Hello,
I’m new to this group but am certain it will be of a great interest to share our knoledge. With a few friends, its a number of years now we are involved in WW II lost aircraft in our area, north west Brittany France. We gathered until now parts from more that 100 different aircraft.
This would be a first part to identify, a part we found on three different crash sites. All are or supposed to be Spifires. This particular one, the most complete, comes from a fighter crashed north of Guipavas airfield on June 24 1943. It is supposed to be Sgt Kostanski’s Spitfire Vb EP360. Yes, I know this pilot is still known as MIA, but a french official archive seems to prove, without giving any name, that it is this Spitfire. Moreover that a nearby farmer said he thought the pilot was polish…

This belongs to the undercarriage spring assistors for the early hand pump u/c and the springs fit I the undercarriage bay connected to frame 5 and the horn on the leg. The compensators are very strong and special tools are required to keep them compressed while removing them.
