    Nate James in Cernobbio
Nate James had a very warm welcome in Italy, I've read enthusiastic comments both from public and press.
Apparently he also enjoyed the SR concert afterwards, dancing, jumping and taking lots of pictures from near the stage! :D Shall we ask him to have a peep?

Nate wasn't alone having a good time, everyone loved the gig and I've only read excellent, even if short, reviews.

Cool! 8) Looking forward to see him in August! He seems to be a great new talent. I just think the music world needs some good new voices!

Hmmm, ... Jamiroquai?!? The songs that I heard so far sound a bit more like influenced by people like Maxwell, Stevie Wonder, and folks like that - soulful with a groove...

I get the hint Lin!! :D

Reviews are extremely positives. I'll translate the titles and a few bits.
Note: Italian sentences are usually a couple of miles long! I didn't have time to make a decent work, so you'll probably have to use some... intuition here and there...

"Simply Red more Italian then ever, tomorrow at Villa Erba di Como - 'Our latin concert' "

Asked what was the reason that had brought them to Villa Erba Mick answered: "First of all the desire of being on stage - performing live it's paramount to me and I'd tour Italy every summer if I could, then there is the new single "Oh What a Girl" which will probably go out in September".

"This time we have decided to go back to the origins - we are going to play much more funk, more blues, even more rock, just as we used to do at the beginning of our carrier, because that's the way I like it: to involve the audience from the first row to the last and get them dancing and taking part as every concert should do."

"What's our new album going to be like? Exactly as this tour: rock, funk and blues. We are busy in a recording studio here in Italy. I like living in your country. Te tell the truth I only feel half English, the rest now is a pure latin soul."

"Simply Red, soul music's red soul"

"Simply Red are coming back with their hits old and new".

"Simply Red make their fans go wild on Lario"

"Villa Visconti gives honor to Simply Red"

"It was an extremely hot night, but not because of these day's harsh weather. It was the even hotter Simply Red's pop-soul that "cooked up" the audience at Villa Erba. [...] Nate James, the young British soul revelation greeted Mick Hucknall's 3.000 fans. [...] His debut album has excellent songs like the single The Message that Nate performed successfully yesterday.
The crowd exploded in cheers when on stage popped the most famous red head in rock, who gave life to a long and exciting show started with Home Loan Blues, effectively supported by his band. [...]
The setlist span over 20 years, starting from Picture Book, the debut album in 1985 firing the big guns like Holding Back the Years and Come to My Aid. A crescendo of music blew the crowd away encouraged by the solar enthusiasm of Mick who has found in Italy a second stimulating home. Jericho, Something For You, Thrill Me, The Right Thing and the new single Oh what a Girl were the other quite intense moments of a concert that didn't slow down until a beautiful Fairground that sealed a night worth to be remembered among the best of Como's live seasons, already featuring Bob Dylan, whose song Positively 4th Street Hucknall sung as a cover.
For the last goodbye there were Money's Too Tight to Mention and a coral, emotional, If You Don't Know Me By Now".

    Love

    Via

Wow ! Thanks for telling us the good words......

It would be fantastic to see the band with an audience of only 3,000 people.

Most of the concerts here have 15,000 seats or even more at statiums and you really can't get personal with the performers when it's too large.

When I saw Prince the venue held 18,000, but I was lucky to have a seat in the 12th row, and the concert was "in the round" where he was on a stage built in the middle of the room.

When I looked at the photo on the SR website of Mick looking out to the crowd, I can't help to think those people way in the back can't possibly enjoy being way back there, how in the world can they see or hear without the large video screens (which I didn't see any)...maybe they were there, somewhere !

Also about the new song Oh What A Girl, do you think this song sounds like a Chicago (the band) song ? I tried to hear it on the Italian radio station, but I kept missing the time it was played.

Oh well, September will be here before we know it and we'll all be able to buy a copy of it !

    Thanks !

    Love,

    Hi Via!
Thanks a lot for translating this :top :hug Very nice to read!

    Hi Lin!
Yeah, I agree it's a very different thing if there are 18.000 people or just 3.000. Totally different atmosphere but both can be unforgettable experiences. However, I'd prefer to be at a small intimate concert. The smallest I have been to was about 6.000 or 8.000 people I think!?
B.t.w. the picture on simplyred.com was shot at a music festival in Belgium that's why there's such a huge crowd.

The new song... wasn't sure about it first when I heard the short clip. Thought: OK, nice... but ... nothing really special.
But I was lucky to catch it on that Italian radio station on Thursday and on Friday and now I think I'm gonna love that song! 8)
Sounds like? I can't say what it sounds like?! Uptempo, danceable and absolutely positive.

Yes Lin, I'd love to be on a small venue for a change, if I ever get rich I'll buy an apartment with view on Piazza Napoleone in Lucca... :D But I'll probably be on the front row anyway if SR were palying!

I woudln't say Oh What a Girl sounds like a Chicago song... but I'm only familiar with their most popular tracks.

About that Italian radio, you might have to wait a little to hear the song when you tune in. They usually play it two or three minutes later than they're supposed to.

    love

I've first heard it sung live, and I think that's probaly why I loved it straight away. Makes you feel like dancing and singing along, but I should speak for myself!
When the music was faiding off I had the impression that Mick's arms litterally droped at the tiepid reception the crowd gave it.

Oh well, not from me though!! :devil

ohh what a girl!! If I may say so myself! :D :whistle

I noticed. Oh yes I noticed. 'Cause you know what that means. :D I do wonder what they mean by "very soon", but I guess we'll find out.

Hoping they have private messaging enabled for everybody. Had a discussion with Elaine about it...

I just wonder which forum software they are using?! The old forum was a bit outdated I think. The Blood & Fire homepage has a phpBB-forum too. There are some great possibilities with a phpBB-forum when you host it on your own server I think.

"very soon" ... that's a term to be defined.
If soon is next week, very soon might be tomorrow... if soon is in a month, very soon might be next week... if soon is ... ... ... OK, I don't want to drive you crazy  ... but I think you have to bear in mind, that Simply Red's calculation of time is different... next year usually means in two years ... so "very soon" might just be the same as "soon" :doh :clown :-} :alien :whistle... I'll better shut up now

Not sure which software they're using, didn't ask. But this, what we have, seems pretty cool and flexible. We'll see...if Mick's using it for the Blood and Fire page, he'll probably use it for the Mindfield as well.

As for your analysis of how Simply Red calculates time...I fell on the floor laughing, and I know a few old-timers reading who will get a good roar as well. We know all too well the alternate passing of time in the Red-verse. :D :D :D :D :D

I would guestimate within a few days to a week though...it was actually supposed to be up and running the week after I got back, but maybe they hit a technical snag or something...
