I think you're referring to picture No. 8??? I'm not sure but I think they are Stefan and Irene Blaukat from Germany (mentioned in the article). I think I've seen them before?!?!? However not sure when and where.

Picture 7 is Chris Chapman for sure! Now she's famous ;) 8) Nice pic btw.

Anyway you're "new" quote is such a powerful image... I've read the translation you left somewere else... Mick is really a poet! And a cunny one too

    Warwick - were you there
    Hi,

Thanks for the links to the pix. I have to agree it's strange that they didn't include one of the band! I was there, a great night but as I haven't been to any of the other gigs this tour I can only comment on the Warwick event. Also I'd like to say that just becuase we only go to local gigs I'm no less a fan, we don't travel much due to personal reasons. I know there have been numerous comments and complaints on sr.com on the seating/standing and dancing argument. I hope I don't cause an all out war by what I have to say here but I'd like to make a few comments.

I have to agree and disagree with some of the comments made. I agree that SR are a band that you want to get up and dance to from the very second they arrive on stage and that Mick prefers the audience to boogie the night away. I also like to get up and dance from the moment they arrive on stage. However, there are people who prefer to sit and listen to the music, just because they are sitting down doesn't mean they are not enjoying what they are hearing. I find that when I listen to a new track I prefer to sit and listen quietly and absorb the new sounds - just my way of 'taking in' what I'm hearing for the first time. There are also those people that, regardless of whether it's an indoor or outdoor venue, have the attitude 'I've paid for a seat, so I intend to sit on it all night and expect those around me to sit down too'. As they say, you can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

However, I have to disagree with the comments that the standing/dancing area should be at the front, personally and from a logical point of view I feel it should be at the sides or the back so that those who have paid for seats and wish to sit down and enjoy the entertainment can do so without their view being blocked. It will be interesting to see if sr.com pick up on this point at some time!

In my opinion the Summer Nights series of outdoor concerts are not quite the same as a normal 'tour' of the indoor arenas and possibly attract a wider variety of people. Arenas tend to attract more of the 'get up and dance' type of audience/fan and being an enclosed space the sound generated from band and audience appears louder, whereas the outdoor summer concerts are possibly more attractive to those who prefer a leisurely summer night consisting of a picnic followed by sitting and listening to good music and the sound generated here will disperse into the atmosphere so this could be the reason the audience sounded 'quiet'.

16th July at Warwick had been a very hot strength sapping day - which had also co-incided with the one day of the year when those winged ants decide to leave the nest and find a new home - and this was followed by a hot night which also, just as the concert was about to begin seemed to be a target for a plague of aphids (greenfly) which suddenly decscended without warning, like the proverbial plague of locusts and they hung around for the entire set by Calaisa. Very strangely during the interval I realised that the plague of aphids had now disappeared as quickly as they arrived, not sure if they were still having insect problems at the front of the areana.

We had been to Warwick on the Saturday evening the last time SR were there, a cooler night in August and we'd been on the front row (personal circumstances have changed since then) and had stood from the time the band arrived on stage, although we were aware then that the audience further back were seated for quite some time. The weather and insect problem could also have had some effect on the audience reaction this time around.

Hubby and me were in Block 7 on Saturday, could have been closer to the front but have been warned not to get to close to the speaker system as it might not be good for hubby's health. When the band and Mick arrived on stage there were cheers, whistles, screams and applause from the audience (at least I know there was from me and the two ladies beside me who had arrived later than expected so hadn't had time to eat their picnic before the concert but enjoyed their 2 bottles of champagne and assorted food during the evening) and we and the people in the front of our block stood as usual. As one, we then realised that those in the front blocks were still seated, not sure about those to the sides of us or those behind us as I didn't look, so we all sat down again. There were a couple of women towards the front right hand side of our block that continued to stand, not sure if they had any complaints as I was concentrating on the stage/screens and what Mick and the band were doing. I was aware that security had a word with a guy to the left hand side of our block who was standing, think he was escorted out later but again, too intent on the stage than the audience to take much notice.

