I was listening to some benign music in the car today and started thinking about SUBJECTS/TOPICS OF SONGS.
Generally song topics are about romantic love, be it lost, found, painful or blissful. These songs do have thier uses for us consumers, depending on where we are in our life when the song is released. They can be healing, make us reflect (sometimes not a good thing), they can be painful. Most importantly, the old ones can send us back in time to who we were, or what we were doing when they were released, invoking some marvellous memories. :-D
It was quirky back in the good old bad old days to write songs that had nothing to do with love. eg Joe Dolce, Shuddupa Your Face. Songs about that very tortured relationship of Father and Son. Eagle Rock, Crocodile Rock. And lets not forget the political songs which seem to have faded into the past. :wink: :D
However, it seems these quirky songs are no longer in favour by the music industry. :cry: Although I must say, I find them a bit of light relief from the heavy romantic love songs. :-D
What can you remember of song subjects, which don't involve romantic love?
And what subject would you like to see in a song?
What song of old, invoke wonderful memories for you? For me, it would have to be Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack. It reminds me of that very tortured teenage years, when the hormones were starting and boys were coming on the scene and my insecurites started. :lol: :lol:

The song "Shout" by Tears For Fears brings back my angst-ridden 7th grade year when I started junior high school. That song helped me get out my anger in a constructive manner.

I WAS GOING THROUGH A DIVORCE, MY MOTHER HAD JUST PASSED AND MY FATHER WAS DYING.
THERE WAS SOMETHING SO SOOTHING ABOUT THE WHOLE COMPOSITION OF THAT SONG AND IT STILL GIVES ME CHILLS TO HEAR IT PLAYED.
PLAYING IT OVER AND OVER FOR THE COMFORT , IT HELPED ME GET THROUGH THOSE VERY TRYING TIMES.
