heroes—into a family where my father was alcoholic and violent towards my mother. And though he eventually found sobriety and peace (he’s my hero now), it left an indelible scar. I was forever on guard. In the climate I grew up in, you had to be tough. To be gay was unthinkable. There wasn’t even a word for it.

My generation had only 2 gay role models. One of them played piano, wore a lot of wigs and funny glasses, and the other one was the first famous person to die of AIDS. Growing up, there wasn’t anyone I could relate to.

Today, we live in an era in which 17-year-old kids join MySpace and check a simple box that says “gay” to describe who they are. We have Will & Grace, Ellen DeGeneres and, perhaps, Scissor Sisters and Queer As Folk to thank for all that. But, I have to say, were I a young man coming to terms with my sexuality today, I’d find the current online lynch mob mentality of outing celebrities to be more than enough reason to stay hidden.

Go to any gossip website and you’ll see: Young, apparently gay artists, performers and actors are now declared gay and ostracized for not admitting it, sometimes before they’ve even decided it for themselves.

It worries me that, in these times of struggle for basic civil rights, such fear still exists in coming out. It took me years to accept who I was before I was willing to talk about it openly. I can’t imagine how awful that would have been had I also had the likes of tabloid cyber-gossip nipping at my heels!

Don’t get me wrong. I think that lying publicly about who you are is unacceptable. But, for the person who says, “I’d rather not talk about my private life”—can’t we see that this is someone who is choosing not to deceive us?

Right now, I’m so proud to be living in a country that has had the sense to respond to real social pressure and recognize civil partnerships. Here in Britain, I signed a simple piece of paper that extends to me the right of British citizenship and all of the civil liberties any other married person inherits upon saying “I do.” Richard, my partner, is my next of kin. He is my life. But, most importantly, marrying him validated us. When we stood together in a circle of our family and friends, I got to hold both his and my mother’s hands; I got to smile at my niece and nephew; and I got to witness the acceptance of my family and friends.

Perhaps through living my life with joy in my heart, I’ll have made it possible for some young kid in a country town in anywhere U.S.A. to say, “I can be happy, too.”

Darren Hayes’ new album, This Delicate Thing We’ve Made, hits stores on August 20 from Powdered Sugar Productions. For previews and downloads, check out darrenhayes.com.

Yeah, he did an awesome Jar Jar. I wonder if he's got some other hidden talents we don't know about?

Elton Johns Hochzeit war im Dezember 2005... Darren hat im Juni 2006 geheiratet!! :?: :?:

"...British pop star Elton John will marry his long-time partner David Furnish in a small, private ceremony on December 21, the day civil partnerships between gay couples become legal in Britain."

    vs.

On June 19th 2006 I married my boyfriend of two years, Richard, in a Civil Partnership ceremony in London...

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    Doctor Jay - 30.07.2007, 23:53

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    Doctor Jay - 31.07.2007, 22:35

Quote: Als Ehe (v. althochdeutsch: ewa = Ewigkeit, Recht, Gesetz, rechtsprachlich hist.

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    Doctor Jay - 31.07.2007, 23:22

Although I'm not 100% sure if that's correct...I mean, Darren would have already announced a second gig, wouldn't he?

Yeah I think so it could be mistake

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    JD - 05.08.2007, 17:15

Friends of mine in the UK have said from the very beginning that they think he´d do an extra show, as the RAH is free the next day.

And I am pretty sure the venue will be filmed for DVD or sth... ;-)

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    Doctor Jay - 05.08.2007, 17:40

What kind of tickets did you get for the RAH? Would be cool if you and your friends could sit close to Chris, Huda and me :)

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    JD - 05.08.2007, 17:51

    row 13, seats 2-4

No VIP :n23: I was overruled...

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

However, row 13 doesn't sound too bad :)

I guess so. But why announce it if it weren't true? I mean, they must've asked Darren, don't you think?

Oh well, time will tell!

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    Doctor Jay - 05.08.2007, 18:23

You should ask differently...why has Darren told them before he told "us" ?

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    JD - 05.08.2007, 18:36

The best seats my friend could get for us. First, we had seats in block W... but she is in the fanclub and was able to get those in the arena area. Thank God... erm I mean, Carole :-)

And I always thought it was a clear thing that Darren will do an extra show in London! It looked like it was just a matter of how fast the tickets would sell...

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    Doctor Jay - 05.08.2007, 23:45

Yeah, think about it. Darren, if he plays another RAH gig, has to tell "the audience" first to make sure he gets a sell out or at least to avoid a minus on his bank account ;-) I bet a RAH gig is damn expensive....
So at this point, I thinks it's a typo....But I'll be very happy if it's true!!

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    PatientX - 06.08.2007, 00:48

Yeah... I agree with you. It makes sense. It's only 2 months left (og God, it's only fucking TWO months left!!!). So I guess if he was to play another gig he'd have to start announcing it soon, which he hasn't! :)

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    JD - 06.08.2007, 15:12

Nobody knows definetely about a second show.... odd.

I don´t care actually... on Oct, 4th I am back in the plane to fly home... :-(

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    Doctor Jay - 06.08.2007, 21:47

Yeh, a second show wouldn't change anything for me. But I'd be very happy for those who couldn't get good tickets for the 3rd. Does anybody know if the gig is sold out?

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    JD - 07.08.2007, 14:36

The Royal Albert Hall still sells a few tickets in the circle area.

    Re: D-Articles (Magazines, Links, Interviews...)

    Doctor Jay - 07.08.2007, 17:12

^Thanks! Another reason against a second show I guess.... :?

shall we bring this place back to life as well?

lovely little article over here: http://www.looktothestars.org/news/2895-savage-garden-singer-grants-wish-to-cancer-sufferer

Former Savage Garden singer, Darren Hayes, granted a wish of a lifetime to an American woman in London.

Serena suffers from thyroid cancer, and thanks to the UK Make-A-Wish Foundation, she got to meet her musical idol at the Ritz in London.

“It was so inspiring meeting Serena and her family,“ said Hayes. "She has such a positive spark and her family’s sense of humor was infectious. It’s wonderful to be a small part of their celebration of life. Please donate and support this amazing charity.”

The pair chatted in private during the meeting, and Hayes presented Serena with a special gift. He had even read Serena’s blog before their meeting, so he was up to speed on all her interests and hobbies.

“It was an amazing experience,“ said Serena. “Darren is just an absolutely lovely person. I want to thank everyone involved in making this happen. I believe in miracles and a miracle has happened today.”