I would have preferred to stand but was being thoughtful to the people behind me as I didn't want to block their view - I'm 5ft 8in in 'flats'. I might have been sitting but it doesn't mean that I was sitting still, I was moving to the music as I sat and giving the guys as much vocal support and applause as I could at the end of each number. Eventually, the need to dance got the better of me and I said to hubby 'sod this I'm getting up!' and as I did so, almost the whole of the block rose to their feet at the same time. At one stage one of the ladies next to me was insisting on standing on her seat until her friend persuaded her otherwise. I'm still not sure about those in front, I couldn't see, hubby's 6ft 2in and said they were still seated in the front blocks. However, I was able to see the blocks on both sides of us and they were still seated! I'm not quite sure at what point they decided to stand, if they ever did.

It was a little surprising that at the end of the gig the audience left quickly and quietly, again perhaps due to the heat. We were hot watching, I hate to think how Mick and the band were feeling as they performed but I'd like to say a very big thank you to them all of a wonderful evening and I look forward to seeing them back in the Midlands soon.

I hope this doesn't cause any arguments, just wanted to say how I feel.

    Hi Redlollipop,
thanks for sharing your thoughts about the concert and I see your point.

I have to say that I had never been to an open air concert before, and was totally unaware of the differences. I was prepared to stay put for a few songs, I only stood up the first time at the end of "Oh what a girl" to cheer the new song I had been waiting for and tell Mick I really liked it.
A few of us have been "bugging" a little bit for it!!
Anyway the Crouching Steward wasn't happy and I sat down again quite mortified.

At the end of "Come to my aid" I couldn't be seated anymore, there were already paches of anarchists up and booging but if my enjoyment has spoilt the fun of somene who had reasons not to joing in the dancing I'm sorry.

Luckely the people behind me were very nice. And nice was the security guard in front of us, a young lad at his first experience there who was a wiz at catching insects with only two fingers!! :D

I don't think I'll go to another concert at Warwick Castle, if I can resist the temptation... !

I'd like to ask you one thing: somebody shouted something at Mick and he reply "I will do so, how very posh!". I didn't get what the bloke said, did you?

    ciao and peace

    Warwick - were you there
    Hi vialattea

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure who the guy was that Mick replied to, or what it was that he said. I orginally thought Mick was commenting in reply to a woman seated behind us who had spoken up in support of the guy the stewards were taking to. She'd said. 'Stay where you are!' Then I heard Mick say 'I will do so.' sorry but I didn't hear him say 'how posh' although hubby did. Neither of us know who Mick was replying to or exactly what was said. I'm just as puzzled as you, so perhaps if there is anyone else reading this who was at the front perhaps they could answer this for us.

If you were up and dancing before most of us you certainly didn't cause a problem with our (me and hubby) view of the stage, so don't worry about it.

I do hope that you would consider attending another SR appearance at Warwick, should they appear there again in the future.

I believe Michi is right about picture #8. I remember meeting them back in London last November at the RAH shows! Very nice couple and huge SR fans! They seem to be at every show!!!

Pictures at Warwick Castle & the Sit down or Stand Issue
vialattea wrote: Gina From Da Block wrote: Nice photos, Via! Thanks for sharing 8)

Yes it's weird that they don't have any but the ones they have of the fans are great. Nice to see everyone enjoying themselves! Chris looks good in her picture!!! Love the shirt!

As for the do I sit or stand issue at a concert…it's tough because you want to stand up, dance & get into the music but then you also want to sit back, relax & enjoy the music. I usually stand up and dance at a concert but I do feel bad about standing up wondering if anyone in back of me can see. I tend to jump up & down and I'm sure I've pissed off a few people in the past but I continue to dance because the music moves me!

However, I know how the sit down people feel because I'm short and sometimes I cannot see the entire stage because of tall people standing up in front of me. It’s hard to take pictures without their arms and heads in the way and you feel like your missing out on the whole experience by not seeing everything. So sometimes I wouldn’t mind if the audience would just sit down & enjoy the concert without getting too crazy. In the states you’ll never get people to sit at a concert. No matter what type of concert you see except for maybe classical shows everyone wants stand!
