Secrets of the sound engineer
Hello
I'd like to know what were the Secrets of the sound engineer ?
You may have noticed that the ABBA sound was better than the other famous artists of the 70's ...

I'm not sure, I think he used to record their voices normally, and then he would re-record the girls' voices at a slower and a faster speed and then play the tracks together, or something. And I heard he did the same with some of the instruments.
C'est tout ce que je sais! I hope someone who knows more will comment here.

Just finished reading ABBA Let The Music Speak Chris Partick confirmed that this was done both on the voices and the instruments, but only to make them very slightly higher, but the difference in the speed is very small, and the speeded up track would not be prominant in the mix.
I was surprised to read that he experiented with different microphones as well in the early days, until he found a make & model that suited their purposes.
By the way I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in how the songs were structured etc. Gill

Stu, it's worth it, I am now intending to read it very slowly as I listen to the tracks he is writing about to see if I can hear the many things he mentions that have competely passed me by for 3 decades. Gill
